Description

Welcome to the listserv of the Association for Women Journalists-Chicago.

Like the association itself, this listserv encourages discussion of issues important to women journalists and the accurate and respectful treatment of women by the media. It's for posting news, announcements, invitations, job leads and calls for advice pertaining to the profession. The women journalists, and few men, subscribed are among the most talented and influential journalists working in print, broadcasting, academia and online on the planet. AWJ-Chicago is a nonpartisan, nonprofit org. We offer colleagues a network that we hope offers a little bit of sanity in a crazy industry.

To subscribe, send a message introducing yourself to one of the co-moderators--Keidra Chaney (keidra@gmail.com) or Karen Kring (krkring@yahoo.com)--or click the "join" button. Tip: You'll get a yahoo email address when you join, but you can direct posts to any email address you choose. Consider opting for the "daily digest" if you're concerned about a full inbox.

Protocols:

- Only post in accordance with the listserv's purpose.

- No "flaming". This is a professional forum. Insults,"inappropriate" language are disruptive, counterproductive and will cause the subscriber to be booted from the list.

- Sign your messages. Not all of us may recognize subscribers' e-addresses and no messages should be anonymous.

- Carry on private communications off-list. Pitching stories should be done off-list. No press releases.

- All conversations on this listserv are considered off-the-record. If you wish to quote a post from the AWJ-Chicago listserv in any publication or forum, you MUST receive permission first from the person you intend on quoting.

Dues-paying members of the association enjoy more benefits. To join the Association for Women Journalists, go to www.awj-chicago.org.
