A discussion forum for members of families of European descent whose yDNA indicates they belong to Haplogroup-Q. Recently those of us of Jewish descent have found that we carry SNP M378 on our Y-Chromosome which puts us into recently defined Haplogroup Q1b. Others whose STR markers match those who have been tested are presumed to also have the M378 marker.

It appears that the only Europeans with SNP M378 may be Jewish.

We discuss how we could have our own SNP and how it comes to be that we share it with the Sindhi and Hazara tribes of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

Generally the participants here belong to the Jewish_Q group hosted by FamilyTreeDNA and belong to a larger Q-DNA study administered by Rebekah Canada at the same site.

You do not need to be Jewish if you share our yDNA or our interests.
