The intent of this forum is to introduce senior citizens to low cost recreational boatbuilding, sailmaking, and sailing as a means of staying active, pursuing adventure, meeting new friends, and enjoying life. We encourage the interaction of novices and experts and all those between who choose to participate in sharing rough plans, formal designs, building projects, photo essays, sailing trips, and thoughtful advice.
Our purpose is primarily educational, so argument, disparagement, and foul language have no place in this forum. Good humor, on the other hand, is always appreciated.
Because many seniors are on fixed budgets with few extra dollars for recreation and new hobbies, we encourage discussion of small sailboats that can be built and sailed for a total investment of less than $1000. We encourage discussion of detailed budgets with all building projects.
Weight is also a factor with most seniors. Light boats that are easily transported, such as prams, dinghies, small scows, and sharpies, as well as sailing canoes and kayaks, should be featured on this forum.
Recommendations for other related forums and websites are likewise encouraged.
