Your pardon good gentles and populace of the Great Middle Kingdom.Though I have made multiple announcements in recent times this will be the last time I run this announcement.  It is rare that I make announcements that blanket all the Ayreton Groups as well as the two main Midland Groups.  Today it is with sadness and hope that I make the following announcement.

As you may have heard on October 19, 2006, around 2:16 a.m., Lord Aldred of Ascalon (modernly known as V. Scott Tepe) lost his fight with cancer and the subsequent complications of it.

Lord Aldred leaves behind a loving wife, Lady Aline of Bamborough (Teri), and three beautiful children, Kyle 10, and Cassandra and Melissa, 5.  He also leaves a large family, both biological and chosen....he was well loved by many of us.

Services have already been held for this passing.  It has been asked that  you please call Acelina, and not Teri, during this time.  She is in touch with the family, and can relay messages.  Acelina's home phone is (630) 378-5413 and cell is (630) 803-0217.

At the Vanished Woods, All Souls Event, their will be a Memorial Bake Sale in honor of Lord Alred of Ascalon, the entirety of all moneys received shall go to his surviving biological family.  A donation jar will be at the table.

It is asked that all who may to come and join them in this worthy cause.  All Soul's is held November 4.  http://www.vanishedwood.org/all_souls_day/

In this vein all those who are willing to donate an item to the bake are encouraged to do so.  Already donations of brownies and fudge that have been offered and the hope is to have others as well.

Please contact Jenna at lttlems1@... to coordinate donations of baked goods for this worthy cause.

Lord Ian the Green
Ayreton Towne Cryer

This is an e-mail announcement from the Ayreton Towne Cryer. If you wish to have an activity, demo, event or other type of SCA get together announced feel free to contact me and request an announcement be made. After all the more people playing nice together, the more fun it is for everyone! Corrections can also be made but only if you help me find them.

The Cryer can be contacted at AyretonTowneCryer@...

If you wish to be taken off of the announcement please send an e-mail to the AyretonTowneCryer@... and put in the body that you are requesting to be removed from the announcement list.

Don't forget we're meeting at 4pm at All Souls to discuss the Ayreton event.  We've got some important stuff to make decisions on-- such as sponsoring groups, event stewards, and issues with the site/date...  We don't have a place for the meeting set yet, but I will post something at Troll as soon as I find out.

Hope to see everyone who's been supporting this so far there!

Sorry, I messed up did not include the reasons for the badges. You are right about the hand under the table and the pizza.

The first one celebrates the REAL official animal of the area: the Construction Horse (gold (yellow) horse across a black stripe extending into the distance). Yeah, I know, perspective is right out in heraldry.

Oh, a question to all of the fine heralds out there. How is wind depicted in heraldry?

Greetings one and all,

I'm sending this missive on behalf of the Foxvale demo
co-ordinator. She's been approached by a scout group in Darien
(southwest suburbs - not too far beyond I-294) about a Friday night demo
on the 17th. They've specificly asked for a fighting demo, and we won't
be able to supply any fighters.

If anyone else wants to and can take this over, please let me know
ASAP. We just found out they need a definitely response by this Tuesday
(the 7th).

     Thank you for your time,
                    In service,

Greetings,

Angus Fraser has found us a demo opportunity next Saturday. The
Scouts are having a training academy for leaders next weekend, which
folks from most of the Ayreton area. We've got people to help with
"gold key" garbing and the basics, but we're still looking for fighters
and marshals who are willing & able to help.

If anyone can join us in Aurora next Saturday, please let me know.

                       In Service,

Hello all,

This January, I will be moving to Oak Park, and I was hoping to maybe
get to know some of you a little (by e-mail) beforehand. It's been a
while since I've done anything in the SCA, but I'm very interested in
improving my sewing/garb-making skills and I know for sure that I'll
be attending calligraphy nights with Henry of Exeter. I also have a
7-month-old daughter (9 months in January, of course) so it'd be nice
to meet some of the other parents in the area.

If anyone is interested in introducing themselves, I can be reached at
wirestars @ yahoo . com

I look forward to meeting you all in January! :)

Thanks,

Everbody please come join us for Renaissance Dance Practices. Everyone is
welcome to come and learn a variety of styles of dance from many countries and
times through the European Renaissance.

**Fall Location and Schedule**

Practice is at the University of Chicago for the rest of 2006; see below for
details on the location. As in our previous message, if you are interested in
coming to practice any time, please send us your mundane name, so that the
University Security folks at the dorm know to expect you. We are planning to
have practice on Tuesdays on a regular basis.

Schedule: 7 to 9 pm
November 7 (we are still working out the schedule for the end of the
semester)

Location: University of Chicago Campus, Burton-Judson dormitory, 1005 E. 60th
Street.
http://maps.uchicago.edu/south/

We are in the Lounge, which is on the far side of the building. Go across the
1st courtyard into the second, and diagonally across the second and up the
stairs (about where the "L" in "Law" is on the map).

