Thank you for bringing this up, Henry. I spoke to Ehrenfried on Saturday as well.

To all,

On May 15th there are two Midlands fighting events taking place: Greyhope's Chaos Caravan and Carraig Ban's Fighter Symposium. Originally I had intended the Midlands to scrimmage against Constellation at Chaos Caravan, but due to circumstances beyond our control we were unable to make that happen. Also, due to personal reasons, I am unable to attend either event.

As such, I am leaving the decision to you. If you go to Chaos Caravan there will be melee and Rowan will be running Midlands melee practice after the regularly scheduled fighting activities. If you go to the Fighting Symposium, I cannot promise that there will be melee, but since fighting is fighting, I am certain that you will pick up valuable skills as well. Lance Commanders, Sgts, Captains, and Knights, I ask that if you attend the Fighting Symposium please allow for some time for melees and instruction.

Either way, everyone have fun and be safe. Go Midlands!

All,

I plan on heading out from my house @8am to be down there. I've already got two
riders.

It's going to be dicy with the weather conditions being forecast as
thunderstorms for Sat. So we'll make the best of it. In any case it will be
fine Pennsic practice, so if you can make it, please come out and shoot.

Thanks

Cross-Posted to: MidBards, Fraziers Oak, Village Green, Ravenslake; please feel
free to forward to other groups.

Greetings to the talented folk of the Middle Kingdom!

Do you have a skill in the Arts and Sciences to share or display? Please join us
at Border Skirmish VII, at lovely Simmons Island Park in Kenosha, WI! We are
planning great opportunities for artisans of every interest and skill level.

• Classes: TEACHERS NEEDED! At least two tracks to run all day on Saturday.
Shady spaces provided – contact the class coordinators for other information.

• Artisan's Row: On Saturday during certain hours, we will also have members of
the public coming through the event on demo tours (as one condition of the
site's availability for rental, since it is a public park). During this time in
particular, it would be spectacular to have a good showing on the Artisans' Row,
with special efforts made to hide mundanities, using historically authentic
tools and materials, and also paying attention to such things as seating,
drinking vessels, clothing, and so forth. Come spend time together, encourage
each other to shine, and help show off portions of what we do to the public and
potential new friends! Even if you don't have a project of your own, you could
come along to talk about some of the things happening here, or to lend extra
hands to someone displaying! Check out Calontir's Artisans' Exhibition In The
Pennsic Marketplace for a wonderful example.

• Competitions: Two sponsored competitions, one for woodworkers and one for
would-be castle architects (and anyone else who enjoys the beach!).

• Bardic Activities: Musicians, storytellers, and entertainers of all kinds are
welcome to amuse and delight the populace throughout the day. The Saturday
afternoon pre-Court Concert returns, as does the Saturday night Bardic Bonfire.

The Border Skirmish VII website
(http://caeranterth.northshield.org/Calendar/BorderSkirmish/2010/) has more
details and contact information. The website is updated frequently, so come back
often to see the latest schedule.

Hope to see you there!

Hello Ayreton,

I've been asked by a lady at my sister's church, Plymouth Congregational Church
in Plainfield
(http://tiptopwebsite.com/websites/index2.php?username=plymouth_congregational)
if we can provide any demo support for the church's display during Plainfield
Fest, July 17-18. They asked last year, but it overlapped with Simple Day, so
the church developed and ran their "renaissance faire" on their own. This year,
if we can provide any support, they would love to have us.

Plainfield Fest actually runs for three days, July 16-18, but we wouldn't be
needed/expected the entire time. The coordinator said: "We will probably
participate on the Saturday and possibly on the Sunday, and from last year, it
probably won't start until the afternoon, as we didn't get much response in the
earlier hours. We have an area where you could do your demonstrations either in
front of the church steps or in the side yard – we have several tables set up
under a canopy where we sell items and baked goods. We would feature
demonstrations at whatever times you can give us, either set times (1 p.m., 3
p.m. 5 p.m.) or in one continuous time slot. We are simply looking for people
who will attract attention to our area, and events that we can advertise (Sword
fighting demonstration at 2 p.m!) in the paper and on our posters. We'd love to
have some music too, if that can be provided."

I believe we would be able to hand out SCA flyers as a recruiting tool - I can
confirm that with the coordinator.

Is there any interest in participating? I realize there is still quite a bit of
time before this would take place. I have never organized and run a demo – what
timeframe would be appropriate for finalizing our commitment and confirming with
the church?

If I can get a little input from someone who is experienced in running demos, it
would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Elianora Saunfayle

Anyone coming to the Elgin fighter practice today, can you bring various loaner
armor bits?

Fighter practice in Elgin is tonight from 5:30 until dark. It is being held at
Festival park, right downtown on Grove Street between the Grand Victoria casino
and the Road House restaraunt.

This is a friendly reminder that the A & S Academy/Demo/Moot is scheduled for Sunday, May 16.

The Demo/A & S Academy will take place at the Batavia Public Library from 12 to 4.

This is a great chance to share your skills and talents with us as well as potential new members.

I would also like to know how many fighters and fencers will be available so I can schedule specific 'fight" times into the day.

If you are available to bring items as a "show and tell" or to teach and/or fight please send me an email at Jeffnaggie@...

The address for the library is:

In order to promote better espirit de corps & cohesion; as well as help the

Pennsic:

It is Our wish that, with the exception of the General Staff and Regional
Command (CO's & XO's), that group & household battle units bear the livery of
their respective battle units and refrain from wearing the Midrealm pale. We
expect that the General Staff & Regional Commanders (CO's & XO's) bear the pale
at all times on the battlefield.

