Well I don't see any one else asking the question so I will start the ball

Yesterday I got email from [Winlink_Programs_Group] Gateway Stations Software
Updates Needed
Seems as though Winlink beleives BPQ should be at version 6.0.0

Program Version
RMS Packet 2.1.7.0
RMS Pactor 2.2.7.0
RMS Winmor 1.1.1.1
RMS Trimode 1.1.7.0
RMS Relay 2.2.7.0
RMS Gateway 2.2.0
BPQ32 6.0.0

Do you have a release date yet?

Please can anyone assist me with step-by-step instructions how to create a PMS
within my BPQ32 Node?
I'm currently running my Node with a single radio port, and a stand-alone

Needless to say, my power bill is getting out-of-control, and I need to move the

I have no technical or computer knowledge. I've confronted this task

excellent helpful replies, but all too detailed and in-depth technical to
understand.

Please could anyone actually tell me simple step-by-step instructions how to set
up a PMS within my BPQ32 Node? I just need it spelled out to me as if you were
talking to a child who's never done this before, and needs every point
explained.

This must be the best place in the world to find help. I just need to hook up
with someone very patient. Please help.

Many thanks

Dave,

BPQ32 Version 6 is the base for an experimental port to linux, Unfortuately the way the wl2k system gets its version info doesn't differentiate between live and experimental software. As far as WL2K functions are concerned version 5.2.9.x is current.

Maybe I'll have to renumber the current release to 6.0.1.x to keep their system tidy.

Hi Matt,

A few of us are running tests versions of BPQ that are 6.0.0 and its possible John did not remove the WL2K reporting of version number from the test copies. Rest assured....I think the new version is coming out very soon as we talked about it yesterday.

I was just referring to the idea that the methodology is imperfect and may be miss reporting version numbers for one reason or another.. And that was in deed the case..

Happy New Year!!!

Plus I was dying to send an email from my Klu tablet… lol

Not intending to offend anyone.. Just have seen before where version numbers have been wrong.. My opinion of wrong data was not meant as anything but the fact that bad data in gives bad data out.. And it has happened before…. And even at that.. good data in may still be bad data out if the database ever gest corrupted…

I'm trying to run 2 bpq bbs's on one machine using virtual machine for
the second system.
Using the same basic setup for both, I cannot get the Telnet port to
initialize on the virtual machine. I did change the port numbers to
prevent clashes. The 2 config's are virtually identical except for port
numbers and callsigns.
One system is MARS the second is HAM. I'm wondering if the virtual
system is missing a driver for Telnet.

There is a an XP driver,  Look for BPQHDLCXP.zip in the files section of this group.

It should be considered experimental, as I'm not aware of anyone using it. It might work on 32 bit Win 7, but won't on 64 bit operating systems.

In 98 you don't have to installed it in the system like you do in XP. Just use the driver. In XP it actually needs to be installed in device manager like a video or sound card, etc.

I run BPQMailChat off the node for a PMS and retrieve my mail from another BBS by polling, that I connect to. The sysop of that bbs set me up as a BBS for my mail and bulletins I request. If you don't have it running already for another purpose, that would be in my opinion, the easiest way to go.

Sent problem to both John and to Rick KN6KB both with no response in either
case. Its after the ID that it hangs and winmor catches it after 15 seconds and
shuts down PTT. Same exact setup with RMS Express doesn't do it.

Dedicated soundcard and dedicated port that works with M110 all Ham Radio
Deluxe, XP system. Direct serial card to motherboard.

Also is there any command in bpq32 to over-ride the busy channel ? I happen to
have a carrier right in the center of the passband of the channel where this
stuff sits. Have to turn off RF gain to get it to work. Squelch doesn't seem
to do much in the 1.4.5.0 Winmor.

Dedicated soundcard and dedicated port that works with M110 all Ham Radio Deluxe, XP system. Direct serial card to motherboard.

Also is there any command in bpq32 to over-ride the busy channel ? I happen to have a carrier right in the center of the passband of the channel where this stuff sits. Have to turn off RF gain to get it to work. Squelch doesn't seem to do much in the 1.4.5.0 Winmor.

I have heard it does under WIN7….  WIN8 seems to be a different animal.. In WIN7 Anything I added it would find drivers… Win8 does not seem to be that smart,,, in fact a lot of what I ran here would not run under 8 so I have an XP machine running as well..

Just so u know I run BPQ under Win Server 2008 SR2 (XP kernel).  But wanted to add what I have seen on my Win8 System…

I do know it will install on win8.. I just have nothing connected to my WIN8 PC…

Always worth a try and if you have time worth a try at gaining info so it can be made to do so.. if it does not already..

I don't have a Win2000 system to try it on, but the driver models for Win2K and WIn XP are pretty similar so it is worth trying.

I do not see any winmor TAIL on my system… It sends the ID at the end and disconnects within a few seconds..

I also am not seeing any deterioration of my ports like I saw a couple weeks ago.. At that time I had not rebooted or changed a thing in months and the previous 10 days my heard list was unchanged no one heard for 9+ days.. A reboot fixed that.. Maybe running for months without a restart was my issue.. Not sure what to think of the winmor tail.. I will keep watching mine for a couple more days. 73

Happy New Year

Jay…  I will watch my system this afternoon and see if I see this happening.. I have been fighting issues where I lose  the ability to hear on any of my 18 Ports ie Packet pactor winmor RPR.. and only a reboot fixes it.. Not had time to investigate planned on watching for it again with debug running… today and tomorrow.. I will watch my Winmor ports as well I use mine for both BBS Forwarding and RMS messaging…

I will give you an update…

Happy New Year..

Jim

I am running it in Win7 and Vista.  I tested it on Win8 just to be sure the installer worked and it did and BPQ32 did run.

The issue which confuses is the separation of program files from application data as is recommended by Microsoft.

After doing an install you can check to see if your install is the 'old style' or 'new style'.  Go to the lower left on the screen and click on start\all programs\bpq32.  From the drop down list find 'view configuration folder' and 'view program folder'.  If you click on each in sequence you can determine the location of each of these groups.

In an MS approved installation the programs will be at c:\program files\bpq32 or on a 64 bit OS at c:\program files (x86)\bpq32.  The application data should be at a more complex address perhaps c:\users\'username'\appdata\roaming\bpq32.  Actually this later location is OS dependent, but will not be in the format shown for program files.

If your install is not MS standardized, then you may be subject to annoying UAC warning pop ups.  All this can be avoided by achieving an approved install.

You can guarantee an approved install on a system which has an older style install by doing as follows:

Run the installer with all the defaults.
Uninstall using the uninstall line in the program drop down list, or go to the control panel and do an install from the list.  In XP it's called 'Add or Remove Programs', in W7 it's called 'Programs and Features'.  Why?  Who Knows!!!!
Now run the installer a second time taking all defaults
You will now have an approved install which places things where they should be.
The uninstall will retain all your configuration and in fact more it where it should be.

This new installer was written to accomodate Vista and W7, but actually works all the way back to W95!

Once this is all done, you might have trouble finding your configuration, if you are used to just using Windows Explorer to find BPQ32.cfg in the program folder...it's no longer there!  Instead do as I noted above, 'start\all programs\bpq32' and click to get the drop down list which will give you easy access to everything you may need.

Most 'ham' programs are stuck in the past, BPQ32 is one of the few that has updated to the MS approved install rules.
