Also, it should be noted that there will be:
a pot-luck
dancing (prep for the 12th night ball & other dance events fast approaching!)
crafting (there might be scroll case making, and scroll blanks for instance)
schmoozing
a court etiquette class
greeting newcomers

While this will be an in garb event, don't feel you need to bring out your
finest, be casual, relax & have fun.

Additionally, donations for the church and/or it's food pantry will be very
welcome, as they've been very gracious in opening up their space for us
repeatedly for various meetings.

Support Arts Alliance Illinois

Dear Gary,

Do you believe the arts can change lives?

I do. I believe the arts strengthen communities. They support a strong democracy and bring us closer to one another. I believe the arts transform us every day.

Yet, in the first and only audit of arts education in Illinois schools, Arts Alliance Illinois found that one in five schools offers no instruction in visual art, music, theater, or dance. We have a lot to do to ensure every student in Illinois experiences the arts as part of a well-rounded education.

Donate!
We know arts learning helps young people prepare for success in school, work, and life. Students with high arts involvement are more likely to stay in school, earn higher grades, and perform better on standardized tests.

To help make sure all students in Illinois, no matter where they live, have the opportunity to discover and express themselves through the arts, we launched the Arts & Education Exchange this fall.

The Exchange is a free online tool that connects teachers and school leaders with arts providers who want to bring their programming to students who don't currently have access to the arts. Already, more than 250 museums, dance companies, orchestras, and theaters across the state have joined the Exchange.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Education and Community Programs / Todd Rosenberg

Will you help us make sure the Exchange reaches students in every school in Illinois? Will you help inspire children and teens through the arts? Will you help their creative spirits take flight?

Please make a tax-deductible year-end contribution to Arts Alliance Illinois at www.artsalliance.org/support/donate. Any amount will help us advocate for the arts in Illinois.

Thanks for all that you do,

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO FORWARD

Greetings unto you from Lord Ian the Green,

The Scribes of the Middle Kingdom are as honorable as they are creative and skilled and so with heart brought heavy by a need I write to you. The scroll blanks in the reserves of our regional signets and the Dragon Signet run dangerously low. Always have the artists and illuminators of the Middle Kingdom been making these needed scroll blanks for calligraphers to finish at Their Majesties need. The preparations and fighting of wars to keep our borders secure made it necessary to put away the pass times of peace but now in what respite we may have, our attention can, nay will, turn again to the pursuits best done in the absence of war.

The cry of, "Challenge," has been given so that the crown may be resplendent in the good works of our artists and illuminators. Challenge! was the cry and so it shall be answered. Pray you, take out the dusty box of paints, pigments and paintbrushes and make beautiful scroll blanks worthy of their Dragon Majesties!

You can find more information on this noble, worthy and honorable challenge here:

midrealm scroll blank challenge | ianthegreen01

You may have seen the missive that came from the Dragon Signet in the November Pale mentioning the need. Pray you, help fulfill it with good works, for the need is for scroll blanks worthy of the Crown to give them out.

If your skills are not with paint, pigment and brush but is instead with fiber arts we have need of your skills as well. Court scrolls need good protection on what can be the perilous journey back to one's abode. Scroll cases provide this protection and does so well. These are simple things to make but the need for them is as great as the task is simple. Never made one before? Fear not a tutorial is available here:

midrealm scroll case challenge | ianthegreen01

The challenge is to create a pile of scroll cases as tall as His Majesty and I have no doubt that the good populace of the Middle Kingdom can meet this challenge and perhaps even exceed it.

Populace of the Dragon, Populace of the Midrealm, we have until St. Valentines Day Massacre and Tournament of Chivalry on February 11 AS 46 (2012) to meet this challenge and I know we can do it! Entries can be turned in there. If you can not come fear not, send it with someone who is coming in your name and you will receive the proper credit for it.

Lord Ian the Green

I have collected 2 large shopping bags of cardboard flats to give away. Some
will have to be trimmed to make matched pairs, so I can bring a cutting board
and box cutters to do this.

A will also bring some fabric to give away and other supplies (elastic and
ribbon) for this. Bring your sewing machines and scissors. I can help get people
started on the scroll case project.

I will be bringing my scribal supplies as well, and if you want to try to paint
a scroll for the first time, I can get you started on that. Scribes--bring your
stuff as well!

What we're looking for in classes is anything that is hands-on, that you can do at a "demo" table, as opposed to "lecture" classes.  We're looking for hands-on classes of all types!  Fern is the class coordinator, and I'm sure she'll be glad to hear about class ideas.

Also, it should be noted that there will be:
a pot-luck
dancing (prep for the 12th night ball & other dance events fast approaching! )
crafting (there might be scroll case making, and scroll blanks for instance)
schmoozing
a court etiquette class
greeting newcomers

While this will be an in garb event, don't feel you need to bring out your finest, be casual, relax & have fun.

Additionally, donations for the church and/or it's food pantry will be very welcome, as they've been very gracious in opening up their space for us repeatedly for various meetings.

Good citizens of Ayreton, greetings!

As you know, we have four fantastic taverns planned for Twelfth Night!  If you're interested in serving and helping out, we can serve you a complimentary meal for the service you're helping with!  At this time, we need:

- Several servers for one of the Dinner taverns (starts directly after court, goes from 5:30 to about 7)

- Runners/expediters/washers/cleaners for both lunch (11:30-1) and dinner (5:30 - 7)

- Dish packers for after dinner

Let me know if you're interested in helping out, and I'll put you on the list and give you more details!

Thanks, and happy holidays everyone!

Good citizens of the Barony of Ayreton: Good Morrow to you!

I will be laying out the January issue of The Zephyr in a few weeks, and would love to include any stories, art, poetry, articles or anything else of interest from the good folk of our fair Barony.

If you wish to submit anything, please send them via email to me by 6pm on Monday, January 9.

The theme for this issue is SCA Resolutions/SCA goals for the new year. What do you want to change in or add to your SCA life in 2012? What new task or skill do you intend to start in the new year? Note that anything is welcome even if it is not related to the theme.

Please note that I will need to have on file signed creative release forms for any text, art or photographs that appear in The Zephyr. If you have any questions about this requirement, please contact me and I will do my best to find answers for you. Please see the Midrealm Chronicler page for links to the forms: http://www.midrealm.org/chronicler/

Hobby Lobby is carrying soapstone in pieces roughly 3" x 3" by 3/4", if
that's big enough for what you're doing. Look near the leather-crafting
supplies.

Unto the fyne populace of Ayreton,

Our Goode Cousins to the south in His Majesty Eikbrandr's lands of Sternfeld are
holding their annual archery competition, Better War Through Archery. It is
currently scheduled for February fourth.

Last year our fair Barony fielded 3 teams of 4. I would love to see this
surpassed this year. I feel very confident that we can accomplish this.

His Highness Savaric is scheduled to be in attendance, there may be Court.

Thank you for your time and efforts,

Happy Holidays
