PR07/11/2009 AD supports UKAM
AD supports the Guild for Maltese Composers, Authors, Singers and Musicians
(UKAM) in its demands for better remuneration of royalty earnings from the
London based Performing Rights Society which is licensed by the Maltese
government to collect and distribute royalties to local songwriters and
composers and is urging the government to back the demands of the Maltese
artists and performers.
Chairperson Michael Briguglio said “It is not fair that PRS had collected an
average of 500,000 Euros a year from Malta while many Maltese musicians are
only receiving a pittance for their work while others are owed vast sums of
money”.
AD also backs UKAM proposal that a proportion of gross income collected from
Malta should remain in Malta and serve as a beneficiary fund for local writers
in need.
“Should no progress be made, on the artists’ demands the government together
with the artists should explore the the possibility of setting up a Maltese
PRS”.
