Got it Ken,

I found it in the RMS Packet Setup. I had 24/7 and changed it to 00-23. Will check on the winlink page to see if it is working..

Hi Ken

Can you send me a copy of your APRS Digi and your APRS Port from your config file ?? There are a few things I do not understand.  If I see yours, maybe it will answer a lot of questions.  I don’t believe the EJ-40U TNC in my Alinco DR-135TP will work it its KISS mode as it is limited.  I will give it a try.

Thanks  Bill

Ok, Peter,

Unfortunately I don’t have a slow machine here to try it on.

Even with 10000 stations it only uses a few percent on my Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz based laptop, but I realise that a direct comparison of clock speed between old and new processors can be misleading.

Do you see the problem with a very low number of stations? – I’m interested to know if it is drawing the map that takes so much, or adding the station icons.

I could probably add an option to refresh less often for slow machines.

Hi John,

Thanks for checking it out, I don`t see it as a problem for an average user as machines now days are fast and you wouldn`t see this effect, my machine here maybe needs another shovel full of coal, Hi Hi.

It is only a problem as the map becomes more populated BUT it is only for a second or so where the mouse etc stops to function, on a faster machine, you don`t even notice it.

I thought I would just mention it in case someone else had a similar problem but I am certainly not going to worry about it.

Hello all BPQ32 Sysops....

I just discovered this morning that Winlink has changed their channel
status pages for Packet and HF Channels. Their new reporting no longer
excepts the time settings some sysops are running.....for example:

WL2KREPORT www.winlink.org, 8778, G8BPQ, IO68VL, 24/7 BPQ, 144800000,
1200, 10, 20, 5, 0

The time band must be in this format.....just like the HF channels.

WL2KREPORT www.winlink.org, 8778, G8BPQ, IO68VL, 00-23, 144800000, 1200,
10, 20, 5, 0

If you use any other format than the 00-23, winlink reports an INVALID
in the Hours column. Please make the change, if needed. Thanks
everyone....

Ken

Peter,

I’ll have a look and see how difficult this would be, although I’m no really sure what problem it is trying to solve. Doesn’t the Linux Kernel have netrom support?

Hi John,

As below from XROUTER, is there any chance BPQ32 could have
something similar ??

It would make it a lot easier for Linux users to interface with LinFBB.

---------- From the Xrouter Doc`s.

- Added proxies to allow L2 and TCP/IP systems to be proxied onto NetRom,
i.e. to give them a L4 visibility. These are activated by new
global PROXY= commands in XROUTER.CFG as follows:

PROXY=<call> <alias> <qual> <ipaddr> <tcpport> [pass]
PROXY=<call> <alias> <qual> <l2call> <rfport>

The first form is for Netrom->TCP and the second is for NetRom->Ax25.
Note that the password is not used in the Netrom->ax25 case. I'm
not sure I agree with giving every Tom, Dick and Harry ax25 system a
L4 presence because the node tables are already full enough!
The optional [pass] argument can be up to 8 characters, and is sent
after the callsign on the first line sent upon connection, to verify
that the connection is coming from the proxy. Examples:

PROXY=gb7pzt kdrbbs 150 192.168.0.4 8888 mypass
PROXY=mb7uyl tstbbs 120 g8pzt-3 7

If you wish the TCP/IP system to be visible to AX25 but not Netrom,
set the quality to zero.

Hi John,

yes the kernal has Netrom support, may have to setup the linux node but that is limited in what it can do.

MailChat started normally following installation and prompted me to enter the

If you had a previous version of BPQMailChat and the new installation
was asking for you to configure the first 4
Tabs, the root directory has changed, earlier versions by default was
C:\Program Files\BPQ32 new versions should have stayed the same path but
sounds like it didn't, check your Path in the Configuration, Main
configuration, BBS Params, if XP or W2K

Start, Run Regedit, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\G8BPQ\BPQ32

"BPQ Directory"="C:\\Program Files\\BPQ32"
"BPQ Program Directory"="C:\\Program Files\\BPQ32"

I ether case the BBS Params must be the same as registry, the newer
releases when installed have two folder locations to accommodate Vista
and W7, you can find the Configuration file location by go to Start, All
Programs, BPQ32, select View Configuration Folder.

My guess is the Base Directory is not the same in BBS Params and
Registry, correct the Base directory, Save, Restart MailChat.

Let us know if this solved the problem.

Mike,

Thanks for responding. This was a new installation on a machine that had never
hosted BPQ before. I will cross-walk the registry and configuration directory
paths to ensure they're consistent, though, and let you know if that was the
problem. It may be time to just wipe the installation and try again from
scratch.

Another question - I noticed several files in my BPQMailChat folder names
"Traffic_######.txt" where the number was a date stamp. Opening the file I found
an excellent traffic summary for a 7-day period broken out by station and
including message and byte counts. Is this a new feature? If so, is it
user-customizable? I'd like to run this routing for various time periods to
better understand how my and other BBSes are utilized.

Yes, the Traffic.txt is new it does go back a few versions, I think
started with BPQ32 Version 5.x.x.x

I do not think the Traffic.txt logs are user user-customizable, I am
sure John will answer this question, there is a LastTrafficTime entry in
the Housekeeping registry value but I am not sure one can change the
timing of when the log may be created.

