Subject: [ABDX] DX stations that I miss getting and other DX rants

 

Just taking a sentimental journey down memory lane. I really miss Greenland on 720 KHz [now dark]. I went to the files section of ABDX Yahoo Groups to have a listen to the clip of 720 KNR Greenland that I had posted a while back when they were still on the air.

I also miss 1134 Croatia, which reportedly is still on air but signs off rather early, so I haven't logged them in a dogs age and a half [or perhaps 2 or 3 blue moons!].

DX reception has been rather blah this DX season here in PEI. I still get some TAs, mostly the UK and Spain, but it takes some heavy duty phsing to get anything more than hets or unintelligible audio. Many the summer in the past I could do as well on TAs.

The war on RFI continues. Unfortunately, ther new breed of bright LED lights crank out quite a bit - fortunately, like high quality CFLs, this noise tapers to mere nothing a few feet away. So, a little common sense placement yields big dividends. Plasma TVs, ion devices like air filters, rogue battery chargers etc. tend to broadcast much farther - plaging te whole neighbourhood.

Radio smog. Slap on a catalytic converter ... oops ... an RFI/EMI filter folks :)
