I am curious how the WINMOR TNC knows which COM port
to toggle DTRRTS on for xmit keying.

Tnx es 73,

Howard,

Once
you have ATTTACHed to your winmor port from
BPQTerminal you can use any WINMOR
TNC commands, including DRIVELEVEL and TWOTONETEST.
Once you have
found the right level, you wil have to maually edit
the value in your init
file.

I'll
add providing a better way of setting up to the "wish
list".

   Hi,

It would be nice for the BPQ Winmor Status window to
have:
o
A means to do a two-tone test, and
o Adjust & save the drive
   level.

This is not a must have, but it will be
   nice.

Dennis,

It doesn't. WINMOR TNC sends a message to BPQ telling it when to key and unkey the transmitter. You either use VOX, or use Rigcontrol.cfg  to define which COM port and control line to use for PTT.

Not using VOX just a Buxcom Rascal on COM7. Do I make a special Winmor entry to the Rigcontrol.cfg file ?

There is sample of  PTT control in the example Rigcontrol.cfg file towards the bottom of the page.

You need something like:

COM7 19200 PTTONLY

# For PTT control, specify only a Name and a BPQ Port Number.
# You can have two RADIO lines, to allow a single COM port to control two WINMOR ports, one using RTS and the other DTR

RADIO IC7000 3

you also need the PTT option in the BPQtoWinmor, cfg file PORT line:

PORT 3 127.0.0.1 8500 PTT DTRRTS              (or just DTR or RTS if you only use one of the lines)

Ken,
It worked fine as long as you only wanted to send or receive messages
addressed to the Base Callsign for the BPQ node. Our node is AA9MM-2
and when we use BPQTNC2 for Outpost all messages seemed to come from
AA9MM regardless of who was logged into Outpost. AA9MM was also the
only call sign that could retrieve mail at the BPQ host computer. Can
you use multiple callsigns for Outpost with your setup? Did I miss
something?

We had set up a telnet connection (with an ethernet crossover cable)
that worked fine and let any user connect with their own callsign or
with a tactical call sign from a 2nd computer. Terry (AA9MM) thought
that it was causing memory issues on the 2nd computer (an old machine)
we were using for the telnet connection, but when we had tested it
earlier with a laptop it was working fine.

For right now, I still have it set up to work with BPQTNC2, although
we're looking to see whether a newer computer would eliminate the
memory issues Terry said he was seeing with the telnet approach. One
of the neighboring communities say they have telnet working with a
wireless connection.

In one of your emails, you stated that you get both your local packet
messages and winlink messages with one connection to the bbs. I'd like
to see what all is necessary to do that. Currently we have the BBS as
AA9MM-1 and the RMS as AA9MM-10. What do you do to pull email through
to the BBS?

Hi Len,

I assume you are using BPQMail and have updated the
the latest version....

RMS polling is setup in the User Setup portion of the
BBS. There is a check box for each user that states
poll RMS and you can select up to 3 different SSID's.
Please note: The BBS does not differentiate between
KD6PGI and KD6PGI-7....so, it can poll RMS for KD6PGI
and KD6PGI-7, but they will be picked up by KD6PGI
when he logs in. We use tactical callsigns at the our
county location to handle different site which use
the same callsign with different SSIDs. So, our EOC
is HREOC with callsign KA7HRC-3, the hospital HRPMH
is KA7HRC-5, and so on. The tactical callsigns are
each and individual account on the BBS.

To do RMS polling you must also add a USER account
called RMS and set it up as a BBS. In the BBS setup,
you set the TO field for RMS and setup your connect
script for your local RMS (or another RMS over RF)
and set enable forwarding and enable reverse
forwarding. Set a time for polling, such as 1800 secs
(ie 1/2 hour) or whatever you want your poll
interval. We use 1 hour around here during non
emergency times. Make sure to checkmark the B2
Protocol as well.

If I haven't missed anything...LOL, it should now
poll RMS at whatever interval you have set
automatically. It will poll for whatever callsign you
have checked in the user setup for RMS polling.

You should be able to use Outpost for multiple
callsigns...so, one more thing to check in Outpost.
Under the TNC Setup, the TNC Commands tab....make
sure mycall reads "mycall". TNC2BPQ will change the
mycall for whichever callsign is being used in
Outpost, but the mycall command must read "mycall" in
the Outpost TNC setup in order for it to work.

Let me know if if you have any issues with that....I
need to put together an instruction page for using
TNC2BPQ with Outpost...similar to the Telnet
Instructions.....

       Ken,

It worked fine as long as you only wanted to send or
receive messages

addressed to the Base Callsign for the BPQ node. Our
node is AA9MM-2

and when we use BPQTNC2 for Outpost all messages
seemed to come from

AA9MM regardless of who was logged into Outpost.
AA9MM was also the

only call sign that could retrieve mail at the BPQ
host computer. Can

you use multiple callsigns for Outpost with your
setup? Did I miss

something?

