I am trying to configure my HF-WINMOR BBS to exchange messages with Winlink. For
that do I need a RMS Packet server in my PC without radio ports?(How to do
that?) Does the RMS Packet server need any BPQ32 configuration?
All hints wellcome.

Perhaps you mean use of BPQMailChat bbs in winmor mode?

If yes, you can exchange mail with central Winlink server by several ways:

1) by link your HF Winmor BPQMailChat to other HF Winmor RMS;
2) by link over VHF packet to neighbor VHF packet-RMS station;
3) by link to local RMS-packet installed on your PC;
4) by link to any packet RMS'es available in NET/ROM packet nodes network.

No.1 and No.2 make you station independent from internet.
No.3 and No.4 need internet connection on your radio service PC.

Hello Sergej,

Yes I mean use of BPQMailChat bbs in winmor mode
In the first phase I have only one HF-Winmor port, no VHF.
So No.2 and No.4 fall out.( Is No 4 possible over Internet?)
I would operate mainly on 80m and there are no HF (or VHF) Winmor RMS close, so
also No. 1 falls out.
The only remaining is No.3, but how to realize it, that is the question.
Internet connection is no problem.

Jouko,

You can run RMS Packet on the same PC as the BPQMailChat and WINMOR, and send messages to Winlink via the Internet.

You need to define an application to BPQ32. I have:

APPLICATIONS=RMS,CHAT,FBB,BBS

APPL1CALL=GM8BPQ-10

APPL1ALIAS=BPQRMS

APPL1QUAL=0

RMS doesn't have to be the first application.

In RMS Packet, configure it to use the BPQ32 interface, and set the APPLMASK in RMS Packet to match the application that you have defined for RMS.

See  http://www.cantab.net/users/john.wiseman/Documents/BPQ%20Mail%20and%20Chat%20Server%20RMS%20Forwarding.htm for details of how to configure forwarding to/from Winlink in BPQMailChat.

John

For this case you need to download RMS Packet program from
http://www.winlink.org/SysopSoftware
install it and use BPQ32 as interface.
MailChat will exchange mail with RMS Packet locally and
then via internet to cental Winlink server.

>Is No 4 possible over Internet?

Of course. This will create a NETROM link over Internet to one of other
NETROM/BPQ32 nodes. You will have own BPQ32 node with possiblity
to extend your facility in future. Think here in group are
several sysop that will be happy to open link with you.

Was checking in on things this afternoon and noticed KB0WSA's connection (an

string of connect requests to the node (KB0WSA-6 MOBRA) showing in monitor that
are ignoring the retry counter parm (7 in this case):

Looks like it's firing off every 4 seconds per FRack on that port, but not
giving up after the 7 tries. This just goes on and on.

Forcing a disconnect of KB0WSA in BPQBBS doesn't change things, the string of
connect attempts continues. A few minutes ago KB0WSA apparently rebooted their
node and things returned to normal after a few minutes.

While I was watching things I also noticed another oddity, if I did a N MOBRA
the 2nd number (obs counter ?) in that response was really high in the 150-160's
and slowly dropping in value. Yeah, you read that right....in the high 100's. I
cleared the screen so I can't cut-n-paste it here, but it was way above the 5 or
less that it should of been.

All other links to other nodes/BBS were working fine.

Maybe Billie or K.O. can chime in on what was happening on their end this
afternoon, but it was clear that my node didn't handle the dropout of that
connection properly.

Been a few other reports of folks seeing similar on RF. Did we ever find out
what happened on this one:

Looks to be pretty much what I saw.

Shortly before noon I shut down MOBRA and all of its "children" to do some "cleanup" in the computer. About half past noon I re-started MOBRA (BPQ32, BPQTelNetServer, BPQMail, RMS Packet), Then I ate lunch.. after lunch I checked the operation of MOBRA and it seemed (and still seems) to be working properly. Are there special (or additional) checks that you would like for me to do?

Thanks K.O., that's all I was curious about unless you noticed an issue around
that time. I could tell by your stats when your node was restarted and after
that things cleared up.

My guess is one (yours or mine) of the BBSes tried a scheduled connect right
about the time you took yours down. Then somehow that connection got stuck on my
end and BPQ didn't handle the link failure very gracefully for some reason.

Also note that I shut BPQMailChat down and it didn't help either, so I suspect
the bug is in the node portion not the BBS code.

I was kind of busy multi-tasking during lunch, so I wasn't able to be overly
thorough in my troubleshooting.

I think you are probably right.. all was running normal with packet before I took the bbs down. It was
not because of packet, but another program that I had to re-start the computer.

If you need me, just holler..  K.O.

