Subject: Wire Desk Team Leader, Gannett Design Studio, Nashville
ACESjobs-owner@yahoogroups.com
Send Email Send Email

Gannett's Nashville Design Studio is seeking a talented Wire Desk Team Leader to
direct a team of copy editors who select and supply news, sports, business and
feature wire and syndicate content to daily newspapers across the Southeast.
Candidates should have a passion for news, a strong editing portfolio and
superior leadership skills. Strong news judgment is critical, as this editor
will be selecting stories and photos for a number of different newspapers with
different audiences and needs.
Applicants should have at least 10 years of newspaper experience, preferably on
large Metro dailies. He or she would have worked in multiple areas of the
newsroom including hard news, features, business and sports, and would have
extensive experience as a manager and a strong working knowledge of a daily
newspaper's total operation including production and advertising.
The position will supervise between 12-15 editors staffed almost around the
clock, seven days a week including holidays. The normal workday for different
wire editor shifts begins at mid-morning and generally ends around 12:30 a.m.
The Team Leader will do annual reviews of the wire editing team and help the
Operations Manager maintain content and page flow on time and on deadline, and
will also work closely with Design Team Leaders to ensure everyone works
together as a team to display the best pages and stories.
Nashville is the heart of country music and so much more. Middle Tennessee is
home to professional sports teams, world-class universities, a lively nightlife,
arts and the outdoors.
The Nashville Design Studio is certainly not your traditional newsroom. Rather,
it has a funky, non-newsroom atmosphere that has to be seen to be believed.
Simply put: It's a pretty cool place to work.
What more could you ask for? A fantastic job in a fantastic location.
If you feel you meet these qualifications, please send your resume to
skramer@....

Subject: Editor & Content Strategist, Software Advice, Austin, Texas
ACESjobs-owner@yahoogroups.com
Send Email Send Email

At Software Advice, our growth has created an awesome opportunity at the
intersection of content marketing and journalism.
In our business, it's all about content. Want to rank well in Google? You need
great content. Want to spread virally across the social network? Content. Want
to engage visitors on the website? Content.

We generate all sorts of content: blog posts, tweets, buyer's guides, e-books
and community-generated content. We're generating so much content, we're
struggling to hold it all together. What we're doing is working well, but now we
need to scale. To scale, we need editorial talent to help us research, write and
publish outstanding content.

We're looking for an experienced editor who can manage an editorial calendar,
edit copy for detail, and lead a young team of writers - all wrapped up in a
personality that loves the pace and challenges of a small, growing company.

This is a managerial role, with lots of responsibility and room for growth, if
that's what you seek. You will immediately take on responsibility for a team of
six. It's critical that you have experience managing a team - ideally writers
and journalists - and can teach the art of writing well.

On Monday mornings, you'll manage our editorial meeting, ensuring content is on
schedule, while helping our team conceive of their next great content ideas. A
lot of these ideas are blog posts, but there will also be info-graphics, buyer's
guides and research reports. For the rest of the week, you'll help the team dig
up sources, refine their theses, write beautiful prose, and get it all out the
door in a professional format.

Sound like a tall order? We need someone with the:
creativity to conceive of great content ideas;
skills to write beautifully, and teach that skill to others;
journalism background to share with our young team;
processes discipline to keep the editorial trains running; and,
management talent to lead a young, growing team.

We're thinking our ideal candidate has ten years of experience in journalism and
other editorial functions. Being a good writer is not enough. Management
experience is a must, as we've got a team of writers waiting for your direction.
We will consider other content marketing backgrounds, as long as you possess
excellent research, writing and management experience.

What we do
Software Advice is an innovative demand generation service for software
companies. We match software buyers - whom we meet on the web - with a short
list of software companies that can meet their needs. Software companies pay us
when we make referrals that match their target customer profile. Buyers get free
advice; software companies get highly qualified leads. It all works out quite
nicely.

Who we are
We're a team of thirty crushin' it at Congress & 7th in downtown Austin. Our
culture is our greatest advantage. We like what we do and we like each other. We
get stuff done. We thrive on progress and momentum. Our customers like us. So do
the software buyers we help. We were founded in 2005 and we've been profitable
since 2007. Because we've bootstrapped our business (i.e. no venture capital),
we can put our employees first, rather than cater to investors.

What we offer
We pay very well and we offer great benefits. Our health care insurance will
make you wish you were sick. We got dental. We got 401(k), with matching. You'll
enjoy three weeks of vacation each year and another full month of our unique
"work abroad" program. We do smart stuff, like work on Columbus Day, but make
Christmas Eve a paid holiday. More than anything, we offer opportunity. Our
rapid, organic growth is creating great career opportunities for great people.

Interested? Apply online at www.softwareadvice.com/careers.

Tasted Menu is a website and forthcoming mobile app offering diners an unmatched
way to discover the best restaurant dishes. We accomplish this by combining
dish reviews and photos from our passionate user community ("taste") with our
highly proprietary, company-generated culinary taxonomy and menu database
("menu"). Our start-up aims to become the primary destination for anyone who
finds themselves asking: "What's good to eat here?", "Where can I find the
best?", or "What are people eating right now?".

As a Menu Aggregator at Tasted Menu, you'll be living and breathing restaurant
menus. Specifically, menu aggregation involves thoroughly reviewing, editing,
and adding further layers of intelligence to restaurant menus initially input by
data entrants. It also involves entering detailed restaurant information and
performing regular updates as restaurants change their menus. As our ideal
candidate, you are...

* Obsessively meticulous and thorough. Substantial copyediting and/or
proofreading experience is a must. Style manuals are like scripture to you.
You are invigorated, tenacious, and indefatigable in the face of tasks requiring
acute and sustained attention to detail.

* Passionate about restaurants and, of course, restaurant menus. An hour spent
reading Eater or browsing Art of the Menu is like heaven for you.

Menu Aggregators are contractors of Tasted Menu. Some further details...

* Work is conducted via our sleek and efficient content management system and
can be performed from anywhere in the United States, though being based close to
the company in our home market of Boston is a big positive.

* While hours are flexible, we're seeking individuals prepared to commit at
least 20 and ideally 40 hours per week to this role. The more hours available
to commit, the more compelling the candidate.

* Activity will commence at the start of February. We have an intense pipeline
of work through early March and hope to continue expanding this pipeline as the
year progresses.

* Compensation is calculated per "task" completed. The average Menu Aggregator
will earn hourly compensation of approximately $12.00. However, skilled and
efficient performers will have the ability to earn significantly more.

We're looking for individuals who are energized about being part of a team
building something that will change the way people discover food and share their
dining experiences. To apply, please send a cover letter and résumé to
careers@.... In addition, any samples you can provide of your
copyediting or proofreading work will be helpful.

Note that the Menu Aggregator role is one of two roles comprising the Menu
Curator position at Tasted Menu. The job description for the other role, Menu
Tagger, can be found at ... http://www.tastedmenu.com/careers/mt.pdf. For those
interested, it is possible for a Menu Curator with the right qualifications to
be both a Menu Aggregator and Menu Tagger. Please apply separately to each role

If you know anyone who might be a good fit, please do pass this along to them.
We're also on the lookout for Menu Taggers details at
