This group is intended to promote inter-regional philosophical dialogue between scholars of philosophy around the world.

Dialogue is essential for developing a better understanding of not only others, but also ourselves. In recent times the teaching of philosophy in almost all regions of the world has included core components with a predominance of Western philosophers. This relates to the predominance of published works in European languages, and to the higher output of postgraduate degrees in philosophy in North America and Europe, in the past two centuries.

In order to strengthen local, regional and global awareness of the rich philosophical traditions of many regions of the world, UNESCO Social and Human Science Sector's program in philosophy launched programmes on inter-regional philosophical dialogues in 2004. There were meetings in Paris, Seoul, Rabat, Seoul, Hiroshima, Bangkok, Port Dickson and Manila.

The UNESCO offices in Bangkok, Paris and Rabat were involved in encouraging this dialogue. The dialogue continues although there is less philosophy in the UNESCO programmes, with the additional support of FISPH, Eubios Ethics Institute, and other parties. The discussions on this listserve do not imply any organization endorses the views, and we expect members to engage in critical and constructive dialogue in a spirit of mutual understanding, without any attacks on persons or groups.

During the process of dialogue using communication technology and face to face meetings the different working groups and other philosophers will come together to comment on the papers and develop dialogue across the themes of each group. Through this list serve, and translation between Arabic and English, we hope to develop dialogue to produce philosophical papers and improve understanding between these regions.
