The Ayreton Yahoo! Group is used to post news, make announcements, and for
discussion of interest to all groups in the Chicago area. We encourage all
people of Ayreton to subscribe and receive email or digests, so although it is
not prohibited, please try to keep chatting to the local group mailing lists.

To prevent spam, we unfortunately require new members' first post be approved by
the moderators before being able to post to the mailing list. (This is better
than requiring moderators to approve every member or every post individually.)

The message archive and calendar are available to the public, not just to our
members, so please be aware of this when posting messages and calendar events.
Also, members can elect to hide their email address from being displayed
anywhere within the group. This is done so people who wish to maintain their
privacy can still get/view the announcements for the area. Members who choose
this option cannot post by sending email, and must log in to the Yahoo! Groups
page to post.

These policies are open to discussion, and any grievances should be brought up
to the group owners by sending email to ayreton-owner@yahoogroups.com

Discourse on this list is requested to be kept to Ayreton-wide issues such as
discussion on the Barony process, Ayreton Carnival and any other such area wide
issues. Discourse shall be kept civil as it is entirely possible to disagree
with out being diagreeable. Personal attacks of any kind and general rudeness
are in direct violation of this policy. The decision if a violation has
occurred is entirely at the discretion of the moderators. Violators will be
given three warnings and then banned from posting to the Ayreton Yahoo! Group.
Moderators will try to give polite reminders first before giving any official
warnings, however, this is at their discretion. Banning from posting will last
for three months and then the individual banned must draft an apology letter for
their behavior that led to them being banned. They will then be put on
moderated posting status until the moderators feel they will comply with the
posting rules of this Yahoo! Group. We encourage everyone to partipate in
Ayreton-wide discussions and express freely their opinions without worry of
reprisal from the moderators. We simply ask that you do so in a chivalrous and
courteous manner and without attacking anyone.

Howdy Ayreton!!

We have been remiss in sharing the great news; Ayreton is soon to have a new Pelican.

Mistress Gianetta (Andreini da Vicenza) was asked to join the Order of the Pelican at this past Crown Tourney!

Please congratulate her when you have the chance. She has represented Ayreton well and this is exciting news for the Barony. Details of her vigil and elevation are being worked out and will be announced as soon as possible.

In service,

Good Gentles!

We will have an impressive amount of people representing and dining with Ayreton
on Saturday night.
For those dining:

1. If you have NOT received an email from me confirming you have been counted,
you have not been counted.

2. Please bring your own chair. Tables encouraged, or you have a lap.

3. To keep from charging people, I need everyone to pool together the various
paper plates, cups, napkins, and flatware that are spread throughout the barony
sitting in closets and basements, yearning to be used. I will have some random
tableware. Please let me know if you hoard these things and can provide :-)

4. We will have water and something cold/flavored water of dome nature. If you
need something else to wash down dinner, bring it.

5. There will be plenty of food.
Chicken, pork, bread, corn on the cob, and sweet potatoes.
As well as various other sides and sweets from random people.

6. Food time is targeted for 6pm.

If there are any other questions, please ask. :-)

Greetings All,

Her Excellency Nadezda has graciously arranged meeting space for the June populace meeting to be held on June 24 at 12noon. We will be gathering at the Copernicus Center. There will even be a bartender on hand. (Bonus!) Okim, a Polish pilsner, is on tap.

The address is 5216 W. Lawrence in Chicago, just west of I-90, 2 blocks from the Jefferson Park Train station.

The meeting space will be through the main building entrance off the parking lot, inside on the right and to the right of the main bar.  There should even be a bit of extra parking in the main lot at the center.

The meeting coincides with the Jefferson Park Farmer's Market as an added bonus. There will be at least one food truck on site for ready made options if anyone wants to grab something.

Please let myself of Their Excellencies know if you have any questions. The major topic of discussion will be the officer selection.

To recap:

Who? Ayreton Populace
What? June Meeting
When? June 24 @ 12pm
Where? 5216 W. Lawrence in Chicago
Why? Officer selection and other business

All the best,

Sarafina

Thank you D'vorah for bringing that to our attention. The Copernicus Center is
far enough west of the parade route that traffic should not be an issue. For
those gentles who plan to attend both, the populace meeting is usually brief and
will give you plenty of time to enjoy the day's festivities.

The link from the Midrealm web page to the BS event page is not
working. Marie is trying to get it fixed.
Please pass the word that the event page can be accessed from the
Ravenslake web page. www.ravenslake.org

The canton of Grey Gargoyles is helping with a Demo on Saturday June 30 at the Blackstone Library of the the Chicago Public Library from 2:00 to 4:00.
Set up starts at 1:00. Any help and aid would be much appreciated. We need fighters, Craft demos, music, beautiful costumes, etc. There will be a lot of kids there so if you have anything that is hand-on please bring it. If you wish to help please contact Lady Gwen (Sally Jones) on the Ayreton list or call 312-747-0511(work # at library). The library is located at 4904 S Lake Park Ave in Hyde Park. There is only street parking behind the library on Blackstone (one way going north and accessed via 51st street). The library is well worth a visit. It is a landmark building and looks like a mini Pantheon with Greek columns and a dome. Also you can enjoy the Museum of Science and Industry and the Oriental Institute which are near by. Hopefully weather permitting we can do part of the demo outdoors. More information about the library can be found at www.chipublib.org.

Greetings,

As you may know, Xanti and I left the kingdom a few weeks ago to travel to the Golden Playnes to teach English.  We were sad to be leaving, but the opportunities that awaited us promised to be rich.

When we reached the Far West, we were greeted with smiles and excitement.  Despite the heat and some hiccups during our travel, we were very excited to be there.  After a weekend to settle in to our apartment, we spent a couple of days at the office learning some new information.  Whether through malicious intent on the part of the director of the program or not, our position turned into a bait and switch.  We had been told that our expenses while teaching would be next to none (we would have to pay for our groceries and potable water).  While working on our contracts and trying to solve the problems (caused by the university) with our work visas, we were informed of a long list of expenses we would have.  The other American there who has been teaching in Thailand for about 15 years now, informed us that "there will definitely be more expenses that [we'd] have to take care of, but the university doesn't even know what they are yet."

We did many calculations over the following days, with our monthly expenses from our student loans and needing to be able to afford a way to return home in a year, we could not afford all of these new expenses and had to return prematurely.

Xanti and I have returned to the Midrealm and are currently looking for work.  We have a couple of leads that we are following up on in the Indy and Chicago areas, we should be hearing back from them soon.  We are currently staying in Muncie while we search, though until we have an actual income do not expect to see us at many events in the near future.
