I guess I could help out with youth activities - bring a few medieval
boards games and perhaps organise a game of stoolball, rounders, or bocce.

Who knows, perhaps my wife will volunteer too...(poke, poke)

I will be teaching my "Why You Shouldn't be Afraid of Calligraphy - How
easy it really can be," class on January 7, 2006 at the Ayreton A&S
that goes on concurrently with the Ayreton Fighter Practice.

This is the exact same class I was going to teach at R.U.M. before it
got cancelled.

Please feel free to contact me off list.

Please remember to send in at least ONE award
recommendation for all of our upcoming local events!

We will have our Crown in attendance at 12th Night
coming up and I'm sure there are many well deserving
individuals in our area that could and SHOULD be
recognized :)

It's easy to do, too! Just go to:
http://www.midrealm.org/op/recommend/

Signing up is very easy and you get a spiffy letter
sent off to the Crown when you are finished.

Greetings Good Gentles,

I'm just going to post the high scores for the Winter Challenge.  This is an ongoing challenge for all Society archers to keep their skills honed during the winter months.  Scores are lumped in all shooters and then divided my bow type.
As every Wednesday when we practice, I keep a running tally of our scores and submit them as the archers improve.  I hope that other groups are doing the same.  Some nights the range is empty and availible for more timed shooting, and other nights are very busy, as it's a public range, so it's a little hit or miss.
Draco Invictus!

Current High Scores:

Dougal MacAlister - 124
Jane Carlisle the Tall - 65
Sabah al-Rashid - 50
Iago normally comes weekly, but he's not been there on a night where the range is availible for scoring.  Hopefully tonight we can get some improved scores down.

Dougal MacAlister

Greetings all!

I just wanted to give you a heads up that our 12th Night site
(www.treegirtsea.com ) now has a full feast menu listing available. Personally,
it's making me hungry already. Remember it will run throughout the day, with
something available at any given time, each course available for about an
hour--so you needn't worry about missing anything due to a meeting, class or
other commitment.
If you are planning on attending feast or know people who are planning on
attending, PLEASE PRE-REGISTER right away. We are currently planning on selling
100 feast tickets, but we still have room to expand the feast to 125 if we know
we have enough paid reservations.
Details about making reservations, etc. are also available on the site.

Yours in Service,
Nadezda

Need to know from event stewards:
a) how many to feed
b) how many courses + dessert
c) how much to charge for b per person.

I gotta get going on a budget..... and lots of non-standard frozen birds are now in the supermarkets cheap from the holidays.

To make it authentic, I'm looking at a) spring foods, b) lenten stuff (barnacle geese?), c) venice is on a delta so waterfowl and fish would be easy to get.

Looking at free goose breast, could maybe get free freshwater trout. Would like to also do duck, lamb, perhaps rabbit and/or suckling pig.

Also want to do real semolina pasta (borrowing pasta makers would be nifty so we can make that a bit ahead of time).

Iago and Ottokar would be helping so far, as well as my brother and perhaps my sister for kitchen grunt work and Mistress Helene Gabrielle for recipe stuff.

I'll be at 12th night in Tregirtsea, happy to discuss.

Other Arts and Sciences are MOST welcome to come as well.

Greetings!

This is your once a month reminder that Ayreton Announcements can be found at the Ayreton News and Announcements, Yahoo! group.

If you, your friends or your group have an activity, demo, event or just something Scadian you want to invite others to just drop me a line and I'll put it in my weekly announcements.  If you want to know what is going on in the area this is your one stop shop for a lot of the activities in the greater Chicago area.

1 - I will only make full announcements to the Ayreton Discussion Group.  Its web address is:

2- The only other list I make announcements to is Fighting in the Neighborhood for the Arts Martial in the Area.  After all that is exactly what that list was created for!

3 - E-mails to you personal e-mail account can be done and happily so.  Simply send me an e-mail requesting the announcements you want to receive.

What is the Ayreton Yahoo! group?

The Ayreton Yahoo! group was the brain child of Lord Tedesco.  He created it so that anyone could make announcements from any of the 6 Ayreton SCA groups not just the Ayreton Towne Cryer.  It is also pretty much your one stop shop to find out the activities of the Ayreton Area as well as what is going on with the Ayreton Faire.

Okay so what ISN'T the Ayreton Yahoo! group?

It isn't a place for generalized discussion.  Please do feel free to make comments regarding your ideas and opinions on the Ayreton Fair and again, please feel free to announce your scadian activities as well.

What if I don't have a Yahoo! e-mail account?  Can I still get on the list?

Absolutely!  Simply subscribe by sending a message to
ayreton-subscribe@yahoogroups.com  The list is open to everyone without any need for moderator approval.  The owners of the list do reserve the right to change that should there ever be some kind of abuse.

Also if you do choose to post an announcement to the list that is great!  In order to stop the list from being Spammed to heck and back your first AND ONLY YOUR FIRST post must be approved.  After that you will never have to have a post approved.  Again we're doing this to cut down on SPAMBOT invasion.

