John,
If you minimize the TelnetServer window and an incoming connect is
detected an error is produced-

Run-Time error '384'
'A form can't be moved or sized while minimized or maximized'

Hi John.

    Glad to see you are returning to the scene again!
I am looking to run two networked computers, one
running FBB and the other running my Satgate, which
needs to talk to FBB, and also the AR-Cluster node.
This will have to be accessed over the network from
FBB.

   I was wondering if BPQ32 will cater for this? I was
going to try the old 4.08 but did not think it would
be too successful with the Cluster as well on the
Satgate machine.

   The RF feed for the Cluster node will be on the
Satgate machine, with it's own 70Mhz radio.

The code is not doing what I intended. A new version
will be released soon.

It's probably worth explaining the reason for the
change. There has always
been a problem with running AR-Cluster and other BPQ
applications, as
AR-Cluster writes the "Config File Location" registry
value every time it
starts, so you can't put the BPQ files anywhere else.
The new "BPQ
Directory" key, apart from being a better description
(it points to things
other than the config file) gets round this problem,
and lets you put your
BPQ32 files wherever you like. I had intended the
change to be backward
compatible, but unfortunately messed it up.

While I'm here, I'll document another change. Almost
from the beginnings of
BPQ32 there has been a problem whereby if you ran two
or more BPQ
applications, you could stop and restart the second
and subsequent ones in
any order, but if you closed the first one, the system
would hang. This has
now been fixed.

Mark,

The "Using Config From" message is new. It is intended
to make tracking down
config problems easier.

I've modified the config file search. What it is
supposed to do is look
first for the reg value "BPQ Directory". If that is
not present it looks for
"Config File Location". If that is not set, it looks
in the current
directory. This should be backward compatible with the
old version, as
AR-Cluster sets
"Config File Location" to c:\program
files\Ar-Cluster\BPQ32. If it fails to
find the files, it looks like something is not working
as I intended. Could
you send me a dump of the registry tree
"HKLM\Software\G8BPQ\BPQ32" so I can
investigate?

There is a new program, SetRegistryPath in the
release. If you run this from
the directory containing your config files, it should
set up the new
registry entry.

Regards,

John

Hi Roger - nice to hear from you after all these years!

Ok Dave. There are lots of options. You can run 'old' DOS BPQ applications in 2K/XP systems using BPQ1632. See the files section for the software. Version 7.01 of WinFBB will interface directly to BPQ32. I'm about to release a replacement for TFWIN and TFWIN32/TF2AGW which will allow 16 or 32bit versions of WFBB to use BPQ32.  If you are still running AK1A cluster that will work fine using BPQ1632. Or you can upgrade to either free or commercial Windows Cluster programs such as DXNet or AR-Cluster. Any of these would allow the user to select either BBS or DX.

I don't know much about SatGate - how does that link to FBB?

John

I am using BPQ32 to provide a Telnet interface to WinLink 2.9's packet port
using BPQTNC2.

If I set BPQTNC2 to be a virtual port and set WinLink's packet module to
that port I can connect and have no issues.

If I set BPQTNC2 to be a Real port (ex. Com 2) and loop that physical port
to Com 3, which is what WinLink's Packet port is set to, everything seems
fine but if I connect to the BBS and ask for a list of messages I always
miss the last line. In the Virtual mode this does not happen. I really want
to run this between 2 boxes. I am testing the above scenario on a Win2000
Pro box (which WinLink 2.9 acts up on).

Gary,
If both systems are on the same ethernet network, you should
be able to use Johns ethernet driver. Working fine on my
network. Here's a sample:

PORT ; Ethernet link to House packet systems
	 PORTNUM=1
	 ID=Ethernet To Other Systems
	 TYPE=EXTERNAL
	 DLLNAME=BPQEther.DLL
	 QUALITY=248
	 MAXFRAME=7
	 FRACK=7000
	 RESPTIME=1000
	 RETRIES=10
	 PACLEN=236
ENDPORT

And the BPQether.cfg file: Watch the line-wrap here.

You'll want to use BPQ rather than RLI modes.
Need to install WinPcap to create the ADAPTER text.

I've discovered an error in BPQCTRL.ocx. Has anone written or is aware
of any software, apart from AR-Cluster and my programs, that use this

Gary,
If both systems are on the same ethernet network, you should
be able to use Johns ethernet driver. Working fine on my network. Here's a
sample:

PORT ; Ethernet link to House packet systems
	 PORTNUM=1
	 ID=Ethernet To Other Systems
	 TYPE=EXTERNAL
	 DLLNAME=BPQEther.DLL
	 QUALITY=248
	 MAXFRAME=7
	 FRACK=7000
	 RESPTIME=1000
	 RETRIES=10
	 PACLEN=236
ENDPORT

And the BPQether.cfg file: Watch the line-wrap here.

