While I reflect on how to deal with this without making this already very long newsletter much longer, I would simply direct you to their excellent site, at http://www.rscds-sf.org/. Thank you.

======= DANCE QUOTE ===========
When you take dancing lessons, you learn steps and you learn steps and you learn steps. It can go on for a long time. And then one day, you just learn to dance, and it is so different. - Bill Austin ==================================

I'm leaving again tomorrow for 3 weeks in Europe. This weekend is a Moroccan workshop in Emmelshausen in Germany, then I continue on to Catania, Sicily and Ljubljana, Slovenia for further workshops. I do hope to see many old and new students!
My performances last month in Germany were great...it was wonderful to see old friends, colleagues and students. Thank you to everyone who participated or came to watch...it is afterall for you!
The Göttinger Tageblatt wrote a nice article about my work that you can read here. And you can see the beautiful photos that my dear friend Daniel Fuchs took of the Göttingen Gala on my Facebook fan page (do sign up if you haven't already!) The photo of the Moroccan dance to the right is a small preview. There is also a lovely album of photos by Byron Dazey from the Seattle MEAI show in September that you can see here.
One of my yoga teachers Jim Weber wrote this little article about me on his website www.prescriptionyoga.com (scroll down to find it).
Please notice that my usual weekend in Rome this November has been replaced by a gig in Sicily. This might be worth flying down to and having a nice short vacation before winter really sets in!
For those of you in the rest of the world you can now register for year-long training projects starting in 2010 Göttingen, Germany (starts in January) and in the Bay Area (San Jose), CA (starts in May). You can find more information about intensive training programs here on my web page: www.helene-eriksen.de/trainingprogram.htm If you are interested in the training project in the Bay Area, CA starting May 2010 please contact Dakini at amitabha108@...
I am planning new dance study tours for next year: There will be tours to Georgia and Istanbul in April. (so you can start reserving your places now...this trip is getting more popular every year). I am also planning a summer trip to Marrakesh for the big folk festival in 2010...it will be wonderful to be going back there after a long hiatus. A new event will be a tour to Istanbul in June that I am planning with my nephew...an up and coming fashion designer. On this tour we will concentrate on traditional textiles and fashion...but also have plenty of time to explore some music and dance. More information about Dance and Culture Tours: www.helene-eriksen.de/tours.htm
Winter is coming and it is getting cold. I have revived my Etsy site where you can see my hats and get one to keep you head warm and colorful! Check it out here.
A new DVD is available of my dance ensemble ANAR produced by the Seattle Channel TV. Contact me for more information!
I have reprinted by Nailiyat Source Book. It is full of historical images that I have collected for years as well as texts about these fascinating dancing women of Algeria. If you would like to order a copy please send me an email or visit my online shop on my website.
Now is the time to plan your event for 2010 and 2011...so please contact me if you would like to organize a workshop or performance!!!
To find out more about the individual dance styles listed below, please visit the "Workshop Catalog" on my website. Helene

We know you need to make your plans, so how about planning to join us for New Years at Ashkenaz! This time honored tradition is once again shaping up to be another memorable night of great music and dancing- balkan style; a great way to ring in the new with family and friends new and old.
On the bill is Brass Menazeri. These guys are burning it up and attracting a whole new crowd to Balkan music. They have been so busy touring that we are lucky and delighted to be sharing the evening with them.

and Edessa. We'll be joined by several guests this evening. An exciting young violinist, Jessie Kotansky, is coming out from New York. He is steeped and deep into Balkan and near eastern music. We are really looking forward to boogeying with him again! Also, we're excited to be joined by vocalist Luka Primack. This last summer, we played a gig with Luka that was amazing. Luka is a compelling presence you won't want to miss! Not to mention Paul Brown, who is coming in from Nepal! We hear he has a new look ;)>, and as always, it will be a joy to play with him again.
http://edessamusic.com/
Also the melodious Joe Finn and Leslie Bonnett will be joining us this evening for a set of music for couple dancing, Scandinavian style. This dulcet duet sounds like a full orchestra! Bet they'll play some Cajun tunes as well.
And we are very excited to say that the fabulous Steve Kotansky will be joining us! Steve, a very well know and loved dancer and teacher in the Balkan scene is also coming out from New York for this evening. His knowledge and passion are legendary, and he has offered to do a little teaching during the evening. If you want to learn how to do it Balkan style, you couldn't get a better chance. Just having Steve on the dance floor is a lesson, and we are privileged that he will be joining all of us.
All in all, it's looking like a really fun evening....we hope you can join us!!!
