I (Leroy) am an African American disabled advocate, writer, poet and radio producer. I advocate, write and report of abuse against people with disabilities especially police brutality for over 12 years in the US. I sit on Idriss Stelley Foundation Board, Poor Magazine and Orgs.for People of Color w/ disabilities. Previouly involved in "Pushing Limits radio", KPFA 94.1 FM, Berkeley. I also write for many Black Newspapers such as San Francisco Bayview and am a music historian of disabled artists from the Blues to Hip-Hop
Violence against people w/disabilities, especially institutional violence like police brutality exists since pre-slavery times, but to this day there is a lack of avenues for our stories, keep a record and hold our community and institutions responsible.
Media, publishers, justice system, social justice organizations must learn about us, People w/ Disabilities. We need a safe place to talk! This is why Idriss Stelley Foundation and I, Leroy F. Moore Jr., set up Brown_Broken_Disabled_Bodies'. We also want, with your blessing to publish a book including your stories, essays, poetry etc. At this time there is no literature in the US focusing on abuse/police brutality against People w/ Disabilities (not only People w/ mental health disabilities) Through our research, abuse and police brutality against People with Disabilities has been on the rise but these stories don't make it to "mainstream media"! If they do, 9 times out of 10 there is no mention of disability.
