Description

Welcome ! We are a living History Group, family oriented, dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the Third New Jersey Battalion{ Regiment } 1776-1783. The organization is open to both men and women but the military unit accepts men only. We operate in the New Jersey area and are available for presentations at historical sites,as color guards, school programs and for civic organizations. We strive for historical accuracy in our impressions. We also work in support of the The 3rd NJ Regiment B.A.R.

The primary impression of the unit is that of the 1776 campaign using the regimental coat of the "first" establishment, tan / drab with blue facings.

On Oct. 9, 1775 Continental Congress authorized the establishment of two Battalions of 68 privates to serve for 1 year at the "expense" of the Continent..hense the name The "Continental Army".

The "first" establishment of the 3rd NJ took place on January 10th 1776. NJ troops were stationed at Staten Island, Perth Amboy, New York & the Canadian Expedition. They fought at Johnstown, German Flats, Ft. Dayton, Ft.Schuyler, Ft.Ticonderoga, Mt. Independence & various indian uprisings. The 1st establishment was discharged at Morristown on March 23, 1777.

The "Second" establishment was authorized on Sept. 16,1776 and overlapped the first recruitment and served until 1780. The unit fought at Elizabethtown, Bound Brook, Rahway, Springfield, Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Trenton, & Valley Forge.

The "third" and last establishment was authorized on Sept. 26, 1781 and served at the siege of York Town where they were discharged from service on Nov.3, 1783 at the close of hostilities.

We currently average about 10 Living History events a year within NJ.
Liability insurance is required and can be obtained through the organization.