John,

Is there any way to generate a CTEXT with a telnet connection? At
present the only message that is generated is **** connected to stream
X, and nothing else. Currently all my users have been told to type a ?
if they forget the commands and that is my work around.

I noticed posting that mentioned something about a trailing N a few
days ago. That character is not just an N it is anything that has more
characters than the word USER: in the log in. Example if at the USER
prompt I enter a login of kb8dm, when the word password comes up the DM
stays. The problem appears to be that there should either a carriage
return like this USER: KB8DM <cr> and make that line non destructive
and issue the Password Prompt, or make the Entire User login line
destructive before issuing the password prompt.

I hope that is clear. It does tend to confuse people because of the
hanging characters.

Thanks for info Duane.  Perhaps it is something else inter playing then.  I will have to reload all the stuff when I get home.  My bpqnodes.dat file doesn't really load correctly when I completely stop bpq32.  It has a few of them, but unfortunately none that I need 100% of the time and it corrupts one entry which is the link back to my AK1A style cluster.

It might be some other code that I was working with for John, I shall move it all and reload it again from scratch.

Thanks for the report.

Jay,

There has been one change fairly recently, which enables an automatic save of the NODES on exit (if the AUTOSAVE=1 flag is set in bpqcfg.txt). There was also a bug that meant that the locked node flag was not saved. So if you started with locked nodes in BPQNODES.dat, after a restart they would no longer be locked, and would disappear with time. The latest version (409u) fixes saving the locked node flag, or you can disable the AUTOSAVE in bpqcft.txt.

if the problem is that the entries are in the file, but don't get loaded, or you are running 409u, and still losing locked nodes, please send me a copy of your BPQNODES.dat, and I'll investigate.

Jim,
There may be other ways to start it, but a simple way is to place a
shortcut to the exec in the startup directory for the user you logon as..

(assuming you are running XP from the 'C' drive)
C:\Documents and Settings - (logon user directory) - Start Menu -
Programs - Startup

Sorry being stupid,I just created a shortcut to
c:\spider\perl\cluster.pl and put it in the startup folder.

Hope this runs more reliably than dxnet and bpq32 did !

OK, I have tried several things but it looks like this problem is an issue
with BPQTNC2 when running "Real" com ports. I have done some more in depth
tests and this is what I am seeing.

I have a serial port capture program monitoring the com port that is running
BPQTNC2, this is what is coming into the com port (and what I see on the
packet module of Winlink 2.9):

As you can see the last 1 to 2 lines and prompt never get displayed. If I
have BPQTNC2 setup as a Virtual port I do not see this problem. But I can't
run it with V ports, that was just a test to see if the problem existed
there.

Gary,
Monitor the CTS signal in the BPQTNC2 window. Does it toggle
off and on (as flow control should)? When your received data
stops, is CTS no longer asserted? If not check the box, the
data transfer will resume. Try forcing an L2 connection and
perform the same test. I thought this was only a problem here
when talking to my other SNOS machine via ethernet... but it
also occurs between two BPQ32 machines via ethernet. I
understand the conditions between our stations are different,
but the symptom appears to be similar.

Forcing L2 connections has been my workaround.

Make the link by connecting to the alias with any SSID rather
than connecting to the call. You also must provide a port to
connect out on. Example: C 1 JENHF-1

I have tried that before and just now again and get a failure. Need to dig

Connecting at L2 does not resolve the problem.

Gary,

Unfortunately I can't test with real com ports here, as my laptop doesn't
have any. I'm going back down to Nottingham next week and will try to
reproduce the problem then. In the meantime, could you download and run
portmon from http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/portmon.html?
Unfortunately the way that winlink polls the serial driver means that you
will get a huge output, but if you enable monitoring just before sending the
message, then disable immediately afterwards, the output should be
manageable.

Thanks,
John

OK, I have tried several things but it looks like this problem is an issue
with BPQTNC2 when running "Real" com ports. I have done some more in depth
tests and this is what I am seeing.

I have a serial port capture program monitoring the com port that is running
BPQTNC2, this is what is coming into the com port (and what I see on the
packet module of Winlink 2.9):

[WinLink-2.9-FHIMR2T$]AFA1PU de AFA1PU>

This is what BPQ Terminal and Telnet sees:

As you can see the last 1 to 2 lines and prompt never get displayed. If I
have BPQTNC2 setup as a Virtual port I do not see this problem. But I can't
run it with V ports, that was just a test to see if the problem existed
there.

Hello

I have just upgraded GB7CB to bpq 409u (March2006),the node runs fine
but I get a run time error 384 after a few minutes with the telnet server.

Any ideas ?

The machine is running win98.
