Amy Carlson was born and raised in Glen Elyn, Illinois. She was a very successful athlete growing up. She graduated CumLaude from Knox College, and while still a student there she was injured. While recovering, her sister conviced her to try out for a play. That led to a role in The Fifth of July. She performed as well as directed while in college.
After college, she returned to Chicago and studied acting, while also playing in her band MSG. Her first professional jobs were guest starring on television shows that were filming in Chicago, including "Missing Persons" and "The Untouchables". She then moved to New York City, to pursue her first regular television role, on daytime drama Another World.
Amy most recently portrayed Alex Taylor, a firefighter/paramedic on Third Watch, and Katie Owen, a undertaker on Peacemakers. And has guest starred on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Law & Order: SVU, Martial Law, and NYPD Blue.
Amy has traveled the world extensively, including living in the Middle East, participating in relief work in Africa, and visiting every state in the US, with the exception of Alaska. She is also active with many charities, including Creative Coalition, the Women's Campaign Fund, and St.Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She currently lives in New York City.
