Hi, I don't for now, but know of 2 Austrians and one US guy. Would be
interesting with "combi mode" P123&RPR creating interest for clients.

If the BPQ32 switch with BBS or RMS Packet access could run combimode with their
already invested PTC2s do slow scanning the HF rig, then suddenly a new combi
option is created.
Or eventually with an extra HF rig on one specific Band in RPR mode.

This will probably generate interest from the clients. Good for VHF/UHF also.

There has so far been "nowhere to go" using this mode for meesaging.

Rod, I am not sure about at the moment, but I think I tried it some time

> Tony  Hunt VK5AH

2. DIGI_NED runs on windows thanks to the Cygwin library. I never
really caught that. It has for years. It talks to AGWPE. BPQ32,
which I use, has a shim widget that presents the BPQ32 ports as an
AGWPE interface. Thus I now have DIGI_NED running natively on the
BPQ32 packet PC. This is a big step towards more intelligent
inter-network routing.

It was a little tricky getting it going. The AGW2BPQ interface had a
couple confusing options. Once that was going the default
DIGI_NED.ini initialization file had rules for ALL to ALL digipeating.
  So any packet digipeated, was digipeated out on all the ports. When
ALL is 6 ports - that makes for lots of extraneous digipeating...

Now for a little more time tweaking the digipeating rules and I then I
can turn off the UI-View digipeater.

Hello to all,

I am part of the HF packet network "Network 105" and traditionally we have used
AEA and Kantronics TNCs mainly operating in AEA-Gateway and KA-Node modes. There
are some newer Kantronics operating in K-NET (netrom compatible) and a few NOS
nodes too.

We have also recently got a couple of new nodes with guys using BPQ32. One I
believe is using AGWPE/Sound Card and the other is AGWPE/SCS Tracker DSP.

Now, NETROM is not terribly useful on HF. In fact it can be counterproductive.
Very rarely will "it take you all the way there" because of changing conditions.

My preference for new nodes would be more like KA or AEA nodes, basically ones
that don't do node<>node broadcasts or at least the minimum of info transfer.

What would be the best way to tame some of this node<>node traffic on HF? Could
the NODESINTERVAL be set to zero to disable the node broadcast for instance?

I don't use BPQ32 here so can't easily test.

Anyone is welcome to try our network by the way - the parameters we use are:-

HBAUD=300
PACLEN=60
MAXFRAME=1
FRACK=5
DWAIT=0

The frequency is:-
MARK: 14103.4
SPACE: 14103.2

SSID convention:

Absent: QSO/Keyboarding
-1: Personal maildrop
-2: Kantronics digipeating "gateway"
-7: Node. Any type.

Node aliases are assigned for stations taking up permanent or semi-permanent
residence.

We don't allow APRS traffic, binary transfers or mail reverse forwarding. It is
primarily a network for ragchewing and personal mail.

Hi Sholtofish,

                On my 14.105 port I have Quality=0 for NO NODES BROADCASTS on that HF port. Easy enough for all BPQ32 Nodes to set theirs to 0 as well for their port on 14.105Mhz..

I believe that curbed any nodes broadcasts on that port. I have not noticed any going out nor any Transmissions lasting for a long time as it would on HF.

May make the request here if you like.

Nice to be back on 105 part time atleast!!!

Working on a Homemade 20 Meter inverted V for permanent operations there again soon.

Hi Rick,

Nice to hear from you out there at Cape Code.  Happy Holidaze from Bill out here in Montana.

I did packet a lot 85 - 95 Rick as it was the only way I could get my Keplarian Elements for Satellite Tracking and ARRL Bulletins.  I never have been an ARRL Member as I put my funds into AMSAT and their projects.  When the Internet showed up in the mied - late 90's well that just killed packet out here. I remember we had the BBS up until about 1995 and when I last checked it there were no updates from AMSAT for two years and I had been the only to check in for two years.   I kinda miss it....

Enough of old stuff.  Yes, I am looking at once again having AMSAT/ARRL Bulletins on my BBS with BPQ 32 along with Chat and a RMS Packet Server.  We have put up about 6 - 8 X 1J4 nodes throughout Western Montana for some pretty good coverage.  There are two other RMS Packet Servers so in an emergency we could get e-mail out through one of them and if not I have Winmor on the sidelines with RMS Express and I can forward the messages etc. if needed during a disater or whatever.  It is basic but we have to start some where.  I think Army Mars out here as several SCS Pactor station to cover a lot of the State into the DES OFFICE also.

I should have my BPQ 32 up and running this week and will hop on and chat with you on the chat mode if your about. I will e-mail when I get her up and going.  I ski a lot in the winter so not home a lot........ Retired and do a few Wild Land Fires in Summer and then winter is what or wherever as noticed on my web page.  I even skied in Antarctica and had a blast.

Cheers Rick and again thanks for the nice e-mail and next time it will be on packet..... slower but more fun..

Hi Gang,

I am experimenting on setting up BPQ on my extra lap top and have a RADIO Shack USB to RS-232 that loads on com4. I set up BPQ using medium with the KISS TNC just as is and it will not recognize the COM port so I can load RMS Packet. I made all changes I believe necessary in the Medium Example and changed the applications from the DX to Applications=BBS,CHAT,RMS and the associated 1 2 3 in the App descriptions and I cannot connect to any Appication. I can solve this one later com port is important to get my RMS Packet Server running first...

Now all I did was change the MED cfg file and put it in BPQ Directory and started it up. I did the com port description etc.  Since it is a real TNC on a USB to Serial is that problem with the KISS TNC in the Medium CFG file ??

