This Yahoo web group is a recruitment tool for the 1st Battalion of the 95th (Rifle) Regiment of Foot USA. We are a reenactment group portraying Wellington's famed "Green Jackets", the 1st Battalion. runs this Yahoo Group and is responsable for it's content.
The 1/95 is a group based around the middle east coast area. We have as our "base" Old Bedford Village, in Bedford PA. We attend several events there each year as well as other events (Napoleonic and war of 1812)around the eastern US.
Our group strives for authenticity in living history and Battle re-enactments. The "Green jackets" were a unique unit in the British army of the period (1802-1816). The soldiers were encouraged to think and act on their own initive. The 95th had a large preportion of literate men, many of whom have left accounts of their adventures. This was unusual for British units of that day.
The 95th enphsizes the spirit of the original unit. We also strive to have a good time and enjoy the period atmosphere at events and living history sites. Comradship and having a fun are stressed. We also strive to pay tribute to the original 95th Rifles. The 95th fought in both Europe and in North America. They were an elite unit within the British army. The unit has been popularised because of the many memoirs left by its members as well as by the popular "Sharpes Rifles" books and TV movies.
Past event have included the 1812 Grand Tactical in Maryland(this event moves to a new site each year either in the the us on in Canada. This was an outstanding event with hundreds of participants and a beautiful location along the Chessepeke Bay. We also attended Historicon-a miniture war gaming convention where we participated as part of a display of items (original and movie) associated with "Sharpes Rifles" We also met and got to know Rifleman Harris (Jason Salkey)from the show.