We had set up a telnet connection (with an ethernet
crossover cable)

that worked fine and let any user connect with their
own callsign or

with a tactical call sign from a 2nd computer. Terry
(AA9MM) thought

that it was causing memory issues on the 2nd computer
(an old machine)

we were using for the telnet connection, but when we
had tested it

earlier with a laptop it was working fine.

For right now, I still have it set up to work with
BPQTNC2, although

we're looking to see whether a newer computer would
eliminate the

memory issues Terry said he was seeing with the
telnet approach. One

of the neighboring communities say they have telnet
working with a

wireless connection.

In one of your emails, you stated that you get both
your local packet

messages and winlink messages with one connection to
the bbs. I'd like

to see what all is necessary to do that. Currently we
have the BBS as

AA9MM-1 and the RMS as AA9MM-10. What do you do to
pull email through

to the BBS?

Ken,
Wonderful ideas. I may stop by and implement them this afternoon. And
will forward this email to a couple of other local people trying to do
the same thing. It sure would be simpler to be able to do this on the
host computer. Keep it simple if you can. You can do the fancy stuff,
but if no one can follow what you've been doing then it won't work
when you need it.

I have let the station run .Since I have had several fixes applied.. No
changes for a while now.. Seems to be running well.. I have seen an anomaly
on pactor but no idea how to really describe it.. Will email john my logs
with a description as best I can... and a few photos of display on PTCII and
Radio.

Been busy with wife's recovery and my own medical needs.. SO I hope to
address a few of the concerns of forwarding partners tomorrow as well as
some NTS issues with new stations willing to retrieve those...

I also have a project I am working on .. Adding a TMd710 to both our
vehicle. And Portable Packet to mine via HF and or VHF... via 706.

Work has become busy.. working some where between 10 and 14 hours a day...

If it seems like I am ignoring someone that is not my intention...

I just hope work leaves me alone tomorrow... lol

Back home after two week trip.
The N0JAl system has run well during that time.
I checked the system morning and evening while on the road.
Only had to reset the Winmor TNC twice during that time.
Sai (N0JAL) did not get any phone calls about problem with the
system on the AX.25 network side.

When searching thru the messages in BPQMail, the command "L@ KB0WSA" yields nothing... but, if you use "L@ KB0WSA.MO.USA.NA" then several items are found. I find that having to include the entire "h-address" of a bbs in the search string is an unnecessary "pain in the backside"... so, I respectfully request that fixing this be included in the next update (to require only the bbs callsign).

Some very good propagation last night, and also this afternoon.

I've been watching the data transfer carefully, and playing with antenna direction.

Last night, the strongest signal was almost always right on path.
However, the best decodes and "cleanest" signal varied from 20 N
20 degrees S of path. With the beam on path, there would be 5-10
minute period of selective fading. Mostly the link ran at 8C4F to 8C4P,
with occasional periods of 8C8P. Good data transfer rates.

While I was on the road, sometimes I left the radio on 14112 ... when
I was about half way between us, both signals were quite good. Then
there were days of almost no propagation to anywhere on 20 - grin.

Back home after two week trip.

The N0JAl system has run well during that time.

I checked the system morning and evening while on the road.

Only had to reset the Winmor TNC twice during that time.

Sai (N0JAL) did not get any phone calls about problem with the

system on the AX.25 network side.

I just hope work leaves me alone tomorrow... lol

Hi,

My TNC-X tnc is getting flaky. Over time I need to increase the volume level
coming out of my IC2200H radio external speaker jack for the TNC to receive
properly.

One thought I have, is to buy the Kenwood TM-D710A with a built-in TNC. Then I
can put the IC2200H radio back in my car.

Does BPQ32 work well with the Kenwood TM-D710A's TNC? Or does it have quirks or
problems?

Another thought is to buy the SCS Tracker TNC.

I currently run a amateur HF Winmor RMS with the latest software. I enjoy
running a day/night frequency, which automatically switches at the appointed
time as a result of programmable configuration. This also does a handshake with
the WL2K servers, indicating my activity status.

I have been looking at BPQMail as a possible replacement but wonder if these
same features are available therein. I am also considering BPQMail for USAF
MARS use, and would require these same features. What can you tell me?

Thanks in advance...

Gary,

BPQ32 supports scanning for WINMOR and Pactor, both multiple frequencies and time of day. At the moment this is limited to ICOM, Kenwood and Yaesu rigs, but others could be added if someone needs it, and is prepared to test it.

I am testing a reporting facility to the WL2K servers, and this should be available soon.

The difference is 6 character vs. 5 character callsigns.

With the 5 character callsigns, the '@' after the callsign is being included.
There is a parsing error, the from address should be terminated at the '@'.
I'm sure John can fix this quickly.

John, this is a "forwarding proposal" from N8MDT (a bpq bbs) to N0KFQ (fbb 7.00i bbs).
An almost identical (did not include the N7GLS@ error)  incident occurred in a "forward proposal" from KE7XO (a bpq bbs).... I do not remember where the third proposal originated.

I can not find a log of this in my fbb files??

The messages are refused by FBB with the "E" response, so they are not on my bbs. They are proposed at each "forward proposal" by the bpq bbs.