So if I can get the announcements in my e-mail box are there any advantages to actually joining the list?

Yes.  Besides being able to make announcements yourself about activities that are of interest to you there are other advantages as well.

The Calendar.

Lord Tedesco has done a FANTASTIC job of keeping the calendar up to date with just about every activity happening in Ayreton.  Not only does the calendar give the times and days of the activities but it includes addresses and often directions or links to directions for each activity as well!  This could easily be your one stop shop for activities in the Ayreton area!  You can find the calendar by logging into the Yahoo! group or by clicking on the link below.
Lord Tedesco also went out of his way to build a links area that includes many midlands SCA groups not just Ayreton Groups.  This also includes the discussion groups for a variety of midlands groups including Ayreton Groups.

Photos

People are already populating the photo gallery!  Add your photos of activities as well.  Pictures of arts martial are great but so are A&S projects done or in the process!

The Ayreton Map.

Lord Tedesco took time to create a very cool looking map of the Ayreton area.  You'll see it every time you visit the Yahoo! group!

I continue to enjoy being the Ayreton Towne Cryer very much.  I am very greatful for the support and thanks that I have received.  I look forward to making the announcement process simpler and easier to access for everyone while eliminating excessive inbox e-mail on account of those announcements.

Lord Ian the Green
Ayreton Towne Cryer

This is an e-mail announcement from the Ayreton Towne Cryer. If you wish to have an activity, demo, event or other type of SCA get together announced feel free to contact me and request an announcement be made. After all the more people playing nice together, the more fun it is for everyone! Corrections can also be made but only if you help me find them.

The Cryer can be contacted at AyretonTowneCryer@...

If you wish to be taken off of the announcement please send an e-mail to the AyretonTowneCryer@... and put in the body that you are requesting to be removed from the announcement list.

The Shire of Grey Gargoyles is back to hosting the Garb Circle. We have lots of indoor space, tables and plug ins.  This is designed to be a place to give you a chance to work on your projects and perhaps even finish them.  This is a laid back approach with others there willing to help up but it isn't designed as a teaching experience.

Other Arts and Sciences are MOST welcome to come as well.

Along those lines calligraphy is being brought as well. This too is laid back and about getting your projects done but with someone there willing to help you learn and improve.

Hope to see you there!

We are hoping to have a wide variety of classes to encourage all members of the society - from non-members to Laurels - to learn something new, as well as improve people's understanding of the AnS side of the SCA. Our previous AnS Faire had 32 classes ranging from cheese making to riddles. Please help make this one as diverse. We have slots for 42 classes, and would like to have all of them filled.

Once again, the AnS Faire and Education Day, along with Ayerton's Carnivale is scheduled for March 24th at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL.  If
you do not wish to teach, come and take some classes and learn more about the AnS system, or even enter! Or bring your fighting gear as there will be heavy, rapier, thrown, archery, merchants and youth activities taking place at Ayerton's Carnivale.

What does the event flyer say?  I know that they have a bar there, so it's not totally dry.  And, it a hotel, so we can certainly drink in our rooms.  I think the issue is for those places like schools, where it is forbidden by law.

As I think of it, we were sipping drinks in the lobby area  last year, in full site of the main desk, and nothing was said.

I'd expect that the Mall part of the site is dry, being as that's, well, a
mall.

I can't remember if they serve beer at that hot-dog stand in-between the
mall and the hotel proper.

Quite right. We ain't New Orleans (dammit).

And the hotel is dry insofar as they want you to buy your booze there if
it's consumed in public. I suppose if you have a fancy type of drink, you
can ask if you can uncork it, but I rather imagine that the response might
be different if you asked if you could unbottle-cap that bottle of Ripple
you just got at the grocery store).

Nope. But a coffee shop has moved in for those people who prefer a
different type of liquid drug!

The original post was from Friday jan 12.  I believe ladyscribe07 - Eleanor was directing toward 12th night in TGS being in a school as well as the event where the containers were found.

I'd expect that the Mall part of the site is dry, being as that's, well, a
mall.

I can't remember if they serve beer at that hot-dog stand in-between the
mall and the hotel proper.

Or as a caution to everyone, for every event - know the rules of your site and follow them, take the mundane restrictions and regulations seriously if you want to keep your site.  Was about to follow up with something snide about no-brainers, but must remember to behave like a lady now } ; )

Ok gang,

Let me clear this up now, MAIDENS IS NOT A DRY SITE.  The info passed on regarding it was simply an FYI.  This was for LAST SATURDAY at 12th Night (TGS event) which was DRY

It is simply a good rule to remember regarding dry sites for the future.  In other words, if the event flyer SAYS DRY SITE, they MEAN IT.

See everyone at MAIDENS!!!

Eleanor

Maidens, discreetly wet, as long as you buy from them?  Hm.....ok.
