Afghan Solidarity was founded on June 4, 2001 in the United States with a progressive agenda. Its members are well educated in the culture and history of Afghanistan and are united in their belief that Afghanistan and its people need help. The values of the group reflect those of its individual members: allegiance to their current-adopted home states; allegiance or sympathy to the nation and the people of Afghanistan; a genuine desire for a political settlement to the current unrest; prosperity for its people; a nation of Afghanistan clean from foreign harmful elements; and a channel for the voice of Afghan communities worldwide.
The objectives set forth include:
1. To advocate unity amongst the people of Afghanistan;
2. To promote peace and political stability in Afghanistan;
3. To defend basic human rights of the people of Afghanistan;
4. To disseminate information for a global audience;
5. To assist legitimate non-governmental organizations in relief operations.
Afghan Solidarity is a boundary-less group and is not defined by any specific function or cause. Membership in the group recently surpassed seventy-five individuals. Nearly every member has undergraduate college education, and many hold graduate diplomas. The overwhelming majority of the members are Afghan-Americans, with some Americans. Members mostly reside in the US, although a handful is based overseas, such as in Australia, UK and Pakistan. Afghan Solidarity has a just cause, and an open door policy. Anyone with wisdom and common sense is welcome to join, participate, and contribute for the betterment of the people and the nation of Afghanistan.
