Honestly, I'd use a touch-up pen to color those worn areas. Also, I prefer putting it on bare wood. It can be placed on shellac with reasonable success....

You don't really want to use tung oil on floors. It won't hold up. You want to use a good poly. Yes, no matter what you use, you will need to remove the wax....
