I have no idea what caused the problem. It is something that leaps out now and
then to snag innocent drawers. Some obscure quirk lurking in the background.
Finding a way to work around it is the best I can do. Perhaps someone else
knows more about it. Hopefully, the next release, when it comes, will have
eliminated the problem. Enjoy!

Initially, I had thought that I inadvertantly changed layers. Not so, and the
problem remained. I have received a solution that worked.

Thanks for helping.

Thank you so much for your help!. The rubber band selection approach worked on
the first try.

Any thoughts as to why this happened so I can avoid repeating my mistake?

Is the object in another layer and you have non active layers locked?

Select the object then look in the ODW to see what layer it is in.

I am using version 8.06.004.1385 and have encountered a problem in deleting
an object. I cannot delete it. I placed a circle in the corner of the layout
plan with the intent of connecting it on one side with straight track and on
the other side with the outside radius of a curved turnout (Fast Tracks
8-3024r. It did not work, so now I am trying to delete the circle and it
won't go away. If I click on the circle to move it, a copy appears to be
made, which moves, and which I can delete, but the original stays behind.

Any thoughts on how this can be fixed?

Try drawing a rubber band box completely around the circle using the Select Tool

enclose the circle which should automatically select. Then press the Delete key

If not, you may need to copy all wanted objects in the drawing into a new file.

Are you using version 8 of 3pi?? Make sure you select the option to make
shortcuts available to all users when you install. Also install it under the
admin account. Randy is working on win7 compatibility issues as we speak.

Hope this is a simple question(!) Just getting started with 3pl. I use an IMac
(Leopard) with parallels and Windows XP. I cannot get the right click option to
work consistently. Example: page 69 of the manual shows using the right click
option to activate (and deactivate) the layer. The second figure on page 69
shows a submenu that I cannot get to appear. Can't get this to work with space
bar as suggested in the front of the manual. The space bar seems to work
elsewhere (like in laying track). Any suggestions? Thanks!

two problems:

I was having trouble within the library bar not being able to use a selected

I switched the presentation within the library bar from file explorer type to

Open the source library file and make sure the file is set to the units/scale
that you want to use. Save it as your own filename and play with that file

Hi folks,

Ive been using 3rdPlanIt for about 6 months for layout design and am at the
point where I'd like to check out the trackplan by running trains over it.

I model in Sn3 so have had to create the appropriate rolling stock. This isn't a
big deal except that when I save a design to the library and subsequently place
it on the trackplan the rolling stock gets scaled upward. For example, a boxcar
design with a width of 1 11/32", when copied from the library onto the
trackplan, becomes 1 13/16" wide. Interestingly, the ratio of widths, (1 13/16")
/ (1 11/32) = 1.349, is about the same as the ratio between S scale and HO (87 /
64 = 1.359) so I'm wondering if there's some scaling parameter that I've
inadvertently set.

Under Files, Settings, Units the Model Scale is set as 1:64 for S scale and the
Rescale Copied Objects box is not checked. However, checking that box doesn't
fix the problem I'm having.

The problem seems to be in transfering rolling stock to/from the library because
if I design a piece of rolling stock on the layout, copy that piece several
times, leave them scattered about the layout drawing, and then move them onto
the track as needed, or if I close and reopen the drawing file, no scaling takes
place and things work as anticipated.

Any ideas on what I'm doing incorrectly?

Thanks!

I have two laptops I have tried this on, one is a Dell M4400 running Vista
Ultimate 64 bit on a Quad Core CPU the other is a Dell Inspiron running 32 bit
Vista Home edition on an AMD 64 Turion CPU. Both are using the built in NVidia
video. All my drivers and software is up to date.

I discovered the work around when I was making sure I had placed the terrain on
the correct layer. I hid the terrain layer and noted that the terrain mesh
disappeared and only the track (main) layer was displayed. When I re-displayed
the terrain layer it started rendering both correctly.

Don't know if this means anything but I notice a lot of flicker as I move the
mouse of the combined terrain and track layers as the display is re-drawn. I am
not dragging anything just moving the mouse.

Enable layers (Ctrl D) use the up or down arrows on the top left of the window

I did and that did not seem to have any effect. I tried it again and found that
if I hide the terrain layer and then display it again then it works.

I don't think software could generate benchwork because there are too
many variables. 3pi could have some labor saving additions with
regard to benchwork, but it is pretty good. It will cut risers to the
proper length, which was actually the hardest step when I first drew
benchwork.

What is more interesting to me is the fact that you can use the
techniques for making benchwork to make any kind of model. You can
use 3pi to make templates for scratch building rolling stock and
structures. I think it is a lot like building a model to draw one in
3pi.

Be sure your track layer is positioned above the mesh layer in the stack. Enable
