I had hoped someone with more knowledge of FBB would have replied to you, and perhaps they will.  However the configurations in  c:\Program Files\BPQ32\Examples\Medium can't be too far from what you are looking for.  The application happens to be a DX Cluster, but you could just change the applications parameter to:
APPLICATION=BBS
and you would be almost there.  You need to change the calls/aliases/IDMSG/BTEXT and such things which obviously need be changed to be applicable to you.  Of course your TNC must be set in KISS mode.

Now as to configuring FBB, hopefully someone else here will step up....

Ron, N5IN
so
but at the beginning
i hope your pk232 has not the same probleme of me the problem is
your eprom must be after 1999 because before the kiss is not good and don't works
so you start your pk232 you type ***  and you look about date of eprom
after you search the last version of bpq in this forum ans install it
and if you install the last version of fbb name is fbbwin32
i'm sure you will be leke me very happy
but because guy here are very pleasant and help a lot
sorry for my english i'm french canadian

have fun

Roger

I took a quick look at the DXSpider Installation Manual v.150 March 2003 rev 0.7, and also the version of the same at the DXSpider wiki.  With regard to AGWPE they seem to be identical.  It appears that from the DXSpider side it's a mater of editing the file AGWConect.pm appropriately and it appears to be clearly explained...in that file:

set $enable to 1
set $login and $passwd to the values set up in your AGW installation.  If you haven't set any there, then you should not touch these values.
You can connect to a remove AGW engine (ie on some other machine) by changing $addr and $port appropriately
Restart the cluster.pl program.

I would guess you have $addr set as 127.0.0.1 and $port as 8000?

I would like a copy of your AGWConnect.pm file please.

From the AGWtoBPQ side the typical settings would be:

TCP Port 8000
Listening Sessions 20
Appl Mask 0x1
Loop TXed Raw Frames - not checked
Loop TXed Mon Frames - not checked.

Of course the ApplMask would depending upon what you have in your APPLICATIONS= param string in bpqcfg.txt.

So I would also like a copy of your bpqcfg.txt file.

Looking back in the archives I think you did initally have some difficulty getting the interface working...was there something here that could trip up a person, if so perhaps I need to address that.

Ron, N5IN

With all the big effort in the USA about interconnecting
with Winlink can BPQ be set up to work directly into
Winlink, perhaps looking as a Telpac station. Would be
nice to have a node and the interface all in one package.

Ron,
Take a look at BPQTNC2 and VCOMConfig in the BPQ32 package.
I've been running this interface for a few years now to
create a BPQ link into one or more Winlink packet windows.

I run Telpac here linked to BPQ using AGWtoBPQ. This works fine. I will
be testing the beta release of RMS shortly.

Duane, when you say you 'create a BPQ link into one or more Winlink
packet windows', what application are you using to do that ?

I have been running G8BPQ with Telpac for over a year now and about
a month ago I moved to RMS with the same setup. Both have been
extremely stable over the long term. I use it for station to station
L3 and L4 connections. AXIP links are also easy to setup.

Hi Mark,
John includes two utilities for this. BPQTNC2 creates the TNC2
emulator link to a real or virtual com port. VCOMConfig loops
back these ports to BPQ ports. Just make sure you select
virtual com ports not already used by real com ports. Once this
is set up, start a Winlink packet port (I run 4-5) and configure
it for one of the virtual ports.

I used to run the old version of BPQTNC2 under Win95/Win98 for
many years but XP would not support DOS apps under the OS. John
was kind enough to build a new set of utilities to support this
function under XP. So... we can keep all the great features of
BPQ and pass packet traffic back and forth across pactor II/III
links.

I also run BPQEther to pass traffic to the other BBS in the shack,
SNOS... which links into the local packet backbones.

Do you know if that was the last version.
I found it on the web but I am not sure. I had a blast running that stuff it was very flexible.
I ran it with 9600 baud modems and KPC2 and KPC4 on the serial port in the DE.
I believe we had eight of them scattered from Houston to Pensacola, FL at one time.

I may just need to do kiss ports between RMS packet and BPQ32 seems a shame!

Hi Jim,

I have a 409 Data Engine image, but It will never have been run. I lost track of my Data Engine around 1995!

What are you trying to do with RMS?

John thank you for your reply it has been a while since have communicated...

