Welcome to a tortoise world - a list where experienced keepers are willing to share their knowledge and expertise. We have experienced reptile vets, herpetologists and a nutritionist on hand for advice when needed. Please do not use this list as a substitute for finding a real herp vet - internet diagnosis is well nigh impossible and unethical. We can advise on emergency care till you can reach a vet and
even help you find one. It is wise to locate an experienced herp vet when you acquire your turtle so you are prepared. We are aware that some countries do not have herp vets, in which case we will endeavour to help as much as we can drawing on qualified veterinary advice, but there is no real substitute for real qualified "hands-on" care. The people on this list are experienced keepers, many medically qualified. They are busy people due to their work, so when asking for advice please follow the guidelines below and advise us of:
Species,
Your country,
Age,
Weight,
Eating/not eating,
Urinating/not urinating,
Defecating/not defecating,
Tested for worms?
Current husbandry and diet,
Supplements used,
Current problem,
A [v] tag in the subject line will alert us to the fact that urgent vet help is required. This information will help us to advise you quickly in an emergency. I hope you find us to be of help when you need it.
We do accept web based addresses when the person is known to us, otherwise you will have to supply the owner with your real details which will be kept confidential and deleted when you leave this group - on this you have my word. We do have to be careful that troublemakers do not sneak onto the list using an alias and web based account! We
understand though that some folk have to use them, so please bear with us? Thanks! Misty Corton, List Caretaker