Hello Jouko,

If you are sending a message to a user@... who also has a
mailbox on the bbs, the bbs does not send the message to the RMS. It
simply places it in the mailbox for the user.

Try sending a message to an address for somebody who is not a user on
the BBS...it should go through fine.

When testing the setup today forward was no more working to WINLINK.

I cannot understand why the message says ..."local RMS user, leave here". I dont
know of any changes in configurations.

RMS Packet is working OK when connected directly.
Any help welcome.

Oops...just noticed that you were trying to send to an your callsign at
an outside email address...that should have gone through. John is right,
there is a bug there.

OK, good to know, because I have tried during the day everything possible, but
it keeps the messages from all senders to all addresses and will not forward
anything to WL.

The mystery however is why it worked OK in the first tests. But after system
restart there came this problem.

Hmmmm... Really strange.
Which version are you Ken using? Have you tried rms:kd6pgi ?
I think I first used ...m but now have two times un/installed and using the
latest...n.
It then looks like there in sw is some flag not to send to RMS and when it once
is set it cannot be resetted, not even by new installation????? In some "hidden"
file??

Hello Jouko,

I am running the very latest version...and we use the RMS feature very
heavily in our area.

I just sent a test message to you using BBS console and addressed to
rms:oh5rm@... same address listed in your original post. I am
not sure what would happen if you used only rms:kd6pgi as we have never
tried that. However, BPQMail will not send a message to RMS if the
callsign@... is also listed as a user on the BBS. It simply
leaves the message on the BBS for that user to pickup.

I assume on your BBS you have a user setup as RMS. That should be marked
as a BBS, but NOT marked to poll RMS. You only set the poll RMS checkbox
for the users you would like to poll winlink traffic.

How is your forwarding setup for the RMS?

Yes RMS WAS marked poll RMS. By removing it all seems to work OK.
I was so sure I did read somewhere it should be set that I din't try that
alternative, but everything else during two days, HI
Thanks for the patience and help.

John & others, is it possible to have more than one AXUDP ports.
ie, We only want that AXUDP port to have specific netrom links on & not to flood other links.
ie one has a AXUDP link to a remote node on the AXUDP port 4, but notice that the netrom nodes has six ways to get to the remote.
I have locked the route but still cannot connect to it from BPQ32 [vk2dot-1]. The locked route from BPQ32 looks like -
VK2DOT-9,220,4,2,7000,236

on doing a n vk2dot-9  from BPQ32 [vk2dot-1] the following results -
220 6 4 vk2dot-9
1 0.00s 4 vk2dot-9

When we load the BPQ32 software initially, we cannot connect to the remote node [vk2dot-9 or XFbb vk2dot-2], after a nodes broadcast from vk2dot-9 & vk2dot-2, we can see the node vk2dot-9 & vk2dot-2 but still cannot connect to them. The call vk2dot-9 & vk2dot-2 are displayed on the AXIP MHheard screen.

If one removes the fixed route, then after restart - & XFbb vk2dot-2 is displayed on the AXIP MHheard screen, we can connect to XFbb vk2dot-2 from BPQ32 [vk2dot-1]
However we can connect from vk2dot-9 node to BPQ32 node with no problems. but, we cannot connect to node vk2dot-9 from BPQ32 [vk2dot-1]
After we disconnect from XFbb vk2dot-2 from BPQ32 vk2dot-1, reconnection to XFbb vk2dot-2 from the BPQ32 node vk2dot-1 will not occur.
on doing a n vk2dot-9  from BPQ32 [vk2dot-1] the following results -
1 0.00s 4 vk2dot-9

Then at other times we have noticed, The initial connection occurs sometimes and an ACK comes back - but BPQ32 will not connect to the node [vk2dot-9].
Most of the time no connection traffic occurs!!!!
Connected to the remote node VK2DOT-9 node is XFbb BBS [VK2DOT-2], & one has no problems connecting to XFbb from BPQ32 [VK2DOT-1]

We cannot work out why from BPQ32 we can connect to XFbb sometimes, but not the node in between.

Also, we have been told that the BPQ32 node [vk2dot-1] is not being broadcast thru AXUDP but can be seen on my remote node [vk2dot-9].

Anybody have any ideas.

Rod... I see DOTBPQ:VK2DOT-1 in the nodes list of MOBRA. I can connect to it okay using
c dotbpq. I can forward thru DOTBPQ to VK2DOT.

I do not see DOTBBS:VK2DOT in MOBRA's nodes list, but it is in DOTBPQ's nodes list.

I am using BPQ32 (n).  I see that you have not yet upgraded to the latest.
