Hi,

I uploaded some file that work nice with bpq1632.exe
Here i use New Packet Generation at the moment.

These programs ar made for use with dos bpq but work great with bpq32 in win xp
and win server 2003.

more files can be found at:

www.packet-radio.nl/users/packet (my http server)

For some dos progs you need the tp7p5fix.exe so you dont get a runtime error.

Subject: RMS Packet, Linux RMS Gateway, BPQ32 - WL2K gateway updates needed

WL2K Users, Sysops. All,

The Winlink Development Team's recent call for software updates has been well received by HF sysops. All RMS Pactor and RMS WINMOR HF gates have finally upgraded to RMS Trimode. These are now officially obsolete programs. We locked them in the attic. But there are some sysops using old, dysfunctional versions of BPQ32, Linux RMS Gateway, and RMS Packet. (188 as of this morning.)

We need your help to notify these sysops. Please look for your favorite gateways in the "Need Upgrade" list at www.winlink.org/RMSVersions and drop the sysop a request that he update. You can find the sysop's email address by mousing over the callsign in the frequency list at www.winlink.org/RMSChannels (if they appear there).

Many of the older software versions can no longer make CMS connections or will throw errors because we did away with keycodes last Spring. Some of these may still be reporting to the website, however they will be impaired if a user tries to make a connection through them. They may not properly report themselves on frequency lists or maps. Left much longer without becoming current, these stations will eventually fall over the edge of the earth and disappear completely, as we continue needed CMS improvements. We hope these sysops will perk up and stay aboard!

We appreciate your help, and hope you understand that a small volunteer team needs to "crowdsource" as much help as it can. Thanks!

Lor,

BPQ 5.2.9.1 is the latest production version, version 6.0.0 is a
development version so nearly all of the listed BPQ32 stations are up to
date already.

Thanks Andre, I'm aware of that, and I assume other BPQ users and sysops know
that too. John has been good to keep up with our improvements. It would help
more than hurt for sysops to move to 6.0.0. The ones using 5.2.5.1, and those
older ones not reporting to the web site (you can't see them, but local users
know them on-air) are the critical ones to reach.

Don't assume those you see in the report are all there are!

Just to confirm the postion regarding WL2K compatibility

The Version 6.0.0.x series is an experimental Linux port of BPQ32, and is being tested by a couple of stations

The latest released version of BPQ32 is 5.2.9.1, and ideally everyone should update to that version.

Versions prior to 5.2.6.1 do not have the latest WL2K reporting code, so if you have any connectivity to WL2K and are running these, you need to update.

5.2.7.1 added the option to update the WL2K SYSOP record, so you should run at least this version.

I guess I am confused how/why/ would, does one update to a developmental version not ready for general release.

That would be worse than running an older version.. If one ran a version without all the bugs checked and fixed.. ???????

I think I am happy at 5.2.9.1 until John releases the next version be it 5.x.x.x. or 6.x.x.x.

I believe BPQ32 6.0.0.x is a beta version -- sysops running version 5.2.9 are current until version 6 is officially released.

Suspect some of the resistance to update past 5.2.5.1 is the new MDI interface.
I'm in that camp sort of.... Not real crazy about the new node interface.
Personal preference..I guess. Admittedly I haven't tried the latest version, but
I found 5.2.5.1 ran fine during stress testing and never saw a need to upgrade
off it.

I just run the newer BPQBBS modules on top of 5.2.5.1 and keep the software
admin headaches minimal. I have no need for the web, aprs, telnet, or Winlink
features in the newer versions so I get that luxury ;-)

I think there are several folks using a v4 BPQ32 version and very happy with it
for their needs.

Just making note that not everyone runs the "latest" are very happy with current
setups/versions. Obviously folks that want to do Winlink or need the other
features would be best served by upgrading.

Once it is done I'll take a look at the Linux version. Sounds interesting, but I
just don't have time for "beta" testing ;-)

Hi John and group,

Not really on topic but I can not go past the wealth of knowledge.

This may very well interest others.

