Dear Seamus,

Thank you VERY MUCH for volunteering to use your skills and equipment for story recording and photo scanning for the XL event.

This is an activity that was extremely popular at the Calontir 25th Anniversary earlier this year, and it has the potential to be the highlight of our event, too!

You and I will need to have more discussions about what, exactly, are the important prerequisites for good recording and which location in Ida Noyes will be most suitable, and how many people you will need to help out. We can talk better in person, or off-line.

If we are very, very fortunate, there may be additional people with recording skills and/or equipment. I hear that it may be useful to have two or more recording locations! And, or course, there could be a huge number of old photos to be scanned!

Thank you very much for volunteering! You have relieved my mind considerably, because I really wanted to have the opportunity to record the stories of our history!

yours,

Fern

I was wondering if the XL celebration is also, as noted on the Midrealm
Calendar, Coronation? I was wondering, because this isn't reflected on
the event website, and I was curious as to the activities around that.
Thanks!

Hello all,

Just a reminder that there is a practice this Sunday as part of the Ayreton Arts Academy and baronial meeting.  Here is the info:

Roselle United Methodist Church, 206 S. Rush Street.
Roselle, IL 60172

(Same site as All Souls Event last year).

Time: 1PM (note, NOT 2pm as usual).

If you are going to be there and you are a marshal, please let me know.  It looks as if we will be able to do authorizations there IF we get enough marshals.

Dear Hilla,

Yes, indeedy, the XL Celebration is going to include Coronation! This decision was confirmed in June, and the event website is just a little bit behind on the updates. The MK calendar, the August Pale and the other kingdom newsletters for Aug have the complete info.

I need to make new flyers, however.

Their Highnesses were extremely pleased to have the opportunity to have their Coronation in a setting so beautiful as Rockefeller Chapel. Due to the regulations in Kingdom Law regarding the September date of fall Coronation, there were a few formal steps that had to be taken in order to make Oct 3 consistent with Kingdom Law. Those steps have been completed.

We can look forward to a fine, big event! What a great opportunity for the Barony of Aryeton!

in service,

Fern

Master Sean o’Shaughnessy sends his warmest greetings to the populace of the Incipient Barony of Ayreton!

Yesterday afternoon, we held the most recent Baronial Charter Committee meeting.  Purpose of yesterday’s meeting was to develop draft text for the Baronial Charter.  We had a most successful meeting!  Congratulations to all those who helped prepare the draft text.  We are almost finished with our Charter!

Attached you will find the draft Ayreton Baronial Charter.  We had drafted text for Section 1 last March and it remains unchanged to date.  Yesterday, we worked on text for remaining sections, sections 2 through 5.  You will see the decisions made by the Baronial Charter Committee since March in the attachment in italic – Arial – 10 point font.  The draft text is shown in Times New Roman 11 point font.  I will upload the draft charter to the Files section of the Ayreton website shortly.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please send them to Sir Robyyan.  He is trying to determine required length of the next meeting (1 or 2 hours) scheduled for the second Sunday in September.  There will be no meeting in August due to Pennsic.

I remain in your service,

Sean

Hello Everyone!

As those of you who attended the recent Baronial meetings know, we - Jane the
Tall (Jennie Tyderek) and Anne d'Aix (Lynda Fitzgerald) - are organizing support
for the Ayreton fighters attending Pennsic.

We have gathered a lot of the supplies we will need and we have offers of help
from some non-fighters who will be at War. We have talked to fighters to find
out what kind of support they need and Susanna the Short has provided us with
badges so we will be easy to find on and off the field.

Now we need your help. Please let us know if you are willing to help either on
the battlefield or in preparation. You should know that we have positions
available for everyone, regardless of your physical ability or knowledge of
fighting.

For those of you with more money than time, while we have personally provided a
lot of what we will need in the way supplies, we still have a lot we need to do
this properly. We need things like duct tape (grey and colored), gatorade
powder (not red), gallon sized "ziploc" bags, markers, pretzels, pickles, and
olives. But most of all what we need is volunteers and money.

If you think you might have an hour or two at Pennsic you could devote to
supporting the Barony's fighters, please contact one of us. If you can't be
sure of your availability until you get to War, just let us know where you're
camping and we'll stop by to check in with you.

We would like this to be the beginning of an effort that will grow with the
Barony and continue for many Wars to come.

Greeting All!

As a refresher, one of our requirements for advancement to Barony is that we
state our expectations for the Landed Nobility of Ayreton.

What have other groups done?

