The float number is 99333; carb overhaul kit 291763.
Is the float included in an overhaul kit?
Thanks

it would be nice on the home page description if the year
of manufacture was indicated along with the model 23 as
the defining criteria for antique engines.
I hae a 15 yr old engine and dont know if it is
antique or not ?
Also have many other engines 20 and 30 years old
but dont know their model numbers at this time.
Thanks

I need a carb rebuild kit for my B&S 23C engine, including

downloaded, but I checked with two dealers who cannot
find or cross reference the part numbers. Anyone
know what a good part number or a substitute would be?

I have seen them i have one on a reel lawn mower good little motor
I did revisit Asecc and have concluded that this carb was not used on a Briggs engine. This is good to know. This engine is a small single cylinder Onan with a bolt on cylinder. It does run, but I have to adjust the shut off valve on the fuel tank and close the repaired mixture valve. It has to be leaking fuel internal to the carb somewhere. The original mixture needle was seized and twisted off. I am very lucky this little jewel runs.

Well, I can't find a Clinton around here. WBS here is the pix again.
Doug,
You are right as the bore on this carb is only about 1/2 inch. The generator is 800 Watts so the engine is about 1.6 HP. I am sure that the configuration is original. The mixture needle was seized in the carb; I used a lot of P-oil and patience , but managed to twist the needle off. Disaster, I drilled it out and replaced the needle with one from a Tecumseh which has a 8-32 thread and used a cap off a spark plug with the same thread. I can get the engine to run for an hour or more by controlling the fuel flow from the fuel tank shut off valve and I will charge the battery at 28 Amps. ( this feels like confession time.) So the carb is messed up. I also took the spherical float apart to remove a bit dent in it. That went back together well.
I think the engine was made in a real hurry as there was a negative clearance between the flywheel and the laminations of the magneto and the governor housing.

The carb Ed is looking for is a Zenith that has pipe threads and a 90
degree elbow where it attaches to the engine. The picture was embedded
in Ed's original post. You may have to change an email setting to allow
images. This wasn't a real common carb on anything or maybe it was just
short-lived. I just got rid of a rusted hulk of a Choremaster garden
tractor that had a Clinton with this carb. I'll agree, Carter was the
most common but you do see this style carb once in awhile. I've got a
Simplicity built Wards with a Lauson that uses this carb. It's either a
TLC or RSC model. I think it's only 3/4 HP. That's why I was questioning
if it would be enough carb to run an Onan generator. I've got a couple
single cylinder Onans, one badged as a Fairbanks Morse. I think they are
rated at 2 1/2 HP. The intake tube on those engines are part of the
manifold and they use a bigger updraft Zenith. Maybe somebody modified
Ed's?? Somewhere in the not too distant past I remember seeing some of
these carbs like he is looking for NOS at a swap meet. maybe they will
be at Coolspring this weekend. Doug T

I am restoring a WWII, 1943, Onan generator which has a Zenith Carb. I think I saw the same carb on an old B&S and need to identify because I need a replacement.
Finally getting this 23c apart the armature laminations are
loose and the points are shot. First does anyone know where
I can buy these? Second, will these new solid state
ignitions work on this engine? If it will where can these
be bought?
Thanks
Ron
I would think basically the "off the shelf" Briggs color would have been
black. If they were special ordered through an equipment mfg they could
be any color depending on the mfg. Any other thoughts?? Doug T
