///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
MINUTES of BUPAC meeting January 15, 2007

44 members and guests attended.
The meeting was opened by Chairman Charles Dauray.

Program Chairman Jim Boesch introduced the speaker, Jeff Kottkamp, Florida Lt. Governor.
Kottkamp said 18.5 million people live here but 85 million people visit Florida every year.
He said Florida Power & Light plans to open the first solar power plant in Florida.

Kottkamp said a private company, Space Exploration Technologies Corp (SpaceX), is building a facility in Florida and their cost to launch a rocket is $75 million which is only one tenth of the $750 million that NASA spends.

He said all levels of government right now ought to be looking for ways to save money and reduce spending because that's what the people are experiencing.

Kottkamp said when he sat on the House Agriculture Committee he was not always impressed with how the state takes care of land and it is ridiculous for the federal and state government to buy property and then say you can't go on it.

He said the recapture rule for property valuation was not removed in 2007 because  state lawyers were convinced it requires legislative action.

Kottkamp said the first check received for the new Indian gambling agreement was $50 million.
