If you are a leader of a local activity group, please take a moment to verify
that your meetings are on the calendar and that the information is correct.

Most of the Ayreton Yahoo! Group features, such as the Photos, Links, and Files

The Ayreton Yahoo! Group is used to post news, make announcements, and for
discussion of interest to all groups in the Chicago area. We encourage all
people of Ayreton to subscribe and receive email or digests, so although it is
not prohibited, please try to keep chatting to the local group mailing lists.

To prevent spam, we unfortunately require new members' first post be approved by
the moderators before being able to post to the mailing list. (This is better
than requiring moderators to approve every member or every post individually.)

The message archive and calendar are available to the public, not just to our
members, so please be aware of this when posting messages and calendar events.
Also, members can elect to hide their email address from being displayed
anywhere within the group. This is done so people who wish to maintain their
privacy can still get/view the announcements for the area. Members who choose
this option cannot post by sending email, and must log in to the Yahoo! Groups
page to post.

These policies are open to discussion, and any grievances should be brought up
to the group owners by sending email to ayreton-owner@yahoogroups.com

Discourse on this list is requested to be kept to Ayreton-wide issues such as
discussion on the Barony process, Ayreton Carnival and any other such area wide
issues. Discourse shall be kept civil as it is entirely possible to disagree
with out being diagreeable. Personal attacks of any kind and general rudeness
are in direct violation of this policy. The decision if a violation has
occurred is entirely at the discretion of the moderators. Violators will be
given three warnings and then banned from posting to the Ayreton Yahoo! Group.
Moderators will try to give polite reminders first before giving any official
warnings, however, this is at their discretion. Banning from posting will last
for three months and then the individual banned must draft an apology letter for
their behavior that led to them being banned. They will then be put on
moderated posting status until the moderators feel they will comply with the
posting rules of this Yahoo! Group. We encourage everyone to partipate in
Ayreton-wide discussions and express freely their opinions without worry of
reprisal from the moderators. We simply ask that you do so in a chivalrous and
courteous manner and without attacking anyone.

The Ayreton Yahoo! Group Moderators

I have a Viking embroidery machine that I believe could produce some of these.  I would be very hesistant to say I could do them all for two reasons:  1) I'm not totally sure it will work (although it automatically came up on my curent software for my machine, so there's a really really good chance).  2) Time required.  However, I will try in the very near future to play around with it, and see what's up.  If there are others out there with similar machines (and it's in a ton of different formats), maybe we could divide and conquer?

I know I have an embriodery machine that takes .pes files, and I know a few others in the group also have a machine that takes the files listed on the website.

Dear Aryeton,

Who remembers the embroidered patches with the Midrealm populace badge on them? The round patches, with a red pale and a dragon?

Such patches have the potential to be great site tokens for the 40-yr celebration. I asked the Kingdom Seneschal about them, but she is unfamiliar with their source and origin.

So now I'm asking  Aryeton people, because I'm sure that there is somebody on the list who knows the answers, or how to get the answers.

Who manufactures the patches? Who distributes them or sells them? How much do they cost to manufacture and how much lead time is needed?

Thank you very much for your help!

yours,

Fern

I have a contact at a patch embroidery company that does a lot of business with my Boy Scout council. If you would like me to, I could email a copy of the badge and get a quote for quantities.

They do good work, are fast and pretty cheap (.50 - 1.60 per patch.) Let me know off list.

Acelina,

That's great to know that your machine can do that kind of stuff! Let's keep it as a backup plan.

If the Kingdom Exchequer will order Midrealm commemorative patches for us, that's my first hope. I sent him email today, so I expect him to be thinking about it before the Curia on Jan 17.  Because I anticipate needing 600 patches for the event (maybe an overestimate, but I wouldn't want to run out!), I would hate to make such a major committment among our Aryeton people.

I'll keep you posted when I have some data about the patches.

Thanks!

Fern

Greetings

As we are going to have many Royals visiting for 12th Night on January 17th, we find ourselves in need of retainers for Royalty and guards for the Royalty room.  We are currently expecting Their Majesties and Highnesses of the Middle, Their Highnesses of Northshield, and Her Highness of Ealdormere.

Any interested parties should contact me and Mistress Sarafina.  We will sort out who and when.  Please also let us know if there are any specifics (i.e., you are teaching and/or taking a class or need to do something at a specific time) so that we can try to work around these, if possible.

Thanks for helping!

Perhaps I missed it, but where are the notes from this session
posted? According to Phillip, the next charter meeting is only a week

your last missive on the subject to indicate where or when they were

Greeting All!

At our last business meeting we agreed that it would be a good idea to
offer our services as Ayreton to the Shire of Wurm Wald for their
event – Festival of Maidens.

I have been in touch with the event steward and they are very happy to
have our help. It sounds like they could very much use our help.

I'd like to gather together everyone's information who is willing to
work at the event and send it on to her. You can either email me off
list to volunteer – or you can sign up at our business meeting on
Sunday. Both will work.

Yeah Ayreton! And yeah for being good neighbors!
~philip

Below is her email back to me:

Greetings, my lord Philip!

Thank you again for the offer of volunteers from those within Ayreton
who will be traveling to Festival of Maidens. At this time, we are
looking for volunteers to help with Troll, Greeting, and Herald's
Point. The shifts are split into one-hour time slots, though of course
anyone is welcome to sign up for more than one shift.

