Tuesday night practice announcements are USUALLY echoed here on Ayreton's Yahoo group, but we occasionally miss it.

To be guaranteed to get practice information without having to subscribe to another list of "chat" (as our main household list can generate a lot of traffic in a month), you can subscribe to our "announcements only" list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thievesofhearts-announcements/join or send a blank email to <thievesofhearts-announcements-subscribe@yahoogroups.com> if you want to subscribe without a Yahoo account (for instance, on a device such as a cell phone) .

Hello and good tidings!
Can you please include me on your announcements list? I am a heavy list fighter fairly new to the area and looking to join in on your Tuesday night practices!

Any and all information to help me get in the swing of things would be very much appreciated!

Friends and fellow citizens of Ayreton, I'm delighted to publish the final list of challenges and prizes being offered at Twelfth Night on Saturday.  It's not too late to bring a finished piece, a work in progress, or a demo to show off!  Pre-register by sending me an email, or just show up day-of.  And performers, remember there will be a special performance time at 2:30 for your entries.  Looking forward to a wonderful display of arts and sciences work!

Final list of challenges for the Craftspersons' Faire!

Event Challenges:
- Populace bean count
- Best German entry

From the Event Steward:
- Best represntation of the Hohenstaufen arms in any medium
- Times are tough: Best project from repurposed materials

Laurel Challenges:
- Mistress Gianetta: Most awesome German garb from any time period

- Mistress Gianetta: Best performance piece

- Master Robyyan: A prize for the thing that, if it were dropped into its correct time and place in history, would attract the least notice because it just fits in.

- Dame Jocelyn: Best scroll blank inspired by a 12th or 13th century German Manuscript. Only documentation needed: the manuscript name, place or region, date or time period, and modern book or website where original found.

- Master Johann: I will have a special prize for that entry which reflects the most knowledge of animal husbandry! A bonus to any particular German Heritage breeds of livestock!

- Master Johannes: I want to hear a ten-minute lecture on some topic taught at the University of Naples or another real medieval university (like a summary of Thomas Aquinas' "Being and Essence" or something medical from Salerno) and I'll set aside some time to hear them, and I'll give the best lecturer an "academic" hood I've made myself.

- Mistress Ellen of the Scholars: Prize for Best Scribal Entry, chosen at my personal whim. Any time period or style is eligible, no documentation necessary.

- Mistress Sarafina: Best late-period (15th to 16th century) garb

We're looking forward to seeing all the wonderful entries!

Greetings unto the populace of Ayreton,

Despite the mild weather I am sure many think to the months ahead when the
heavy cloak can be put back in the closet. If your thoughts wonder to the
summer and Pennsic, you are not alone. It is to that end that I send this note.

If you are interested in camping with Ayreton this year, please see me this
Saturday at Tree-Girt-Sea's 12th Night, during the lunch hour (noon to 1pm).
This will be very informal so feel free to see me anytime during that hour. If
you are unable to attend, please send me an email off list at scribesquire (at)

I just want to let everyone know that unfortunately, the Chatelaine
Meeting that was scheduled for Tree-Girt-Sea's Twelfth Night event in
Ayreton (Chicago) is cancelled.  I realize that I cancelled the one at RUM
in November, as well, and apologize profusely.

My father is once again in the hospital and I will be unable to attend the
event.  I looked forward to meeting many of you!  We'll try again at
another event.

This only applies to the chatelaine meeting.  The Newcomer Social that I
was hosting will still take place.  Alternate hosts have offered to fill
in.

This is just a reminder that there is going to be a regional (that means hopefully lots of people) fighter practice for both rattan and rapier fighters tomorrow at Ida Noyes Hall at 2 pm.  We have the library and the lounge on the first floor.

Hopefully lots of people will be in for 12th Night from out of town and it will be a great practice with new and different people to fight.  Come on out and help us make them feel welcome.

Those of you who already are members of the SCA-Archery and/or MidrealmArchery Yahoo groups may have seen recent posts pertaining to the BoD's movement for an SCA archery newsletter, which will be posted with the other SCA newsletters and available to all sustaining members. This is happening.

Gaelen O'Gradaigh, Midrealm archery marshal of the field, has signed on as a Co-editor for the newsletter. He has sent the below message as a call for material submissions to help get this started.

Greetings to all my fellow archers SCA wide!!! I am Gaelen O'Gradaigh and I will be helping to set up the new archery newsletter that will go out with all of the SCA.org newsletters. My request is this, if you have articles you have written or illustrations you have created won't you please submit them for publication so that we all can benefit from them? I am attaching a Permission to Publish Consent Form. It can also be gotten off of the SCA.org website. If you would, fill one of them out and include with your submissions it will be greatly appreciated. Also could you forward this on to your kingdoms archery groups?

Dear Friends,

I am running the "40 years of the SCA" roundtable at The Festival of Maidens event this weekend. I have asked a few folks be on the panel, but I am looking for more people who remember how it was in the "olden days" of the SCA.

I am into my 23rd year in the SCA, and remember, as many other of us do, the SCA before the internet, email, cellphones. (How did we ever manage to get stuff done? LOL)

It would be awesome to find someone who was at Maidens #1, and to hear from others about how they joined the SCA, how it has made an impact on their lives, share some "no 5h!+" stories, if you lived in another kingdom, the amazing events you have witnessed, and so on.

So if you will be at Maidens, please join my panel. Check the schedule that day for room and time. Nobody wants to hear just me ramble, so come and share your stories about the past with me and the audience.

If you can help, please email me so I can get a head count. vrayhill@...

Thank you much,
--J

Unto all I give greetings.

I know a lot of people are going to Maidens for the weekend but Sunday practice is in the Cloister Club (big room on the first floor) of Ida Noyes at 2 pm.

Good Gentles,

This Sunday, January 27, at 4pm,
The Honorable Lady Bojei Temur will be hosting the first meet and greet for Ayreton's cooks. Feel free to bring your favorite period dish to pass, or modern snacks/beverages, as we discuss goals and possible projects for the group.

Experienced, interested, and even vaguely interested cooks are welcome!

Please email me privately for an address.

Hope to see you there!

Lady Kara Atladottir
