Welcome to the Alternative Home Education Community (AHEC),
which has about 60 member UNschooling families throughout the Dallas/Fort
Worth Metroplex. This IS NOT a homeschool group. Most of the families associated with this group have either older unschooled children or their children are grown. This group has been around a long time and it and is now only active on a few occasions throughout the year.

This list is a "member's only" list.

AHEC is non-religious in it's affiliation: we are just as likely to have
members who are Christian as are Jewish, Pagan, agnostic, Buddhist, Quaker or
atheist. We are a support group that also favors child-led, unstructured
approaches to homeschooling which we call unschooling. While many of us experiment with the "curriculum
in a box" approach at some point, we tend to homeschool by following and
supporting our children's interests. Some homeschoolers call this
"unschooling" and most of us do too, although there are many ways of both
homeschooling and unschooling and we support one another's right to make
educational choices based on the needs, abilities and passions of one's
family.
AHEC has no Board of Directors, no dues, no statements of faith, no business meetings and no rules. We choose to gather, share and learn from each other with utmost respect for each other and our differences.