We would like to get contact numbers where we can reach volunteers on
the day of the event if possible, or the name of someone who will be
onsite whom we can ask to find you if we need to. This list will be
shared with other potential volunteers, so in the event that we have
more than one person sign up for the same time and task I may be in
touch to ask about the chance of rescheduling.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Again, I thank you and
the nice people of Ayreton for your kind offer to participate in
making Festival of Maidens an enjoyable event for everyone involved.

Greetings!
Once again I am asking for help with a Blue and Gold banquet in Elgin.  Presently, it is me, my 4 kids and one other Ayreton member coming.

One of the scouts saw a previous SCA demo and requested us.  His mom searched us out!  the details in full....We can use both fighters and nonfighters.  And you can come to either or both parts of the evening.

February 21st
5:30-need some members to be there to greet the families as they arrive (can get into the school at 5 if needed)
Afterwards, we are welcome to partake in their feast of (probably) fried chicken and a party sub with dishes the scouts will bring from home.
Award ceremony
7ish start with the SCA fighting demo (you can come for only this part if you wish)-my 4 kids can be there to do youth fighting if Acelina or Sean (or any other youth approved marshal) would come and marshal the fight.  We also need heavy fighters and rapier fighters to add to the program!

the lady in charge is getting ready to decorate.  She needs an answer so she can plan something else if enough people cannot attend on that night!

She is wanting to put together a program of the names of those fighting (which doesnt mean you cant come if you decide later!).  She would like to include real names and SCA names if possible and some description of the fighting that is being demonstrated.

Thank you!

Anna

Remember I need everyone's help consuming alcoholic beverages, can't take those to a Muslim country.  :o)  Also everyone needs to raid my house like a bunch of marauding Vikings and take things not going to the UAE.

Well, I could claim it was a quiz to see if anyone noticed. (I'm glad someone did!)

Or I could talk about unexpected life events that sucked up my time in December and early January.

But the fact remains that I didn't get the notes posted, or the agenda for today's meeting in anything like a timely manner.  My apologies, I'll try to do better.

The next two postings are the notes from last meeting, and the agenda for the next one.

Robyyan,

Perhaps I missed it, but where are the notes from this session
posted? According to Phillip, the next charter meeting is only a week
away. I checked in the files section of the Ayreton Yahoogroups site
but didn't see them, and I have seen no follow up on the list since
your last missive on the subject to indicate where or when they were

We agreed the charter should include text to state explicitly this precedence of
law:

Modern, SCA, and Kingdom laws all take precedence (in that order) over
anything stated in the charter.

We then had a long discussion on membership. We agreed that the term "members"
of Ayreton is reserved for paying members of the SCA, Inc. who reside in the zip
code boundaries of Ayreton as defined by the SCA, Inc. The official officer
positions required and recognized by the SCA, Inc. are reserved for members of
Ayreton.

We then discussed a more general definition, which we at times called "citizen"
and at times called "resident". The decision on the term was "resident", which
means people who are part of Ayreton, whether they are paying members of the
SCA, Inc. or not, and whether they live within the zip code boundaries or not.

We agreed that residents of Ayreton should have a voice in officer selection.
Major event staff positions (that are not required to be members by the SCA,
Inc.) should be held by residents. We said there are no participation
requirements to be considered a resident, and there are no requirements about
being a member of SCA, Inc. We left for future discussion whether there should
be any awards reserved for residents of Ayreton.

[[Special note from Robyyan: I'm not happy with the way I moderated this
discussion, and I'm not entirely pleased with the results. We will revisit this
topic if other people are in agreement.]]

We discussed meetings, agreeing that Ayreton officers should meet monthly in a
public venue. Minutes of the meeting should be published. There should be a
populace meeting at least monthly as well. We agreed the charter will not
address the location of meetings.

At this point we ran out of time, and the topic of decision making was deferred.

Next Meeting: 2009-01-11 in
Rokkehealden, specifically at Molly Malone's Tavern, 7652 Madison
Street, Forest Park, IL 60130. We will continue making decisions on
Organizational topics: decision making and proxy voting, guilds,
events, and amendments.

It appears that this will be a monthly email sent to the Middle Bridge. If
you're hosting an event and want to verify it will be in the Pale, this is the
place to check.

I can forward each month when I see it come through if people want me to.

In service,
Jale

Subject: [Mid] "Pale" ads for February 2009: AUTOCRATS PLEASE READ

Greetings to all from Azrael ben Shemhazai, editor of “The Pale”!

Please forgive the shouting letters in the headline, but I wanted to get
people's attention, as the system I'm creating doesn't work unless it's
read!

Ensuring that every ad submitted to me gets properly placed in "The Pale"
is of utmost importance. This is why I have the receipt system to confirm
each and every ad that is sent to me.

However, I'm creating a new level of protection to ensure that each ad is
correctly placed -- every month, around the end of the first week, I'll
post the ad list to the Middlebridge. This will be done after all ads have
been placed and laid out, which means that what I'm listing here is
essentially what's ready to go to the printer.

If you’re an autocrat for an event and you have submitted an ad for the
February Pale, please check this list carefully to see that it is correct.
If anything is wrong – particularly if you have sent me an ad and received
a receipt letter, but it’s not in this list — please contact me
IMMEDIATELY, at pale@... or 317-396-9122.

For the February 2009 Pale:

FULL PAGE ADS

As I said, please contact me ASAP if something appears to be off.

YIS,
Azrael ben Shemhazai