All of your Users BBS forwarding is stored in the registry
MailChat\+ BBS Forwarding, and user info is stored in the Folder
BPQMailChat\BPQBBSUsers.dat file, you could copy the
Registry entry for MailChat\Forwarding to your new BPQMailChat
Only copy that value since the files locations are different in a fresh
install, and copy the BPQBBSUsers.dat

This will save a lot of work if you have many Users/Partners.

I strongly suggest you enable Save Registry setting in the BPQMailChat
Housekeeping this will create registry backups.

When installing BPQ32/MailChat there are 2 directory path options, by
default the first is Programs Files\BPQ32
The next is Program Directory this is by default,
C:\Document and Settings\Computer User\Application Data

If you do, a new install go slow and change the Program direct path to
C:\Program Files\BPQ32 then all will be in one folder.

The Uninstall may not remove all files in the Application Data folder,
you may need to delete manually.

Caution only for XP and previous versions!!

Mike,

Roger - I've successfully moved the MailChat configuration files on several
occasions and always use the Registry Save feature. Fortunately I haven't had
any problems with upgrading and dealing with the directory paths - I usually put
BPQ in a custom folder structure away from Program Files (C:\HAM\BPQ32\... is
the usual choice).

I wasn't able to find the "LastTrafficTime" registry entry, only
"LastHousekeepingTime".

Is this the same BPQMailChat you have the Traffic.txt in?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\G8BPQ\BPQ32\BPQMailChat\Housekeeping]

"LastHouseKeepingTime"=dword:4f5a3172
"LastTrafficTime"=dword:4f5384ea

If this is you the machine you just installed BPQMailChat the registry
value may not show up until your run housekeeping once again I do not
know that this value can be changed.

C:\HAM\BPQ32\... this is fine

Mike/Andy,

You shouldn’t change “Last Traffic Time”. It is used to prevent the traffic report being generated twice on the same day.

At the moment the report is generated just after midnight each Sunday, and is not configurable.

73,

John

Is this the same BPQMailChat you have the Traffic.txt in?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\G8BPQ\BPQ32\BPQMailChat\Housekeeping]

"LastHouseKeepingTime"=dword:4f5a3172
"LastTrafficTime"=dword:4f5384ea

If this is you the machine you just installed BPQMailChat the registry
value may not show up until your run housekeeping once again I do not
know that this value can be changed.

C:\HAM\BPQ32\... this is fine

Mike,

Roger - I've successfully moved the MailChat configuration files on
several occasions and always use the Registry Save feature. Fortunately
I haven't had any problems with upgrading and dealing with the directory
paths - I usually put BPQ in a custom folder structure away from Program
Files (C:\HAM\BPQ32\... is the usual choice).

I wasn't able to find the "LastTrafficTime" registry entry, only
"LastHousekeepingTime".

John,

Thank you for creating the traffic report - it provides a great summary of BBS
activity.

Would it be possible to make the reporting period customizable? I can think of
several situations where daily and/or monthly reports would be useful (NTS
activity reports, emergency communication event reports, etc.)

Andy,

I’ll see what can be done. It would be reasonably easy to run at a different interval, but producing both daily and monthly reports would need a change to the way the data is stored.

From today’s IDHS Daily EOC Brief:

Event: Largest solar storm in 5 years
Location: Throughout the state
Date/Time: Thursday, March 8, 2012
Source: WTHI-TV
Synopsis: The largest solar storm in five years is on a path towards earth but scientists say the aftermath is nothing to panic about. Coronal Mass Ejections or burps from the sun are sending material from the sun towards our planet. The current storm is the largest solar storm on record. Richard Ditteon, professor with Rose-Hulman says the sun is on an upswing of its 11-year-cycle which explains the recent activity. Ditteon says, “So when we say it's the strongest storm in five years its still not a big deal. Stronger storms are likely to happen in the future, it's just we have been through a phase where there hasn't been much activity.” Ditteon adds, the particles that are heading towards earth may seem large on video but the gas flares are actually very thin and aren't big enough to effect the earth. According to Ditteon, people shouldn't see cell phone disruptions or black-outs but there are possibilities with future storms.

Last update I did I was told via message in the BPQ console, that the Dummy Map
line was no longer necessary and was being ignored. So, i removed it.

Well, ever since then I am no longer shown on the chat map. Coincidence or what?

I do not have any chat links. I was thinking that without links it does not
report or something. Clicking the send data to chat map does nothing.

Any clues?

Actually not correct. If the chat node is enabled, it will report even if it has no links. There are quite a few standalone chat nodes on the map.

But in Mark’s case, I’ve looked on node N5MDT-13 and it doesn’t seem to have chat running – is that the right node?

Restarting BPQ did not affect it, but completely shutting down BPQ and
restarting it now looks like chat is no longer disabled. Don't know what
could have done that.

I guess I'll show back up on the map soon.

Check Chat Appl Number in the Chat section of the main config dialog.

It must match an APPLICATION definition in BPQ32.cfg.

Is it possible to configure a seccond axudp port that broadcasts
anything send to it?
I currently have agwpe in use for that connected to digi_ned, the idea
is to transmit anything recieved on 144.800 out on the axudp port and
anything with the digicall in it from axudp back out on 144.800,
obviously I don't want to send all aprs trafic to all my link partners,
just those that have a map entry for the seccond aprs udp port.