We expect that the pale be worn by all of Our Champions during the Champions'
Battles at Pennsic.

The purpose of this policy is to eliminate the "mixed bag" look of the Kingdom's
various battle units when half of the fighters wear the pale and the rest bear
the unit livery. Additionally, it's more difficult to maintain unit cohesion,
especially after first impact, when you cannot instantly identify members of
your own battle unit "on the fly". Moreover, reserving the pale for the General
Staff and Regional Command for the generality of battles, allows for better
location and identification of Our battlefields commanders since they won't
"blend in" with non-commanders.

This policy, in conjunction with Our demand that Serjants & Captains of the Red
Company conspicuously identify themselves as such, will serve the greater goal
of being able to identify Our General Staff, locate Our available situational &
tactical leaders, and recognize Our several group battle units.

We would like this policy to be fully implemented before Siege of Talonval.

The Ayreton Yahoo! Group is used to post news, make announcements, and for
discussion of interest to all groups in the Chicago area. We encourage all
people of Ayreton to subscribe and receive email or digests, so although it is
not prohibited, please try to keep chatting to the local group mailing lists.

To prevent spam, we unfortunately require new members' first post be approved by
the moderators before being able to post to the mailing list. (This is better
than requiring moderators to approve every member or every post individually.)

The message archive and calendar are available to the public, not just to our
members, so please be aware of this when posting messages and calendar events.
Also, members can elect to hide their email address from being displayed
anywhere within the group. This is done so people who wish to maintain their
privacy can still get/view the announcements for the area. Members who choose
this option cannot post by sending email, and must log in to the Yahoo! Groups
page to post.

These policies are open to discussion, and any grievances should be brought up
to the group owners by sending email to ayreton-owner@yahoogroups.com

Discourse on this list is requested to be kept to Ayreton-wide issues such as
discussion on the Barony process, Ayreton Carnival and any other such area wide
issues. Discourse shall be kept civil as it is entirely possible to disagree
with out being diagreeable. Personal attacks of any kind and general rudeness
are in direct violation of this policy. The decision if a violation has
occurred is entirely at the discretion of the moderators. Violators will be
given three warnings and then banned from posting to the Ayreton Yahoo! Group.
Moderators will try to give polite reminders first before giving any official
warnings, however, this is at their discretion. Banning from posting will last
for three months and then the individual banned must draft an apology letter for
their behavior that led to them being banned. They will then be put on
moderated posting status until the moderators feel they will comply with the
posting rules of this Yahoo! Group. We encourage everyone to partipate in
Ayreton-wide discussions and express freely their opinions without worry of
reprisal from the moderators. We simply ask that you do so in a chivalrous and
courteous manner and without attacking anyone.

Greetings from the Midlands Regional Commander,

Last weekend a good friend of mine with observed that some perceive the Midlands Regional Army as a fighting force for Pennsic only. At this time I would like to break this common misconception. The Midlands is a year-round fighting force that trains together and deploys where it is needed. We fight together at Gulf Wars in March, Border Skirmish in June, Simple Day in July, and of course Pennsic in August. We also take many opportunities to train at other times in the year.

As such, the requirements to be in the Midlands Regional Army are simple. If you consider yourself a Midlands-er (whether you live in Illinois or not) and you are an Armored Combatant or support person, you ARE part of the Midlands Regional Army. So if you fall under this category I encourage join the its email list and report in. Send an email to: Midlands_army-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to subscribe. There are a lot of important discussions and communique taking place on this list that you cannot read anywhere else. So when you subscribe be sure to log into Yahoo and catch up on the emails.
Thank you for your time.

Hello Ayreton,

I've been asked by a lady at my sister's church, Plymouth Congregational Church in Plainfield (http://tiptopwebsite.com/websites/index2.php?username=plymouth_congregational) if we can provide any demo support for the church's display during Plainfield Fest, July 17-18. They asked last year, but it overlapped with Simple Day, so the church developed and ran their "renaissance faire" on their own. This year, if we can provide any support, they would love to have us.

Plainfield Fest actually runs for three days, July 16-18, but we wouldn't be needed/expected the entire time. The coordinator said: "We will probably participate on the Saturday and possibly on the Sunday, and from last year, it probably won't start until the afternoon, as we didn't get much response in the earlier hours. We have an area where you could do your demonstrations either in front of the church steps or in the side yard – we have several tables set up under a canopy where we sell items and baked goods. We would feature demonstrations at whatever times you can give us, either set times (1 p.m., 3 p.m. 5 p.m.) or in one continuous time slot. We are simply looking for people who will attract attention to our area, and events that we can advertise (Sword fighting demonstration at 2 p.m!) in the paper and on our posters. We'd love to have some music too, if that can be provided."

I believe we would be able to hand out SCA flyers as a recruiting tool - I can confirm that with the coordinator.

Is there any interest in participating? I realize there is still quite a bit of time before this would take place. I have never organized and run a demo – what timeframe would be appropriate for finalizing our commitment and confirming with the church?

If I can get a little input from someone who is experienced in running demos, it would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Elianora Saunfayle

Just to clarify -- I was just now looking at the calendar on Midrealm.org, and
it looks completely fabulous by the way, but I didn't see the Ayreton Arts
Academy listed there. Does anyone know if the event will be posted there, and/or
if it has a website to which I can direct all my minions and slaves, er, Twitter

As this is a small local demo it will not be listed on the midrealm calendar, nor is there a website.  The information that is needed is mainly the address for the demo and moot and the times.  I'll resend my reminder email to Ayreton in a few minutes.

Thank you,
