If the RF frequency is unique, simply do not select that slot.

If the RF frequency is shared with other slots, just program one of the
tones to something that is not used - such as 3333 Hz. That way, it will
never activate.

You can simply program a frequency that has no tone outs on it like 137.0000
For the actual tone outs just enter in "0.0"
For changing the name to default go to "Edit Name" for the tone-out then
press ".." (2 dots) then press Eyes -> EYes

hi all, i hope there is a easy fix to this. i'm puzzled,
my scanner all of a sudden decided on its own today to only scan what seems to

o' and one thing i noticed is. if i manually turn the rotary dial and stop it on
a saved tgid. the text on the scanner cycles as it should, until is shows

MODERATOR'S NOTE: Reloading the firmware will have no affect, assuming the
firmware is already current.

Reload the firmware and try again.

Finally, I'm back up and running.
First of all, a tip of the cap to everyone who replied.
I eventually, after trying everything that was mentioned for me to do.
I also had to delete and rebuild the system/site and start it all from scratch.
So with the lack of sleep and the much needed help from
Jack daniels . It all working again.
Thanks,
Keith

wwilkie3999...

The screen on my BC346XT has gone blank.
I'm not sure exactly when this happened.
May have been when I was loading it using BUTEL XT, or not.
This is something I have done many times with no issues.
I also have the BC396XT and have had no issues with that one.

Using BUTEL XT Virtual Control, the radio works fine.
Everything displays as it should on the laptop display and the scanner works as
intended.
Just nothing displayed on the screen.
The backlight does work.

To date, this is what I have done in an attempt to rectify this issue.

I have done the Firmware update, again, numerous times...neg results.
I have done the "RESET" numerous times, again with neg results.

The scanner was purchased from Scanner Masters in November of 09.
Since then it has led a very pampered life on my desk.
Does anyone have any suggestions or steps to take?
Failing all remedies, I'm assuming that it is covered under the 1 year warranty.
If so, from Ontario in Canada, where do I send it for repair or replacement?

Thanks so much in advance.

Wayne

Hello,

Is it possible the Contrast Setting was inadvertently lowered in your scanner
file before you loaded it? Check your file and if the setting is zero, change to
8 and reload.

Thanks for the replies.
As far as the contrast, I have adjusted it manually as well as checking the
program file. It is set at 8 as you suggested.
Still blank, I did pop it open to take a look, no ribbon cables to come loose,
all plug in board connections are in place and tight.
I can't think of anything else to check or try so I guess I contact Uniden for
warranty service.

If it isn't that, I would say try to reset it, and if that doesn't fix
it, send it in for repair.

Thanks to whoever made this, it is a great improvement. I have a old BC346T and
if it was not for that I do not think I would have been able to get this thing
going using the cd that came with it.

Keith,

Just had the same thing happen to my 246. My post and reply below:

Here's my situation;

My 246 has a dead LCD. It can still be controlled by ARC246 software.

Dummy me tried a reset to see if I could recover my screen. Now I lost my baud
rate setting and am unable to use software.

Was hoping anyone with 246 can tell me after I hit FUNC 9, how many knob turns
to right or left to get baud setting, then how many knob turns right or left to
get 38400 setting?

Thanks in advance

Rich

So, step by step.
MAKE SURE THE TOP KNOB (SELECT KNOB) IS ON A CLICK
TURN RADIO ON
HIT THE MENU KEY (lower softkey on the side, NOT FUNC)
TURN THE TOP KNOB ONE CLICK COUNTERCLOCKWISE
PUSH THE TOP KNOB (SELECT KNOB) DOWN
PUSH THE TOP KNOB (SELECT KNOB) DOWN
TURN THE TOP KNOB (SELECT KNOB) ONE CLICK COUNTERCLOCKWISE (57600 BPS)
PUSH THE TOP KNOB (SELECT KNOB) DOWN
HIT SCAN

Now I know this is not a screen fix and am not sure 346 has similar settings,
just don't get caught with pants down like myself

Good Luck

Rich

Well, you might have to resort to the FTO Search feature. Or, ask in the
RadioReference Connecticut forum (maybe someone has the info but hasn't
contributed it).

I'm trying to program my BC346XT to monitor St. Lucie County, Florida's 800Mhz
system and having no luck. I have tried data from 3 different websites
including radioreference.com. Is there a trick to programming this type of
system or am I just getting bad info? I can hear control and voice channels
individually and can even see the ID's coming across the control channel but
that's it. Help!

Checking that system, all PD channels are digital...you'd need the BCD396XT to
hear them. Fire and EMS are analog, though.

Also, that system has rebanded, so it would need to be programmed as an 800
Custom with the appropriate rebanding band plans.

Most people who have this trouble are programming for P25 while you should
be setting the system as 800 type II.

Perhaps that is the problem. (assuming you are either in ID Search or have
the TGIDs programmed)

Thanks for the quick response guys.
I'm using freescan and have the system set for Mot Type II/P25 and all
the talkgroups have been entered.
Radioreference shows 21 frequencies (no channel numbers) ranging from
851.3125 to 854.775.
Another website shows 21 frequencies (with channel numbers) ranging
from 851.2000 to 853.7875.
I have also tried entering just the control channel (853.3)
As for rebanding- I have read about it but don't know where to start :-/
Could someone send me a freescan file to use as an example?

You were right on the money, Paul. I thought the firmware alone addressed
the rebanding issue. Live and learn.
Thanks guys and have a great weekend.

Hi all, my 346 did the same thing that it did last month or so.
And that is, it stops receiving anything that is stored in the trunked system(s)
/ site. When I press scan . On screen its the usual id search across the screen
it just dosnt stop on anything anymore. im using freescan. it happend when I
just uploaded a few new frequencies into my conventional system . Which is still
working fine. This should not be. I shouldn't have to
Delete and rebuild a whole system /site everytime I add a frequency.
I've the latest software update .
I download all the trunk info from radio reference.
And I use freescan for the software.
Any info on this frustration. I'd appreciate
Before I go all Mel Gibson on this scanner.
Thanks.

I would suggest a low (actually no) cost test would be to DL the bcTool+
software on the 20th when it's released and try reading the scanner with
that to see if there is something the FreeScan SW is not doing
correctly. Of course, there may be bugs in bcTool+ when it's first
released, but it is a no cost alternative.

I'm assuming you ULed to FreeScan but did not see any issues with the
programming.

Perhaps you could also UL a FreeScan file to the FILES section of the
group. Maybe that would be the best course first.

Put the "SYSTEM" in by hand, people rely too much on software and don't know the
workings of the radio....(Not refering personally to the person at hand)...My
scanner friend is using Freescan, constantly bringing me the scanner saying i
can't hear the local trunk system because i revised my programming....Well,
someone or some thing L/O todays CC thats why!!!....

I completely agree that everyone should know how to program their
scanner manually. I think a lot of questions would not be posted if that
were the case.

Your friend might want to make sure he reads the 'corrected' programming
back into FreeScan so he has a backup of the current setup.

Does your local trunk system change that much that it requires constant
reprogramming? Rebanding aside, I've never had a trunk system within 200
miles of me that required updated programming. As long as you have the
control channels programmed (both primary and all the alternates), you
should be set for many years.
