We'll be performing 3-4 songs, including some of our newest repertoire.

The Ayreton Yahoo! Group is used to post news, make announcements, and for
discussion of interest to all groups in the Chicago area. We encourage all
people of Ayreton to subscribe and receive email or digests, so although it is
not prohibited, please try to keep chatting to the local group mailing lists.

To prevent spam, we unfortunately require new members' first post be approved by
the moderators before being able to post to the mailing list. (This is better
than requiring moderators to approve every member or every post individually.)

The message archive and calendar are available to the public, not just to our
members, so please be aware of this when posting messages and calendar events.
Also, members can elect to hide their email address from being displayed
anywhere within the group. This is done so people who wish to maintain their
privacy can still get/view the announcements for the area. Members who choose
this option cannot post by sending email, and must log in to the Yahoo! Groups
page to post.

These policies are open to discussion, and any grievances should be brought up
to the group owners by sending email to ayreton-owner@yahoogroups.com

Discourse on this list is requested to be kept to Ayreton-wide issues such as
discussion on the Barony process, Ayreton Carnival and any other such area wide
issues. Discourse shall be kept civil as it is entirely possible to disagree
with out being diagreeable. Personal attacks of any kind and general rudeness
are in direct violation of this policy. The decision if a violation has
occurred is entirely at the discretion of the moderators. Violators will be
given three warnings and then banned from posting to the Ayreton Yahoo! Group.
Moderators will try to give polite reminders first before giving any official
warnings, however, this is at their discretion. Banning from posting will last
for three months and then the individual banned must draft an apology letter for
their behavior that led to them being banned. They will then be put on
moderated posting status until the moderators feel they will comply with the
posting rules of this Yahoo! Group. We encourage everyone to partipate in
Ayreton-wide discussions and express freely their opinions without worry of
reprisal from the moderators. We simply ask that you do so in a chivalrous and
courteous manner and without attacking anyone.

Hey folks,

I need to get the print order for Border Skirmish t-shirts sent in tonight. If you want to pre-order a shirt (the only way you can get long sleeves, or sizes other than L/XL/XXL), please order TODAY! You can use the forms available on the "t-shirts" bage of the Border Skirmish website - where you can see a mockup of the shirt - or drop me an e-mail to let me know, but I have to have it by 10pm tonight.

I will have only a limited number of short-sleeve shirts available for purchase on site at the event.

Thanks!
~Marie

Good idea Guy.

I've been so focused on getting myself ready for Border Skirmish that I hadn't given any thought to stuff like this. I'll be going up early Friday afternoon to set up my pavilion and I could bring a 12'x20' shade fly to set up beside the battle field.

If anyone has a wood table, that would be cool. That way if anyone wants to bring some snacks to share we have table for them.

Greetings,

Sorry for the late notice on this. The June Ayreton business meeting will be on Sunday, June 20th at Molly Malone's.

Yes, I know that's father's Day, but after some discussion with others, that seemed to be a better option that this Sunday which is when many people will be traveling back from Border Skirmish. And yes, the 20th is also the Sunday of Ragnarok Rampage, also a weekend camping event, but everyone I've talked with is day-tripping that event.

As you can see, nailing down the date and then location was a bit difficult this month. The second Sunday of July looks better, but it looks like August and September will need to be on the third Sunday as well.

I'll follow-up early next week with a full meeting announcement with the agenda and details.

Greetings,

We need more stuff for the Pennsic Gift Basket Project!

There's enough now for us to not be embarrassed, but we need more in order to make a really good showing for Ayreton. Even if you only have time or the skills to make a small contribution, every bit helps to showcase the breadth of talent and support that Ayreton has within it's populace.

Nicholaa will be collecting items at the June 20th meeting and through other arrangements up until July 1st. If you missed it before, the details of her recent email are quoted below.

Nicholaa has been good enough to offer to pick up my contributions, but in the
event that she can't make it to my studio in the next few days, I'll bring my
things there. I may try to bring a few more items as well, but I can't promise
-- it's a matter of whether I get my orders out and therefore have extra time to
do more things before then.

Dear Richard and All Ayreton,

Unfortunately the day and time set for the new Baronial Meeting is already the scheduled time for TGS's monthly meeting. This will be the second month in a row that the Insipiant Barony has scheduled over TGS. I am not comfortable with this situation.

