The Shire of Chesapeake was founded in 1996 and was elevated to Duchy status in May of 1999. Its borders cover Maryland, and parts of DC Virginia. We strive to re-create the flavor of a bygone era in our conduct and competitions. The concept of fun carries through in what is done at an event, during a gathering, during a demo and whenever a field trip is sponsored. The Duchy of Chesapeake encourages creativity in the areas of competition and persona development.

Chesapeake is proud of its great artisans, particularly accomplished in leatherwork, woodwork, chain maile, bowyery, garb and cooking. Our archers are spectacular, and our renn fighters are formidable. Our feasts are phenomenal, our hospitality beyond compare, our lands beautiful and green, rich with history, culture and art.

We have representatives from Vikings to Scotsmen to Elizabethan nobility. With the help of our cousins in Cambridge, Burgundy, Somerset, Cashel, and Valencia, we hold joint events where we share knowledge and skills. Our goal is to keep the best traditions of this fascinating period of history alive for ourselves and the future.