Hi Bill
I use 2 adapters like you have but from Beagle software. Once I installed the adapters drivers, and found out which comm ports they emulated, I use it like it was a comm port with nothing special in BPQ.
Do you have the right device driver for the adapter?
Maybe you are trying too hard?
Good luck

                USB to RS-232 adapters have been problematic. The ones I have been successful with have all used the Prolific drivers.  They have worked without any problems from W2K, XP and Vista. I assume that the USB adapter is on your defined port #1. Also if the TNC is not a KISS mode only then you must put it in KISS mode manually before starting BPQ. Also do you have RMS Packet set as application 3 in the RMS Packets, Packet channels, BPQ Configuration screen? Can you connect to the BPQ node?

Hi Bill,

Nice to hear from you.  Yep, I found the USB RS232 problem in that I forgot to set it to com4 in the port 1 set up. I just tested it and all is ok. RMS Packet is talking to the TNC and beaconing.

Next problem will be to solve the applications problem.  I set up three apps  BBS CHAT RMS  but cannot access any of them in the terminal Window when I c RMS or BBS or K7M-1 CHAT K7MT-2 or RMS K7MT-10 ( As defined in RMS packet program).  I will have to study this one.

Third item is I an not sure about the axip connection as I cannot connect to anything on port 2 but will get that figured out after getting access to the three applications I put in.

I am kinda stumbling along.  I know I have to change the BPQ CFG file as I did and put it in the main directory. Set up MAIL Chat but noticed that is not in the main directory as BPQ it is still in the BBSChat folder. Maybe that has to be in the main directory.  Will work on it.  The directions define each area very nicely, but no real step 1 cfg file 2 etc. so one know everything that needs to be done step by step so all the modules necessary are modified and in their proper location.  I am learning Bill.  Pooped been at this through the entire Monday Night Football game. and now Bill Cosby is on so I need a couple laughs

Bill

                BPQMailChat should be in the BPQMailChat directory under the BPQ32 directory. Start BPQMailChat and then set up the configuration from the setup screens. From within BPQ, or connected to the BPQ node, only the defined commands will work. They are the second parameter on the APPLICATION definition.

Hi Bill,

To connect to an application from BPQTerminal you just type the application name, without the C - ie BBS CHAT or RMS.

Users connecting to you can connect to the application callsigns, or connect to the node call, and use the same application names.

Normally the  BBS files go in the BPQMailChat subdirectory of the BPQ32 Directory, but you can put them anywhere.  Just make sure you set Base Directory to where you want them on the BPQMailChat main configuration screen.

Hi Gang,

Subj from a Beatles Line is most appropriate. Ken helped me out and I now have RF working with the BBS and RMS Packet Server.  A little unknow KPC-3 command that I should take comfort in:  Interface KISS  !!!!!!!!

I will next work on getting the axip up so I can do chat and get port two folks on my mh list.  After that I will look into getting ARRL and AMSAT bulletins delivered to my BBS. My goal here is just RMS Server, BBS, CHAT, and getting the above mentioned bulletins.  I looked over the mail handling stuff and am going to stick with RMS Server to deliver and recieve e-mail.  Winmor might be in the picture as I do use it here on occasion.

This is just so cool and I am having a wonderful adventure learning all this stuff.  Thanks everyone..

K7MT again,

One quick question I do have is that my BPQ node is doing a lot of polling with the other nodes around the area and its been going on for about 5 hours.  Is there a sysop command to stop, time this, or set a schedule.  Thats a lot of transmissions on my solar power station I am not sure if necessary or maybe it is as they heard a new node and went ye ha  who is this dude ?????

                Exactly what is your system asking and from whom? A monitor trace should show what I need.

Bill

                You are sending out you node list every 5 – 6 min. Under SYSTEM NETWORK PARAMETERS change NODESINTERVAL+ to 30 or more minutes. While you are their look at all timing parameters. Set to 30+ minutes for fixed operation. One interesting node entry BPQHLN:K7MT-6 via K7MT-6 qlty=160 this could be Causing some other problems.

Ok Bill here it is..  Anythin else ???

; Network System Parameters:

OBSINIT=6  ; Initial obsolescence set when a node is included
   ; in a received nodes broadcast. This value is then
   ; decremented by 1 every NODESINTERVAL.
OBSMIN=4  ; When the obsolescence of a node falls below this
   ; value that node's information is not included in
   ; a subsequent nodes broadcast.
NODESINTERVAL=60 ; Nodes broadcast interval in minutes
IDINTERVAL=60  ; 'IDMSG' UI broadcast interval in minutes, 0=OFF
BTINTERVAL=60  ; The BTEXT broadcast interval in minutes, 0=OFF
L3TIMETOLIVE=25  ; Max L3 hops
L4RETRIES=3  ; Level 4 retry count
L4TIMEOUT=60  ; Level 4 timeout in seconds s/b > FRACK x RETRIES
L4DELAY=10  ; Level 4 delayed ack timer in seconds
L4WINDOW=4  ; Level 4 window size
MAXLINKS=63  ; Max level 2 links
MAXNODES=128  ; Max nodes in nodes table
MAXROUTES=64  ; Max adjacent nodes
MAXCIRCUITS=128  ; Max L4 circuits
MINQUAL=168  ; Minimum quality to add to nodes table
; INP3 Routing is experimental.  The two parms which follow will be ignored
; unless activated in the ROUTES: section.
MAXHOPS=4  ; INP3 hop limit to add to tables
MAXRTT=90  ; INP3 max RTT in seconds
BUFFERS=255  ; Packet buffers - 255 means allocate as many as
   ; possible, normally about 130, depending upon other
   ; table sizes.

Bill

                It turns out station K7LMT-6 is sending node lists every 5 min. Nothing you can do about that.

                Cleaned up some comments, used the latest application definitions and added LOCATOR as the first parameter.  Do all your messages need to be so long?
