Welcome to AACBWI!

We are a volunteer listerv that provides encouragement, inspiration, and networking opportunities for writers and illustrators who write for African-American and other children of color.

Submitting conference and seminar information, submitting press releases and announcing newly published children’s books are encouraged.

As an aspiring or active children’s writer or illustrator here are steps to strongly consider taking, if you have not done so already:

Join other writing organizations such as the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators or renew your membership (www.SCBWI.org).

Attend children's writers' conferences like the highly esteemed Highlights Foundation Chautauqua Conference (NY). Scholarships are available (http://www.highlightsfoundation.org/).

Subscribe to these Publisher's Weekly free newsletters: PW Daily and Children's Bookshelf (http://www.publishersweekly.com).

Continuously read a broad range of literature and especially children's literature.

Share your knowledge, experience, questions or comments, critique groups, conferences, and all matters related to children's literature with this group.