I have been busy trying to get my Dumb MoDems ( Baycom type ) to run
with Linux, I have now done this, ( not an easy task I must say ) and as
I only have the one serial port ( DB9 ) I need to look at USB to Serial
converters ( so to speak ).

I have seen the odd posts about ones that work as they should and others
that do not, my question is, does anyone know or has experience of such
items that appear to be available at quite cheap prices.

The only thing is that some specify what pin outs are available and as I
require the following, CTS (Rxd), DTR (Txd) and RTS (PTT) it is hard to
find which ones support these pins to drive the MoDem.

I am using "Ubuntu 10.04 LTS" and the "baycom_ser_hdx mode" driver for
TTyS0.

You might try the Keyspan HS19.  I believe it is supported in Linux, MAC, and Windoze.  I know it properly implements all the control signals as I use DTR and RTS here for different purposes, for rig control and PTT.

Peter,

I'm almost certain you can't use usb-serial adapters with baycom-like boards. Even if the control signals are supported the interrupt response time is way too slow, and the software normally expects to see a real async controller chip.

Hi John, All,

Thanks for the info, the MoDems are not cards in the computer but external MoDems of home
brew design using TCM3105 chips etc.

It is running very well on the serial port at the moment so maybe I need to look at some PCI / Serial cards instead.

Hopefully most of you know this but don't open links. My apologies to the group
for my apparent previous post that contains a link. I have a workstation that
got infected by a e-mail worm and I unplugged it from the net a month or so to
work on it later (current AV is not finding it) and my eager teenage boys
plugged it back on the home network unknowingly and the worm did it's deed last
night of sending itself to everyone in my e-mail history.

Again ignore the link. By the way I have moved and am getting the ham shack up
and going. Have CW/SSB up but will be another month before the digital is up
and look forward to getting the BPQ32 nodes/BBS up again.

Attention Sysops....if you could delete it here on the group that would be
great. Thank you.

Gentleman,

In mid-December there was a short thread about using the Raspberry PI as a BPQ server. I am now the proud owner of a PI and have it up and running. I am trying to understand how to download and install programs to the PI. I suspect other victims of Windows are having the same problem understanding the PI system. I would appreciate the following help:

1) What is the link to download the BPQ software for the Strawberry PI?

2) What is the proper way to download the software?

3) Once I have it downloaded, what is the proper procedure/method to install the software?

Keeping in mind I have just turned on the Strawberry PI. I have looked at FAQ, forums, etc., but they speak a different language.

My goal is to use the Strawberry PI with BPQ connected to a KISS TNC for radio control and telnet, AXIP for remote connection. I wish to use a serial USB comm port (I hope the PI supports such a thing) so that I do not have to deal with Windows crashes at remote node sites. I am also involved in integration of HSMM-MESH network with BPQ as the node server. Working well so far. I will appreciate any feedback and help.

BPQ for the PI isn't available yet. I hope to have a beta test version in the next few days. I'm not sure how it will be installed yet, but probably by using wget to download from either my web site or the yahoo group.

It will support KISS via the onboard serial port or a USB interface, AX/IP and Telnet. A TNC that plugs onto the PI header has been developed and should be in production soon.

Thank you, John,

Once again you are right there. I will wait to here for the release.

I just found some articles on the on-board serial port, thanks for the heads-up. The particular application I have uses a KPC4 with dual radio ports so the TNX adaptation I have seen probably would not work. In any event. I will look forward to the forthcoming release.

I think the problem is with the operating systems. I am running the 64bit version of windows XP Pro K and reading the documents says VCommConfig will not run with 64 bits. Is there a way to correct this problem. I lost the computer that had the 32bit version and I did not have the windows disk to reload.

BPQVirtualCOM.sys is only for 32 bt versions of windows.

BPQVirtualSerial.SYS works on 32 and 64 bit systems, but can't be used for rig contol via the SCS PTC radio port.

The next release of BPQ32 will not need a Virtual COM driver for rig control via the SCS radio port.

Jim,

There isn't really a simple setup guide, but there is quite a bit of documentation, which you can get online at www.g8bpq.org.uk or vial Start Menu/BPQ32/BPQ32 Documents.

If you send me your bpq32.cfg I'll check it out.