I can appreciate that our Barony needs to set it's next few monthly meetings in order to avoid this conflict, however this month we must find another way. Perhaps we can schedule the same day - different time , same location. Whatever we do now it is important that we do it with respect for all the prospective Canton's schedules. Thank you.

Dear Juliana and Ayreton,

Please disregard the change of date and location that I sent out yesterday. I'll follow-up later when an alternative date and location is found.

Regarding the scheduling conflict with TGS's monthly meeting. I feel it is important to let everyone know that I did not mean to create a conflict and I didn't make the change without any attempt at communicating with the area seneschals. In fact, on June 4, I contacted all five current and three recent seneschals about the date and location of the next meeting. Neither of the two groups that haven't hosted a meeting in a while could get their locations for the 13th and because it conflicted with Border Skirmish, I asked them in a reply also dated the 4th about the idea of pushing the meeting back a week. I got no response from anyone, including the current or previous TGS seneschal, about any conflicts. So after three day, with time running out, I made the decision to go ahead with the 20th.

At this point I'm out of ideas on when and where to have the next meeting. I'm about to start an all day meeting at work, so I'll have to think more about that later tonight.

I'm sorry about the problems I created with this. I truly meant no disrespect.

Is there a way TGS can swing an earlier meeting at Molly Malone's? I really don't know, fellow TGS folks, so chime in. I'm willing to show up early. I feel like the Baronial meetings are pretty important at this point, so if it's a greater good sort of thing, we should probably go ahead and have the meeting.

Cheers,

Hi Eoghan,

I spoke with Richard yesterday when I returned from an unexpected trip out of town for a funeral (why I was unable to respond to his email) regarding the meeting schedule conflict.  He was not aware that the monthly TGS meeting is scheduled for the third Sunday of every month.

I also contact most of the TGS officers regarding options for the meetings.  We all felt having both the baronial and TGS meetings is important.  I emailed Richard last night to propose moving the baronial meeting to our TGS meeting location in order to accommodate both meetings and eliminate the conflict.

TGS is able to get our meeting site earlier to host both the baronial and TGS meetings on the 20th.  This is still a viable option for the baronial meeting if the other groups agree to the change.

We all understand this is was an unexpected meeting change and that no one intended to create any conflict or strife.   TGS members have been and will continue to actively support both our group and our barony.

Add to the items up for auction:
I'd like to offer four items for the silent auction. Each is a half-hour of
private instruction on material drawn primarily from Late 14th to Early
17th Century Italian Combatives:
- Unarmed Combat, Dagger, or Bastoncello (short stick) (historical combat
A&S only)
- Sword & Buckler
- Rapier (alone, with dagger, or with large cloak) (not applicable to
armored combat)
- Longsword
Depending on the winning bidder's preferences, I can tailor the instruction
for Historical Combat A&S, C&T, Rapier, or Armored Combat (with the obvious
exception of the first category). Content of the instruction to be decided
in discussion between the winning bidder in each category and myself. Date
of the instruction to be a mutually-agreed-upon future date for best
tailoring of the lesson to the individual.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3 crystal or cut glass caraffes (each have glasses)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and an assortment of other treasures!!!!!
Thanks for your time ~

Another something you can add:
A full heraldic achievement, including badges of all previously-received

Subject: [Mid] Award recs/scribal reminder

There have been a couple posts lately on updating one’s award recommendations. While you’re there, take the time to give complete info and some detail.

Why?

Right now, I’m finishing up the illumination details on a piece that’s going out this weekend. I’m sure it’s fine, but you know what? I hate it.

You know why? Because although this person’s friends were thoughtful enough to put in an award rec, they didn’t add any details. Like: colors on the arms, favorite colors, persona culture, time of persona. Nothing. Zip. Nada.

As the person doing the callig and illum on this one, I’m just so frustrated. I can’t personalize this in any way. Although the person for whom it is for is in my region, I do not know the person myself, and there’s no good way of getting background on the person without letting the cat out of the bag, as it were. I know other scribes get frustrated by this too—I’m hoping bringing the issue to The Bridge will help.

And out goes an award that, graphically, could be given anywhere, to anyone, in any kingdom. I hate that. Makes my teeth itch.

Prevent scribal angst! Add some detail when you recommend your friends for an award!!
