What's that? You say you shoot archery in the Barony of Ayreton...even in a part
time fashion? Well then if that's the case, please email me (at
"stoutmaker@...") with your SCA name, mundane name, e-mail address and
street address so that we can add you to the roster of the Ayreton archery
community for this years Domesday reporting and help show the rest of the middle
Kingdom just how healthy our archery community is.

Know a friend that you know shoots archery, please tell them to PM me with this
information.

I would like to have this information by next Monday , so please send this by
this weekend if at all possible, as I did not get a database of this information
from the outgoing marshal, so this will help GREATLY!

Thanks.

With 12th Night planned as our next court, we would be happy to entertain
suggestions for award
recipients.  We still need to be cautious in posting award names, as they are
still in flux due to the college of heralds procedures. However, we can specify
what is already a standard for our ‘pretty promissory notes’ aka awards given so
far, with names subject to change:

Orders (may be given out only once)

- Riain’s Star (Youth award—name has passed)

- Fighter award (all styles:heavy, light…)

- Arts

- Service

Awards (may be awarded multiple times)

-Service: one award- multiple types (current plan is up to 7), designated by
color. Current color
designations include Orange for troop support. Blue for general
help/toting/lifting hauling, etc.

We're also happy to consider other award ideas.
Please let us know your recommendations off-list.

A competition encouraging you to collect your old or worn out items, scraps and tidbits, and re-purpose them into something new. please let them know that there are some Newcomer oriented activities on
offer.
Details can be found at: http://www.hausadelbrecht.net/Newcomers.html
In the morning there will be a Newcomer "Tour" of the event hosted by
Countess Sir Fern and I will be hosting a Newcomer Social at lunch time. There are also some beginner classes in various activities that may be of
interest.
Please be sure to let your Newcomers know about these happenings.
Also, if any of you are planning on attending the event, I will be holding

Right up my ally I think.
Does this mean taking an SCA item and re-purposing it or taking a mundane item and making it into a new SCA item?

If I took Salvation Army coats and blankets and made an outfit is that the sort of thing you are looking for?

So long as the resultant item is one of SCA value and it is not to be used for it's original purpose, yes.
Also, the materials must be from your own stock, you can not have purchased new materials to make the piece.

For example, you take an old piece of Garb and use the materials to make a head piece.

Or you use a ladies old purse and make gloves from the leather.

My Lady Susanna,

That is outstanding news! Thank you so much for sharing that information as soon as possible! I have a feeling that you did some extra effort yourself, in order to get this schedule confirmed before January. Many thanks for your hard work!

This will be a  big help for the 12th Night autocrat--now he can post this information to the 12trh Night website for advance planning.

Have a good holiday, and I'll see you at 12th Night, as well as the day after!

best wishes,

Fern

From the event steward: A prize to the best rendering of the Hohenstaufen arms

From Mistress Gianetta: Most awesome German garb from any time period

Also from Mistress Gianetta: Best performance piece

From Master Robyyan: A prize for the thing that, if it were dropped into its correct time and place in history, would attract the least notice because it just fits in.

And of course an event prize for the best German entry of any sort.

Participants - let me know you're coming and what you're bringing! Laurels - there's still time to sponsor a challenge - let me know!

We'll do a day-of signup, although I'm glad to know ahead of time what you plan to do.  We'll do the Craftspersons' performance at 2:30, as the Faire and Laurel Prize Tourney wrap up at 3.

Question on performance: Will the performer need to sign up for the advertised concert in advance, or these pieces will be performed in a different setting with a day-of sign up or similar?

Cheers,
Margretha

The Laurel challenges have started to come in!

Good day!

I'm a 24 year old female larper from CT and considering moving to illinois. The SCA and similar groups is a big part of my life and must be an active group where I live. I currently am a part of 'Realms', a group with 100+ members, involved regularly in fighting, feasts, dances, etc throughout New England. I attend SCA events when I can but they aren't very common in my area.

I was wondering if you could tell me what the SCA / larping / ren faire community is like in the Chicago area (I will probably be in Glenview, I'm not not which sub group covers this) , or can direct me to someone who can. I'm mostly involved in the social events, enjoy dancing, archery, feasts, gambling, equestrian. I need to make a job decision soon, if your holiday allows it please respond when you can it'll greatly help me! Much thanks and a happy holidays,

Melanie

Thanks Your Excellency! I was talking to someone else yesterday and she said the same thing. Well, why not? Unless I get a LOT of feedback to the contrary, after New Years I will post it again: that we are meeting at Grey Gargoyles during fighter practice and all fighter widows and widowers are invited!  What time will fighter practice begin? Do I need to clear it with fighter organizers or anyone else?

Bring your angora!

Hello Melanie,
I am from a local area just north of Glenview and am very familiar with the area (my mom grew up in Glenview and uncle owns the house that their family grew up in).  The Chicago area is the Barony of Ayreton area and north of that is the Shire of Ravenslake.  Both areas play well together, have local events often, and you should have numbers of people who would be very welcoming.
In Glenview we have archery practice when the weather is nice.  We even have several very talented archers that not only make their own arrows but have even learned to make their own long bows.  So there is much archery for whatever you wish to learn or participate in.
Feasts, we have some VERY TALENTED cooks in our areas that make the best feasts.  If it is helping in the kitchen, serving, or just eating and being social they are a great time.
Gambling/Gaming is something that is done here.  We actually have an event in the spring that is all about gambling.  Period games, a pawn shop if you need to get more coin or see somethin that catches your eye that you would like to bid on at the end of the evening, betting on fencers, it is a marvelous event.  Stone Dog Inn.
There are other events that other groups have are amazing as well.  Not terribly far that you would be able to day trip to if you wish.
Bristol is our local ren faire that is just over the Wisconsin border about 45 minutes to an hour from Glenview.  It is a great time and I believe tickets for the season are currently on sale for $10.  Some of our local scadians actually can be found working there in the summer.
I am not too familiar with the local larping group so for that I will give you my friend Jorie's name.  She does have contact with some of the local groups and she is in the next town over from Glenview.

Hope this information has helped you.  If you need more information please do not hesitate to ask.

Happy Holidays
Keiley

As the marshal of the Sunday fighter practice, please consider it cleared and you all are more than welcome.  Fighter practice begins at 2 pm.  Shall we set up tables or chairs for you in a corner?

My only concern is that our room assignment at the school is inconsistent and we might not have a room at all on days when you are planning on coming.  I post our room assignment on this Ayreton list and also on a Facebook Group for Grey Gargoyles Sunday Practice (feel free to ask for an invite to join so that you can see announcements there), so just make sure you check that we have a room before driving out there.

Our first practice for the new year is the day after Twelfth Night, January 13th.  Hopefully we will see you there.

in service,
-Susanna the Short
