It appears that this will be a monthly email sent to the Middle Bridge. If
you're hosting an event and want to verify it will be in the Pale, this is the
place to check.

I can forward each month when I see it come through if people want me to.

Subject: [Mid] "Pale" ads for February 2009: AUTOCRATS PLEASE READ

Greetings to all from Azrael ben Shemhazai, editor of “The Pale”!

Please forgive the shouting letters in the headline, but I wanted to get
people's attention, as the system I'm creating doesn't work unless it's
read!

Ensuring that every ad submitted to me gets properly placed in "The Pale"
is of utmost importance. This is why I have the receipt system to confirm
each and every ad that is sent to me.

However, I'm creating a new level of protection to ensure that each ad is
correctly placed -- every month, around the end of the first week, I'll
post the ad list to the Middlebridge. This will be done after all ads have
been placed and laid out, which means that what I'm listing here is
essentially what's ready to go to the printer.

If you’re an autocrat for an event and you have submitted an ad for the
February Pale, please check this list carefully to see that it is correct.
If anything is wrong – particularly if you have sent me an ad and received
a receipt letter, but it’s not in this list — please contact me
IMMEDIATELY, at pale@... or 317-396-9122.

For the February 2009 Pale:

Okay, just wondering if we have enough of us (they do teams of 10) to make up a
Team for this year's Girls Night Out scavenger hunt at Gulf Wars.
http://gno.condoinhell.com/

Sounds like silly fun and a Middle Kingdom (or even Midlands) team would be a
great way to get out on Monday night.

I'm volunteering to be Team Captain, so email me if you want to join in! Please
feel free to forward.

Smiles,
Jale

First, let us apologize for the breadth of this posting.

Youth Combat will be held this Saturday at the Kingdom 12th Night at Tree Girt Sea at the Irish American Heritage Center (IAHC) in Chicago.  This will be a Rose Tourney where the youth combatants will fight for our most Gracious Roses.  We will have tournaments for all three Youth Combat Divisions and for our Youth Armored Combat division, if we have a sufficient fighters.  The single combat tournament format will be communicated at the event.  Note, this will be a tournament where chivalry will be paramount!

The Youth Combat list will open promptly at 1:30PM in the IAHC Social Center for combatants/parents to sign in, armor inspections, authorizations, and time permitting, a special fighting class to be given by a member of the Chivalry.  The tournament will begin at approximately 2 PM when the meeting of the Order of Pelicans is scheduled to be completed.  Due to a very tight schedule for Their Majesties, Their Highnesses, and other activities at 12th Night, we must make sure that all youth combatants are ready to fight at 2 PM!  Also, we need to complete the tourneys by about 3PM so the room can be reset for Performing Arts at 4PM and for Court at 5PM.  Youth combatants participating in the tourneys will be called upon after the tourney to help the event staff turn around the room for subsequent activities planned for the room.  This service includes removing all youth combat armor, weapons and shields from the Social Center at the end division’s tourney.  Note, the Social Center will also be used as the Populous day site.  Event staff will make sure that we have adequate floor space to provide for a list field of sufficient size to ensure both combatant and Populous safety.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you this Saturday!

Yours in Service,

Mistress Acelina and Master Sean o’Shaughnessy

A list of people that have received payment for services rendered to the
SCA inc. I’m not just looking for just amounts over $600 since I know
there are some that have done work in multiple kingdoms such as Virginia
Punkari who makes and repairs crowns, etc.

1. If the payment is a reimbursement for a bill they received such
as web hosting then I don’t need that info

2. If the payment does not have a split between materials and
service then I do need that – ie – Joe submits a bill to the
kingdom/group for repairing the thrones but doesn’t state how much is
labor and how much is materials

3. If the payment is to someone for teaching I do need that.

The local exchequers can email me directly at exchequer@... with the
information by Monday January 19th.

Greeting All!

One last reminder to volunteer to help out at Maidens. Some of us
agreed that it would be a good idea to offer our services as Ayreton
to the Shire of Wurm Wald for their event Festival of Maidens.

We got a couple of names at last business meeting but would be great
to have more if we can.

Please email off list if you can make the event and you are willing to
volunteer.

~philip

Here is the email with information about volunteering.

Greetings, my lord Philip!

Thank you again for the offer of volunteers from those within Ayreton
who will be traveling to Festival of Maidens. At this time, we are
looking for volunteers to help with Troll, Greeting, and Herald's
Point. The shifts are split into one-hour time slots, though of course
anyone is welcome to sign up for more than one shift.

We would like to get contact numbers where we can reach volunteers on
the day of the event if possible, or the name of someone who will be
onsite whom we can ask to find you if we need to. This list will be
shared with other potential volunteers, so in the event that we have
more than one person sign up for the same time and task I may be in
touch to ask about the chance of rescheduling.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Again, I thank you and
the nice people of Ayreton for your kind offer to participate in
making Festival of Maidens an enjoyable event for everyone involved.

