Founded in 2007, the Big Shoulders Fund Auxiliary Board is a group of active and altruistic young professionals dedicated to advancing the causes championed by the Big Shoulders Fund. To become an official member of the Auxiliary Board, simply make a minimum $50 annual donation to Big Shoulders. There are also several ways for Auxiliary Board members to get further involved. The Auxiliary Board has three committees--Fundraising, Schools, and Outreach--where members plan fundraisers, volunteer at Big Shoulders schools, and work within the community to promote the Auxiliary Board and recruit new members.
The Big Shoulders Fund is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner-city Chicago. Big Shoulders serves 25,000 students in 93 inner-city schools--80% of students are ethnic minorities, 32% are not Catholic, and 58% live at or below the poverty line. Since 1986, Big Shoulders has raised over $155 million to fund scholarships, operating grants, facility improvements, and special education programs. The impact of these investments is remarkable; in areas where academic achievement is low, 97% of students attending Big Shoulders schools graduate from high school and 87% go on to attend college. Additionally, Big Shoulders is an efficient organization: 100% of all contributions go directly to the children and schools.
To officially join the Auxiliary Board, please send your annual membership donation to the Big Shoulders Fund, at 309 W. Washington, Suite 550, Chicago, IL 60606.
