Whilst thou art beginning thine Spring Cleaning this weekend - as I am sure that thou art - please consider donating small, "like-new" SCA/Medievally-themed items that thou art not using for use as prizes for the Ayreton Carnivale midway games.  (Didst thou know that the term "midway" came from Ayreton's own Midway Plaisance, used as the main carnival area for the Columbian Exposition of 1893?)  We hope to have many people winning tickets as they play the games, so have much need for rewards to give unto them!

Items donated thus far include baskets, belt pouches, small games, jewelry, brass goblets; we'd like to see some traditional stuffed animals (what's a carnival without winning a stuffed animal??) as well as any decorative items.  All SCA folk collect things - why not recycle things not being used?

If you have anything you can contribute, or have any questions, please contact me off list.

Many thanks!

In Service,

Isabel of Kenniston
Shire of Rokkehealden

Sain Bainu!

Somebody out there has got to know (or know somebody who knows) how to do a woven chair seat.

Go ahead, snicker if you will...I have a bottom that needs caning.  Seriously.

It's a very nice ladderback chair that is otherwise sound, but the seat is woven of something grasslike and is shot.  Help?

I believe you can get pre-caned seats at a hardware store.. I seem to remember seeing those once..  Of course, they'd have to match the outline of the seat you already have, so my advice may or may not be useful in that regard.. : )

cheers,

Good Gentles,
Announcing the formation of the proto-incipient Canton of Elv av Tiden in Elgin, IL!

We are forming a new canton in Elgin, IL, as an offshoot of Carraig Ban.  Elv av Tiden means "River of Time", in reference to Elgin's famous history as a watch factory town.
We will be holding business meetings once a month on the third Thursday of the month at the house of Lars the Lean and Ealswyth of Jorvik (Todd Martin and Babette Colburn) at 7 pm.
The current meeting location is just for the near future, as Elgin Community College is in the process of approving meeting space for us.

Paging the autocrat or other appropriate personnel for the Rose Tournament,
please. There does not seem to be contact information on the event web site.
(names and pictures, are there supposed to be e-mail links?)

Also, the web site doesn't actually say *where* the event will be.

I may be interested in merchanting, but I need further information. :)

I finally made it over here and so far everything is good.  The weather has been sunny and in the high 80's or low 90's everyday with a nice breeze coming off the gulf.

I am missing all my SCA family back in Ayreton and especially in Foxvale.

Thank you so much.  I will happily and joyfully put your name down as servers.  Would you be so kind as to send me both of your SCA names for the list?

You will receive feast for free prior to us serving so that should help lesson your initial costs for attending the event.

Thanks again for being willing to give your time.

Hillary

greetings to the citizens of The Incipient Barony of Ayreton.

I am Myrddin O' Aberdoughladdif , aka {Roy Sherrill}

I am Moving into your Area From Jararvellir in Northshield and am seeking advice
on whee to look for a place to stay and what activities are available for
someone new to the area. I have been in the SCA since april 83 and have lived
all over the known world from Antier, Caid, & Western Seas, to Trimaris, the
East and even Drakenwald. I am Disabled and in a Powered wheel Chair so am more
into the A&S, Crafting, Armoring, Chainmail, Fiber arts, and Cooking than in the
Martial skills. The closest i get is archery and Building Siege Engines.

I have Been inactive for a couple years do to my scooter being broken and lack
of assessable Transportation services in Madison Wisconsin. i am getting a new
Power Wheelchair today and will be moving to Chicago on or around April 1st. I
will be traveling to Chicago on 3-17 or 3-18 and will be there for a few days
apartment hunting. the time frame depends on when i can find an affordable place
to stay during and after my search.

I am seeking advice on where to look and where to avoid for wheel chair
assessable accommodation both for during my apartment hunting and permanent
accommodation. I am Transferring my SSDI and Section 8 to the chicago area so
have to find a place within thier rules for long term. mainly i am seeking
someplace that would allow me to get active again in the SCA rather than being a
prisoner of my apartment like i have been for the lats 2 1/2 years.

if you can give me some pointers please call me at (608) 824-0548 Home or

I know there hasn't been any formal planning for a fundraiser, but I just happen to have this basil-infused vinegar that I made - 11 bottles of it - that needs a new home. Would anyone else have stuff to contribute to a small raffle? We can say it's for the Baronial Regalia fund, or Royal Travel Fund, and I'll run the raffle at the gate on Saturday.

Sounds like those of us who were able to make it to Gulf Wars have returned

A few of our friends and neighbors even received honors while we were away.
Their

Please congratulate them next time you see them!

Try a search on youtube.

I would direct you to one but I do not know what kind of weaving pattern you need.

Angus' ears perk up as sombody mentions woodworking. ..

Woodcraft has all of the tools, supplies, and reference's on how to do caning. Check out this link:

http://www.woodcraf t.com/search/ search.aspx? query=caning

The retual stores are in Woodridge just off the 355 tollway and on Dundee road at 355.

The task is not difficult, especially with the correct tools and supplies. I am not certain, but using cane and other woven techniques is period as well. You could teach a class! ;>

Help?