If you have problems finding or getting in the dorm, call Caillech (Caitlin) on
her cell (510) 520-0969, and she'll help you out.

*** UNIVERSITY SECURITY POLICIES ****
Since the current location is a dorm, remember that we need to respect the
University policies. So far, we haven't had any trouble working with them. If
you would like to come to dance, please do the following:
** Send your mundane name to ctulloch AT uchicago DOT edu (Caitlin) to be on the
member list.
** Bring a picture ID with you.
Check in with the people at the front desk, and tell them you are with the dance
group. We are keeping the list of names for the whole semester, so you can come
to any practice. Send us your name even if you just think you might come (you
are not obligated to come, but it's FUN!!). One of our student hosts should be
at the front desk to direct you to the proper room, or call Caitlin.

**Other details**

You do not need to bring a partner to dance...
Everyone from the Chicago region (and beyond) is invited...
You may dress in street clothes or in garb...
Beginners and Experts, as well as anyone in between, are needed and welcomed...

Welcome, Ysabelle!

We do hope to see you at our 12th Night event on
January 13th, and/or at the "Regional Fighter
Practice" the following day at Ida Noyes...(hey, does
anyone know if that's a confirmed site?). There are
always lots of non-fighters and non-fighting
activities going on at the Practice - it's a lot of
fun!

On a more personal note, my husband and I live just

get back into the swing of the SCA :)

The big news that we talked about at All Souls was changing the event date.  Unfortunately there was a scheduling conflict at Glenbrook North High School that the athletic department head didn't know about.  (Who is just as unhappy with this as we are!)  We lost use of the three gymnasiums on March 31st, but still could have the fieldhouse.  This unfortunately meant there would not be enough space for both a regular event and the Regional A&S Faire.  April 7th is Easter weekend, bad weekend for some, and April 14th is opposite Pentamere's Regional A&S Faire.  I checked on March 24th, and we can again have the fieldhouse, the three gymnasiums, hallways between them, some classrooms, and locker rooms with showers.  Other than it being only a week after Gulf Wars, there was no objection to moving the event to March 24th.  This change has yet to be committed to the Kingdom calendar, so if there is any further comments, please discuss them here.  Otherwise we're going to work quickly to get the date reserved on the Kingdom calendar, at which time we will put in the bid for the Regional A&S Faire.

Does the Ayreton event have a name yet ?

I know from previous posts there has been talk of a theme, but perhaps
we can start asking for ideas and suggestions from the townsfolk.

So to start the ball rolling, how about "A Windy Day in the City" or
simply "A Windy Day in Ayreton"

Not yet.  I think we DID decide to theme it around Venice, so stick to those lines...  Venetian Nights, Carnivale, or something like that.  The current name on the calendar, "Ayreton Fest I" is just there for a place holder, but we DO want to stress that we want it to be a semi-regular event, not a one-off.  (hence the "I")

So, should that be "A Windy Day in Venice?"

Greetings to all the brewing enthusiasts of the Midrealm,

I am sorry I was unable to teach the brewing class at All Souls this past weekend. As I am sure you all understand, I was needed elsewhere. I truly wish I wasn't. That being said, I understand there is some interest in brewing.. I want those interested to know that I am always willing to talk brewing whenever and whereever. Please feel free to e-mail me if you would like to arrange some hands on brewing. I have extra equipment available, a limited amount of space in my basement, and a dream of building a brewing guild within the Ayreton area, and eventually the Kingdom. I don't envision anything too structured at first, just an excuse for people with like interests to get together and learn about the hobby from others. If there is enough interest, I will start up a new yahoo or google group.

I am mostly self taught, and am as willing to learn as I am to teach. Drop me a line so we can get started.

I for one am interested in brewing....ever since I studied microbiology at university.

I know that there are others in Vanished Wood who are interested. The Shire also have a stack of equipment hidden in the basement of one of our member's home.

Our problem has been not having the space to brew. Fortunately my wife and I have just bought a home in Montgomery, and we plan to put the extra space to good use. The Shire "stuff" will hopefully be finding a new home.

I can set up a yahoo group if you so wish, and see how many people wish to join.

Hello Jale (and others),

If all goes as planned, Henry of Exeter and I will be at 12th Night
for sure. At the very least, it is certainly on our "to do" list! I am
fairly sure I'll need to borrow some garb, though, as I really don't
think I'll be able to finish my own dress in time. I've read through
some of the other posts and it sounds like that isn't too much of a
problem.. I will keep my fingers crossed, though. :)

As for your baby, congratulations! I hope all goes well, and I look
forward to meeting the two (three?) of you. :)

Best wishes,

Henry's Ysabelle

I've been "experimenting" with Cordials, which is sort of like brewing, and would appreciate an occasional "guild" meeting to swap samples and recipes, and tips.  If you're thinking about doing it, count me in.
