Guinea pigs available for adoption in NW DC   Message List
Reply Message #9678 of 29797 |
Hello everyone,

Our names are Edmund and Leo, and we're 9-month-old guinea pigs. We're
currently living in a foster home in NW DC, but need to find a
permanent home, and we're writing to ask if anyone in Adams Morgan
would like to adopt us.

We're cheerful guys. Our absolute favorite activity is eating. We
love vegetables, fruits, timothy hay, and Oxbow Cavy Cuisine pellets.
We have to eat a lot, because our second favorite activity is jumping
from the floor of our cage onto a cardboard box then jumping down
again, and that uses lots of energy! Edmund was named for Sir Edmund
Hillary, the mountain climber, but now Leo climbs the box even more
than Edmund. When Leo is on top of the box, our foster mom often
glares at him and threatens to switch our names! We don't think that's
funny.

Although we happen to be writing right before both Christmas and
Chanukah, we are NOT suitable to be given to anyone as a holiday
present. Whoever adopts us will have to feed us 2-3 times a day for
6-7 years and clean our cage regularly. Imposing that kind of a burden
on someone is a strange type of "gift", especially given that it will
also take money to care for us. Our food and litter will both cost
money, we may need to be treated by a veterinarian some day, and if our
new family travels they may have to hire a pet sitter. To give you an
idea of how problematic it is for animals to be given as gifts, that's
how we ended up in this predicament in the first place! We were left
with someone who didn't ask for a guinea pig, and she got tired of us
and wanted us gone.

If anyone reading this isn't daunted by regular feedings, and would
take pleasure in watching our antics day after day, please write to us
at dcguineapigs@.... Our feet don't work well on computer
keyboards, but our foster mom will help us reply to you.

Edmund and Leo

P.S. Because we're less than a year old, this is our first time
experiencing either Christmas or Chanukah. Our foster mom explained
that we could celebrate one or the other, but not both because she
doesn't have time for multiple holidays. She said if we chose
Christmas, we'd get a special treat ONE day, but if we chose Chanukah,
we'd get a special treat on each of EIGHT days. It doesn't take a
rocket scientist to figure out which holiday appeals more to guinea
pigs!