Mostly they have about a half page document – five to ten points – that lists
what they would like the Baron and/or Baroness to do. They are what you would
probably expect – things like "Support the Barony, Attend Baronial Meetings,
Encourage Growth, Attend Baronial Events" and the such.

As I mentioned in my last email about this part of the Baronial advancement, we
would take any opportunity we could to start talking about these expectations.
Specifically, in-between the Charter Meeting and the Business Meeting.

Our Charter meeting for July ended early so we took some time to start
brainstorming. Below are the results of what the assembled people came up with
for an initial draft.

We will meet again at the before the September Business Meeting at 5 pm. Please
attend if you are interested in the topic. You may also forward me any comments
you would to be shared during the meeting. Comments should be sent by the
Friday before the meeting.

Please read and consider! We need everyone to be involved to please share your
thoughts!

See you soon,
~philip

*INITIAL DRAFT* Expectations of the Landed Nobility of Ayreton *INITIAL DRAFT*

These are the expectations of the Baron and/or Baroness above and beyond as set
by the governing documents of the SCA and the Middle Kingdom and as set by the
Crown of the Middle Kingdom:

• Hold Baronial Court
• Attend event sponsored by Ayreton and by the Cantons of Ayreton
• Attend events outside of the Ayreton area including local, Kingdom, and Known
World events where they will act as representative of the Barony
• Have a Baronial Presence at any event that they attend
• Inspire the Baronial troops
• Inspire endeavors in the arts and sciences
• Inspire ongoing service
• Inspire courtesy and chivalry through their own conduct
• Encourage growth
• Encourage ceremony

We can also add that this list is not a limit to the expectations of the landed
nobility.

Join the Merry March to Sherwood at Pennsic this year.

The Midrealm joint Populace shoot is at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. And remember, you can borrow someone else's gear to shoot (as long as they're cool with that).

So, if you're not an authorized Heavy fighter or Rapier fighter, you can still contribute to the war effort and help the Midrealm earn a war point. Or just do it for the hat. Either way.

Greetings felow Greenwood members,

Yes, Pennsic is just around the corner.  Due to the schedule at Pennsic, archery is kind of on one day.  To try to accomodate this see the below message.  This may be a great showing for archery.  If you can spread this message it would be a great help.  I look forward to seeing you sometime in the hectic schedule that we will all hold.

Greetings all -

In an effort to introduce the Midrealm Populace to the new archery range at Pennsic 38, and at the behest of Their Royal Majesties, a "March to Sherwood" is being held.

The only day to shoot the Mid/East Archery war point is Tuesday of War week. The plan is to have everyone involved meet and LEAVE Midrealm Royal at 3PM in a grand fashion and march over to the archery field to shoot the war points in the spirit of the Adventures of Robin Hood (1938 with Errol Flynn).

Travel with the Merry Men and Women of the Midrealm - the first 50 people who show up at Midrealm Royal for this event will receive a Robin Hood hat - complete with a feather - as members of the Company of Merry Midrealmers.

There will be a way station halfway to the range to supply water/gatorade on the way there and beer on the way back, similar to the picnic sometimes held after the Woods battle.

Prizes will be awarded for the group that brings the most archers and to the group that has the highest total war point score.

Duke Palymar, Jarl Lutr, Jarl Ullr and I hope that you'll bring your friends, family, Barony or household -- here's a great opportunity to join with your fellow Midrealmers in service to the Crown and Kingdom in an occasion to remember!

Cheers,

Count Alaric

Good citizens of Ayreton!

Looks like there's some more medieval films in the works:

Yesterday at Simple Day, several of us Ayretonians travelled down and
had a great day. Some congratulations are in order, even:

The Thieves of Hearts were, as usual, the heart and soul of the rapier
field, defending their honor against all comers, and hosting what
promised to be a killer party on Friday night.

The Pippins did a nice set (if I do say myself) of our usual period
songs just prior to the start of court.

Several Ayreton members were named to the Rapier Champions' team, but
since that list has not been published (merely announced at the
event), I can't say as I recall who all of them were.

Two Ayreton fighters were named as Unbelted Champions of the
Midrealm! Sabah al Rashid and Henry of Exeter will take the field
with 43 of their brothers-in-arms on Sunday at Pennsic, immediately
after opening ceremonies, to combat 45 of the Eastrealm's finest. On
the following Friday, those 45 heroes (our two among them) will be
joined by 15 more alternates (including myself), to fight alongside 60
Eastern unbelts, against 120 champions assembled from the rest of the
Known World.

I trust the rest of you had as great a time as Tacit and I did!

role-playing exercise for people who may be thinking of running for the B&B
