Not to argue, but there are no banks in the 346 or the 106. Someone may
label them as banks, but they are not banks - just as I can label a
channel "PD Encrypted" but that does not mean it is encrypted. The 346
has Systems and the 106 has Scanlists (21 of them as you have found).

As for your pending issue, assign a System Quick Key to those Systems
and you will be able to enable or disable scanning them as you did on
your older scanners - by pressing the corresponding number on the
keypad. You have 100 System Quick Keys, but only the first 10 (0-9) will
work as your older scanners did - by simply pressing the key.

Note that this is the System Quick Key you want to assign. There are
also Group Quick Keys, but forget about those for now.

Bank-2 Sheriff, Bank-3 EMS, Bank-4 Fire etc all the way thru Bank-8 Palmetto

didnt have banks. Mines got 21. Now back to question. Thanks MCH, but I knew
that stuff in 1976. Read all the RR Wiki and PDF files for 346. Just missed the
way to turn on or off banks. Program running good so I'll just give it back to
Grover and let him figure it out. Best Regards, Larry

WOW. A person cant think for himself on this forum. My Banks dont have a set #
of freq's. There ARE Banks in these radios if you set the PGM that way. If you
have WIN500 I'll email you several programs all having 20 each plus FAV's.
Because the Mfg says this is the way its going to be does not have to be
absolute. People can still think out of the box. Best Regards to all, Larry

As I said before, you can call them or name them whatever you want. All we are
telling you is that the 346/106 scanners have no banks as the term is defined in
the industry (a fixed number of channels grouped together). They both have
dynamic memory. You can argue until you are blue in the face, but one of the
people you are arguing with represents the manufacturer. Feel free to tell him
he doesn't know his product - especially when DMA scanners was his concept. ;->

Uniden has no banks in the 346 - it has Systems.

GRE has no banks in the 106/500. It has Scanlists.

If you want to call them banks, please do. But, please also don't complain about
not understanding the way the memory is organized if you continue to call them
something they are not. you can also call them banks in the text tags. That does
not make them banks.

Oh, and yes I have Win500, and I have to define the Scanlist(s) for every
channel.

You can think for yourself... until you start changing the names of pre-defined
items in the scanners.
When you do that, nobody will know what you mean.

Not to be picky or anything, but there are 22 Scanlists on the Pro-106. In
addition to the 20, you have FAVS (21) and Skywarn (22). You can put any
frequencies you want into the Skywarn scan, and you enable it by pressing FUNC
WX.

use. In terms of features and simplicity.

Hello,

The current version of BCTool cannot be used with the BC346XT so Freescan is
your only option of the two you mention. A new version of BCTool is in the
works but has not been released yet.

I PGM'ed a 346 for a friend. About 9 Banks. I used FreeScan. I had ARC but didnt
use it. Biggest problem I found is the File System. There are 3 places for Text.
Two [2] Flip/Flop on the top line and the 3rd is specfic for the bottom Line.
You must think very hard about the way you want the display to read. I
backloaded PGM into ARC after programming. Simular, not much difference. Good
Luck.

You'll find the DMA memory and programming much easier to understand when
you give up on the old terminology and listen to what experienced people are
trying to offer you. You ask for help and reject it from the most learned
member of the group (MCH).

I bought mine a few months ago and have used it sparingly.
So I have decided to sell it.
I have the box, manuals and everything that comes with it.
$180 shipped to Continental USA.
I have a 100% rating on eBay and will be putting it on there next week if no
one here is interested.

Thanks

I've been using Freescan for my 346XT love it.  I loved being able to import
the WARS system (EDACS) for Greater Vancouver Fire departments.  Works like a
charm, I'll definitley be sending in a donation.  Great software.  Using it
with a USM/DB9 converter

FYI, in most states if you purchase an item across state lines if that
item is available in your state then you must pay Sales or Use tax on
that item.

I can't speak for everywhere, but in PA and OH the law is that you can
only collect sales tax if you have a permit for the state, and you have
to have a permit if you sell *within* that state. Since the company I
work for has a presence in PA and OH, licenses are required from both,
and we have to collect sales tax for anything shipping to PA or OH
(provided an exemption does not apply - which it usually does).

I can also say from a buyer perspective, and knowing the tax law which
applies, you only have to pay sales tax if the company has a presence in
the state in which you are located in.

For example, if I buy from Radio Shack in TX, I have to pay sales tax
since they have a store presence in PA (IOW, they have a store in PA).
But, if I buy from say AES in OH, they cannot collect sales tax since
they have no presence (hence no license to collect sales tax) in PA.
But, they have to collect tax from any state in which they have a
presence (I think that's about six states).

The fact that someone else may sell the same item in PA is irrelevant.

There was a company who sold from CA into OH, and went to a show each
year for a couple of days. Yes, they had a temporary tax collection
permit. They got nailed on NOT ONLY the tax from on-site sales at that
show, but for every other sale they made that shipped into OH - even
those from CA. It very much hurt their company. The reason? They had a
presence in OH - even for only two days.

Question for a noob here. Just bought the 346XT, programmed it just fine with
freescan, and I have an external antenna (Hustler) for the car that works very
good and picks up a whole lot more than the "rubber duck" that comes with the
346XT.

If there a good or decent general use replacement for the "rubber duck"
antenna that comes with the 346XT? The external antenna for the car is fine
while driving, but too large to walk around with. Any suggestions for
something better, but something I can still walk around with?

I agree that the 800 MHz antenna works well, but not "picks up a whole
lot more" except on 800 MHz.

From what I've found, it does work much better on 800 MHz, a little
better on UHF, about the same on VHF, and falls flat on Low Band
compared with the stock antenna.

That said, I often use one.

There are other antennas that will perform better, but they are two to
three times the size of the stock antenna or 800 MHz antenna.

I agree, but I don't like using the BNC adapter. I use SMA antennas from
Scannermaster and http://www.wpsantennas.com/ in the same basic range but
they're not quite as good as the Radio Shack 800 MHz. Why oh why can't someone
come out with a comparable SMA version of it!

The Antennex DEXE821sm is similar. I use it and the bnc versions for a
cleaner look.

I used to hate the SMA (well, dislike it), but then I started to look at
it differently: When my BNC connector wears out, it will be much easier
to replace it than it used to be.

As for those who may complain about insertion loss, there is less than
0.05 dB of insertion loss (IOW, nothing to would ever be able to notice).

I do with the adapter were black (and yes, I know you can get them in
black) so it weren't as 'obvious' when you have a black scanner and
black antenna. But back on the topic, the 800 MHz antenna doesn't have a
covered BNC, so I guess I would have silver there anyway.

It's much easier (read: faster) to change antennas with a BNC than an
SMA, too.

Thanks for your suggestion. I got the 806-866 thinking that I could use it for
700 MHz if I get a 396XT or its successor. I don't have the 821-902 to compare.
I like the cleaner look too.
