Stain for "Antique" Oak?   Message List

Re: [Antique Restoration] Stain for "Antique" Oak?

That depends on your choice of coulour I guess. I used to use a touch up oil
that OLD ENGLISH used to make but we cant buy it in Canada anymore. They had a
light and a dark. I used to use the dark on oak and then place a finish over top
of that. I found that was an awesome look . Golden Oak will make it look light
in coulour. If that is what you are aiming for then go for it.

Does anyone have a favorite stain for old oak furniture? I am familiar with
Minwax Golden Oak. I was wondering if there was something more desirable and
attractive although I realize that's in the eyes of the beholder. And the color
of the wood you're starting with. Thank you.

Hi, If it was me I wouldn't attempt to stain oak at all. After all it has an excellent colour of its own. However, you refer to a wax finish later in your...
