2nd Lt. Andrew Jacob Torres, USMC, died on April 3, 2004, at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles, California, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 23 years old.

Memorial services were held at the United States Naval Academy Chapel on Thursday, April 8, 2004. Graveside services were held on Friday, April 9, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., at Forest Lawn Glendale, located at 1712 S Glendale Ave, Glendale, CA 91205-3320.

At Andrew's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cancer research.

The Fourth Annual 2nd Lt. Andrew Torres Memorial Golf Classic to Support Cancer Research, will be held at the La Canada Flintridge Country Club in La Canada Flintridge, California, on Monday, June 23, 2008. Over $190,000 from this annual event has been donated to cancer research. All proceeds go to cancer research at the Huntington Medical Research Institutes, Pasadena CA. Torres Research Fund " The fund is directed to the research of Heinz Josef Lenz, M.D. On November 4, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. Andrew's name (along with others) was unveiled at USC Norris Cancer Center's "Tree of Life".
