Welcome to Abbott Watch. This forum is devoted to the subject of urban education. This list serve is a venue for the dissmination of information on all subjects that impact urban education, toward the end that educational outcomes for children attending urban schools dramatically improve. Our name, Abbott Watch, derives its significance from the nationally renowned New Jersey Supreme Court cases known as Abbott v. Burke that spanned over 20+ years and from the experience of parents and educational activists who found that fulfillment of the Court’s mandates necessitated a vigilant ‘watch’ of those charged with implementing the mandates. Articles, announcements, comments, discussions and invitations on all topics that touch upon urban education and improving educational outcomes for children who live in urban settings are welcome submissions to Abbott Watch. While this list serve began with a New Jersey orientation, we seek and encourage a geographically diverse membership because sharing our challenges and how they are overcome is most likely to advance and improve educational outcomes for children in urban school districts.
