Roaring Jelly was formed in 1970, by and for (now close to 300) musicians, veteran to novice, to develop their skills by playing Contra and Square Dance music.

Some have stayed many years, other have passed through briefly. As few as a handful or as many as 40 have gathered together at any given time - fiddles, whistles, flutes, trombones, accordions, mandolins, banjos, saxophones, guitars, piano, bass, and percussion - ready to create music together. All have helped shape the sound of this ever-changing, vibrant band known for its spirited, joyful playing at local contra dances.

Our 35th Reunion Dance and 1st CD Release Party was a wonderful reunion and introduction of dozens of former and current Band members and over 100 dancers including Band Leaders: Bill Cronin, Debby Knight, Vince O'Donnell, Doug Reiner and Callers: Susan Elberger, Cindy Green, Tony Saletan, Sarah Gregory Smith, Dan Watt at the Concord Scout House in March 2006. A Music booklet was given to musicians at the Dance and is in the Files section of this website.

Our CD "Roaring Jelly - Dynamite Music Since 1970" is over an hour of music (13 dance sets and waltzes) with a colorful 12 page descriptive booklet created by Music Director Debby Knight, 34 band members and Caller Susan Elberger. Copies are available at our Dances or by mail. Former Band members, update your contact info and receive a $5 discount.