RMS has no kiss interface it only supports timewave or kantronics tnc's the second interface is agw.
They read the agw.ini file and determine a port list. It also will support an agw interface on a distant computer over a telnet link (I imagine) and login with a name and password. That may be the way to allow bpq32 to init with it.

I am planning to use the dataengine on another linking project related to RMS.
I had 8 de-bpq nodes from Texas to Florida and when we removed them a few had runtimes of 4+ years!! Impressive!

Rick and Vic (rms programmers) do not have the time to write another interface (for bpq32). I have not been able to get bpq32 to communicate with the rms application through agw. Using bpw germinal it tells me there are no host streams availible or AGWPE streams,  I assumed the only way to get things to communicate would be a couple of kiss ports and a null modem serial cable.

I think if tnc2bpq spoke kiss that might work?

Back to the DEbpq 409 image I would like to give it a go if you want to send it to me.
No rush however I am working iin New York and will not be home for a couple of weeks.

Jim,

AGWtoBPQ works fine on the same machine as RMS Packet. You need to start
AGWtoBPQ first.
Then start RMS.
Make sure that the TCP port in the AGWtoBPQ config is the same as you
are using in RMS. In
RMS, select 'Use AGW Packet Engine on Remote Computer' and set the 'IP
Address to Packet Engine'
as 'localhost'.
Also, make sure the application mask in AGWtoBPQ is set to the same
application number you
have RMS setup for in the bpqcfg.txt file.

If you still cannot get it to run, send me a copy of your bpqcfg.txt file.

1) Does AGWtoBPQ have to be started before RMS?  Ideally it could be started at any time and RMS would periodically try to connect.
2)  If, after AGWtoBPQ and RMS have been happly cooperating, you cancel AGWtoBPQ, does RMS report this?
3) And following up on the above, if you restart AGWtoBPQ does RMS periodically retry and successfully reconnect to AGWtoBPQ?

Since you are using AGWtoBPQ in a fashion which RMS intended to apply to a remote AGWtoBPQ, it would almost have to behave gracefully as a link between such machines cannot be guaranteed to never fault.

A well behaved application, which loses it's AGWtoBPQ connection should retry periodically, perhaps once per minute to reconnect.  So clearly RMS is not doing so as you have waited 20 minutes.  This is obviously not the proper procedure, as in this case we are using AGWtoBPQ as if it were on a remote machine...such links cannot be 100% relied upon...there must be an effort to periodically retry.  The alternative is apparently to cancel and restart RMS just to restore the AGWtoBPQ connection.

But it's good to see that the basic things are working...the improvements to RMS are always possible later.....RMS users will have to ask for them I would say.

Jim <james@...> wrote:

Yes if not RMS will complain!

2)  If, after AGWtoBPQ and RMS have been happly cooperating, you cancel AGWtoBPQ, does RMS report this?

Yes it replies AGWPE released

*** AGWPE Beacon port 2 @ 17:03

3) And following up on the above, if you restart AGWtoBPQ does RMS periodically retry and successfully reconnect to AGWtoBPQ?

It seems no, I need to let this run for a while to be sure but its been 20 minutes.
But I seldom see bpq crash!

Since you are using AGWtoBPQ in a fashion which RMS intended to apply to a remote AGWtoBPQ, it would almost have to behave gracefully as a link between such machines cannot be guaranteed to never fault.

Ron,

I was wrong in my last message. RMS does periodically check for AGW
operation. It will reconnect by itself if AGWtoBPQ is stopped and restarted.

Subject: Updated bpqded and bpq1632 files

I've updated the WA8DED host mode drivers again. These are used to run
programs that use DED host mode (eg Wfbb16, Wfbb32, TSTHWIN) with
BPQ32. The fixes address issues found when running with Win98, and
problems encountered running FBB maintenance.

I've also updated the documentation for BPQ1632, which enables programs
written for DOS BPQ 16 to use BPQ32. The only changes are to links
which were no longer correct.

A new release of BPQ32 is available today in the files section:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BPQ32/files/BPQ32_410d_2008Mar03/

As well as from this easier alternate location:

ftp://dxspots.com/BPQ32_releases/BPQ32_410d_Installation.htm
ftp://dxspots.com/bpq32_releases/bpq32_410d_2008Mar03.exe

I would recommend that current users update their installation by
running the installer 'on top of' their existing installation.
