The 316th Bombardment Wing was a unit formed so late durring WW II most of the crews never saw action. But a handful were under Detached Service and were sent out ahead of their Squadrons to Saipan Guam and Tinian. These crews did fly combat. The 316th was made up of the following Groups.
Eighth Air Force
333rd BG Great Bend
346th BG Pratt
382nd BG Salina
383rd BG Walker
22nd BG Joined the 316th on Okinawa
And the 1st photo recon squadron Salina
This wing was going to be used in the mainland invasion of Japan. But the war ended before they saw action. Their base was Kadena Field on Okinawa.