Hi All,

I have a crash space offer for Friday night but would prefer to travel
with someone who is coming from Indiana or would be willing to swing
by Hammmond, IN to offer a ride at least to the event as now I think I
may want to just day trip it.

I can get myself home, or at least to the train. Or I can meet
someone at either Randolph & Michigan or Van Buren & Michigan.

So any day trippers from Indiana I would gladly welcome and I would
cover gas.

Thanks,

Eleanor

Hi Gang,

Looks like more and more that I will not be able to attend 12th night
unless I can snag a ride for the day as its simply too hard on me to
lug my stuff through the snow. It would be appreciated if anyone is
coming from Indiana and just going for the day or if staying for Feast
can offer a ride to and from my house.

I would gladly pay gas, I had planned to crash in town but getting
there is just too hard in the snow. If your going my way I would love
a ride.

Howdy All!

I just wanted to share the below message that was sent to Middlebridge
and the Village Green.

I think of course all of us will be fine. (And happy it is no longer
below zero!)

And I'd say remember to budget time to make sure you can shovel your
drive way or unbury your car from the snow and still make it to the
event when you want to.

Please reassure any of your friends traveling that we expect
everything to be fine and that the city is pretty safe to drive in.

See everyone soon!
~philip

Greetings All!

For those who will be traveling to Tree-Girt-Sea this weekend for
Kingdom Twelfth Night, here is what we expect for weather and travel
conditions:

In the Chicago area, you should be expecting cold weather and a little
snow.

Friday and Sunday, we are expecting cloudy skies but no snow and that
should be good for traveling.

The best news is that we look to have only a few scattered snow
showers on Saturday, the day of the event.

For those who haven't been to Chicago often the city does an
excellent job of plowing and salting the streets to keep them clear.
You should not have any trouble driving in the city proper, though I
will ask that you be careful and watch out for other drivers.

*And* for those who can't live without their coffee: the closest
Starbucks is at 4776 N Elston Ave, Chicago, IL (773-282-9503). That's
only about three blocks away from the event ... but I will leave you
to map your best route.

Travel safe and see you this weekend!

This year, many baskets will have been donated by area individuals, guilds, and
Shires. We are eagerly anticipating the lovely treasures that will be brought.

Thank you all for your support,

Greetings all,

This year, in the Barony of Illiton, The Rights of Spring will be titled : The Birds and the Bees.  Naturally I'd wish to teach.  Is there anyone who plans to attend and can get me there and back?

The "Fighter Basket" contains two Lego knights, a length of fabric suitable for fighting pants or maybe gambeson, an arming cap, a warm wool hood,  a half-dozen matched brass buckles, some fighter munchies, a book of historical armor, and a roll of duct tape!

Additional contributions would be welcome, such as rivets, rattan, knee pads, tabard, gloves, leather belt, tape for marking sword edges, or anything else you can think of. (especially for a beginning fighter).

See you Saturday. Stay warm!

Why does attendance make a difference? If there are only 2 people there, you can still socialize & work on stuff. People look forward to Fiber Arts Night.

Greetings!
Reenactorfest 5 will take place February 6-8 at the Westin Chicago North Shore, Wheeling IL. (near Chicago )Hours are 3-7 Friday, 9-6 Saturday, and 9-2 Sunday. Site fee/admission is $20 for one day, $25 for two days, and $30 for three days.
There will be an information booth sponsored for the SCA, and I hope to have Chatelaine info available, and I ask all groups to either give me information (fliers) about your group/activity, or give me the info and I'll put together fliers. I would like to have small scale, individual demos at the both all day if I could (well, during Fest hours). I will need people to be at the booth in garb to al lest talk SCA and hand out fliers if you are not doing some art or science. Bring A&S projects, demo drop spinning or lace making, metal weaving, leather work, calligraphy & illumination...whatever it is that you do in the SCA.
Sign up (by posting to me at "alexdeset"at"aol.com") for a time period during the Fest (3-7 Friday 6 Feb, 9-6 Saturday 7 Feb, or 9-2 Sunday 8 Feb). One-hour blocks are convenient, but if you want to be there for more time, just sign up!.
I posted the entry fees above, BUT if you are an SCA volunteer, your site fee is only $5 per day!
Please let me know before 1 February, so I can get a list of $5 fee people to the Reenactor Fest admin folks.

Also, there is to be a short "Pas d'Armes" on Saturday 7 Feb from 12:45 to 1:45. I would like to invite some folks with excellent looking kit inhabited by veteran fighters to contact me to sign up for this event. It will include SCA rattan combat and SCA cut-and-thrust fighting in a "Pas d'Armes" setting. Once again, please contact me at "alexdeset"at"aol.com") before 1 February if you want to participate. Same $5 site fee per day applies (ok, the "Pas" is only one day, but you might want to go to the Fest on more than one day!).
Respectfully,
Alexander de Seton,
Some Guy From Ravenslake
